i'm not a altec lansing fan.. i bought these speakers last time because i thought they were bang for the buck and had bass tongue.gif (time when i wasn't so into sound quality yet)

so basically with C3 , i will get:
- Mids quality upgrade
- Bass becomes less bassy/boomy/muddy, but upgrade on bass clarity.

If that is correct, it's exactly what i want !
*
i'd still recommend you to test things out first.

majority got disappointed with the shift from vs4121 to c3 sweat.gif

I'm currently using Altec Lansing vs4121 speakers.

Is it considered an upgrade, and will there be any significant difference if I upgrade to the Edifier C3 ?

I'm not looking for boomy bass. And I read that the C3 is not the boom boom bass type.  smile.gif
Add On : Soundcard I'm using now is the Asus Xonar U1 audio station.

just audition/straight go with the S530D

honestly 4121 is the worst speaker i ever heard in my life. over power bass, especially in 80 to 100hz range to make a WOW rattle effect to user, worst in terms of quality. The worst part was the down firing mid driver, i can't brain how the altec designer can design such directional driver using such orientation (i believe they are deaf anyway), just think yourself speak to the table rather than direct to the audient when u talk, 0 detail and clarity, the only speaker than i can't manage to improve even by EQ. Please bear in mind anything higher than 80hz(bass) will start to become directional, so reflect mid range through surface is a no brainer design.

For me change to any Edifier speaker is consider 'upgrade' in terms of sound quality, if u want those no brainer bass in vs4121, i afraid not much speaker in edifier line up can beat it. Don't get me wrong as i'm not altec lansing basher, in fact i'm AL user too.

The R2730DB review can be found at https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3493206 (Successor model of R2700).
The other guy who used Edifier R2700 is lex, you can ask him for his review ~ not sure when he will upload one since it has been few years hmm.gif

How about the C2x? how does that compare to the C3 and the C3x?
*
Didn't like the bass sound of the C2X (6.5" subwoofer), not that solid, bouncy and punchy compared to the C3 (8" subwoofer).
The bass sound is very subtle, so if you have small budget + does not mind that issue, go for C2X, else go for C3 (recommended).
C3X is the successor of C3, has more features (e.g. play music via USB, has headphone output, satellite speaker box made of MDF wood instead of plastic), uses DSP (Digital) but at an additional cost of RM169 which is not that worth for budget consumers. Personally, I don't find them used often so its not worth getting it.

Treble on all 3 speakers are good.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think i will get the C3... however, i went to lowyat and digital mall and most places do not sell the C3 anymore, the only place I found it in stock is All IT. And they sell it for about RM430 which is rather pricey for an old model. However, I do agree, i had a listen to it earlier and the C3 sounds much better than the C2x to me, especially the Bass. The C2x subwoofer has a rather muddy bass which I really do not like. C3 sounded more articulate and cleaner.

I got my C3 at all IT . You should have just got it on the spot just now when you were at all IT. For your time + parking headache, that RM30 difference is negligible. Before that, I was considering buying online for like RM400. But if any warranty issues, I would need to bring to KL. All the hassle to save RM30 wasn't worth it. sweat.gif So, grab it before current batch's stock run out!

Guys,
I've just got my Studio 8 yesterday. I'm hearing white noise/static noise (not too loud but it is there, didn't notice it during testing after purchase) even when nothing is connected (just turning the speakers on without any input wire attached). What could be the culprit of this? Is the speakers faulty? I've tried placing the speakers away from any electronic devices, problem still persist. icon_question.gif

During purchase most probably the area is noisy so you can't notice the noises produce from the speaker.

Did the noise still there when the speaker volume is at the lowest? And does it reduce when you connect to audio source?

Looks like the amplifier amplifying the noises because of the volume was turned too high on idle.

Try use different power socket, if still persist, go for warranty. Btw, can I know where you bought your Studio 8? I'm planning to get R2730db soon, just wished to know tongue.gif .

I have not heard noise/static noise during my audition with the Edifier Studio speakers in Lowyat.
Try changing to different modes (Coaxial, Line 1, Line 2, Optical) and see if the issue persist in all of them.
Try setting the treble and bass at 0dB and volume at 25 (which is 50%) and try again.
Try placing it in a different room and turn it on there. Maybe one area has too much static energy?
If error still persist, can give Edifier a call to make arrangement on sending the speaker for warranty at their HQ Sunway Damansara.

Yes. The noise is there even at the absolute zero volume. It does not reduce nor increase when connected to audio source. cry.gif

Tried moving it around. Tried different power socket, still same. Bought mine at Lowyat, Sri Computer. icon_rolleyes.gif

I didn't notice it initially too. Now at home, it sits on my table, closer to ears, can hear it clearly in total silence. With fans turned on, need to concentrate. Haha.
Tried going all the way down with treble, bass n volume but still the same. Tried around the house. Not increasing/decreasing. hmm.gif

I see, does Sri Computer has 1 to 1 exchange policy? How long is the Edifier's warranty btw? hmm.gif
