If really the rain is causing the problem, I doubt it is modem or router, even unifi ones. More likely the incoming cable or junction boxes have been compromised, faulty seals, exposure to rain n moisture caused shorting.

The old white modem that they supply is very low quality. I have asked their technicians few time and they admitted it. I requested them to change to the new silver color modem and see improvement.

I'm not complaining Internet slow down during rain. When it rains especially the heavy rain, it affects speed. Seems like it is unavoidable.

But for the problem encountered by Maxee is different, he said after rain, his Internet will down until next day. Which is why I think the modem has to do with it. To my experience with the Technicians, they will never check the outdoor cable or electrical enclosure boxes if they come and check.

really, i don't believe what u wrote is correct.

becos for 3 yrs, i used the old white modem and old router. not the best or strongest wifi but they r decent, served their purpose. rain? thunderstorm or dry like hell, no difference for 3 yrs.

the modem died after 3 yrs, changed to new one. i also changed to a new router myself. it gets better, not worse, that is true.

but, i really don't think the weather has anything to do with unifi modem or router per se. gotta be the external cables or junction boxes. or area specific or simply x in y cases, i.e. bad statistics result.

check a bit more, u know how those guys work... trace and physically give the ext line a check, been cases of rats biting n tearing up the cable... compare notes with yr neighbors, don't look just at the weather or the 2 boxes, u might find the answer.

if u can, change 1 or both boxes n see if u find improvement - that will get u closer to the answer.

I've been doing Internet marketing and selling for 9 years. Whenever I have problem, I'll call the TM customer service and they will send the technicians. The technicians will check and let know what should be fixed. The thing that I write is based on my experience. You sound like you are better than the technicians.

Every day, I browse over 300 webpages. So I have faced some Internet issues. If you want me to post a screenshot, I can post a screenshot of my browser history for today (Firefox and Chrome).

You are arguing that the raining internet slow down issue is due to outdoor cable or the electric enclosure boxes. If the cable has problem or the boxes had problem, you would have more likely experience slow browsing in normal time often, not just raining.

You didn't really know the electrical boxes did you? These boxes are weather proof which means water and wind can't go in. Usually problem doesn't come from there.

You should really ask somebody who is expert in the field first before you claim that heavy rain or thunderstorm have no effect on Internet speed. I have experienced it many times.

You know these raining affecting Internet speed issue, it is not just happening in Malaysia, in other countries like UK US also had.

ok, u r the expert, good luck. wink.gif

My condo here actually have a choice of TM UniFi as well as Maxis Fiber & P1 Fiber (both using TM's infrastructure as in most other places) and also TIME Fiber.

Despite having 4 choices since 2012, I took up the RM169 for VIP10 offer more than 1 year ago... still prefer to stick with TM - in my case, having HyppTV is good enough for me.
*
u got the best deal in the country. thumbup.gif

shud belanja yr agent or the one u spoke to on unifi hotline.

others pay rm199 or rm179 w/o hypptv.

dunno how n why they discriminate like that...

It was actually a RM30 discount offer: VIP5 to VIP10 for RM169, or VIP10 to VIP20 for RM229.

From what I know, this offer was available only for a while last year, provided TM calls you to offer the upgrade. If you call TM to do upgrade, you will only get RM20 discount, which is what you and many others got now regardless who made the call.

that's why i said u r the luckiest. others have to shout and yell still dun get same like you!

i guess it is legal alto not ethical.

Somehow my Router's wireless 'light signal' remain shut after i switch on both modem + router many times. Any idea what happened? Plus i couldnt connect to the internet (LAN) even when the all the remaining 'light signals' remain switched on (yellow)

think u shud call unifi, get to the tech line, ask the guy to troubleshoot online with u.

my experience with the orig unifi modem n router:

.. restarting modem n router is something i used do everytime the speed drops significantly - modem first, then router. it works usually. if it doesn't, i call unifi to refresh, 1 minute late, i repeat restarting process. works every time.
.. if no light at all on either device, it has failed; modem, unifi will replace foc. router, u buy yrself
.. wifi light only comes on if there is a device active on wifi.
.. is yr hypptv box still there? plug it in, see if it works. if it does, it means the modem n router r fine, at least for that.
.. when u get to it, get a better router. yr dlink router works ok but is not good for wifi strength and range. better router, more stable, less headaches, less chance of need to restart, stronger/wider wifi coverage.
.. keep modem n router on 24/7 - bad idea to switch on/off everytime u sleep or go out...

try not to waste yr paid unifi hours - call them and get help when ready!

yep, think so.

these popups are hiding in the browser addons/extensions.

need spybot, anti malware n the like to get rid of them.

Wow RT-AC68U is around RM 820...how is the router?
*
i know only a little about routers, torrents.
but been with unifi vip10 3 yrs.
recently changed to asus rtn12hp, rm199, my torrent gets to max 1.2mBps.
max 7 devices used, usually 3.
torrent problem? not that I noticed in a long time.
i din change anything on router or torrent, all default settings.

unifi router is ok but a better router does work better all round... ethernet or wifi.... stability, speed, strength, coverage.

Well, if you are on a budget, yeah, the Asus RT-N12HP (take note on the "HP" *) is good enough.
*
i actually wanted to buy the 14uhp but was out of stock in the shop.
after talking to 2 guys in the store, i decided the 12hp was good enough.
it was, worked better than i expected, served all my purposes.
so, i saved money by accident. biggrin.gif

anyway, the 12hp with twin tall antennae is less cumbersome n ugly than 14uhp with 3 tall ones!

yep, all is good.

actually, unifi is very smooth since today, think those bad undersea cables hv been repaired/replaced.

even china sites back to normal, except those that have been shutdown - a diff issue.

we read posts by many unifi users of poor speed, almost everyday.

aprt from genuine problems with unifi, i think the more common reason(s) may be:

.. performance in houses tend to be more stable than highrise, likely wifi crowding
.. if many devices in use, some of them will sure feel the impact
.. failing modem, weak router
.. torrenting - bad/insufficient seeds

when a user complains of slow speed, the user usually does not tell the full picture...?

as a unifi user for 3+ years in a 2 storey house, i am happy enough. there r times when torrenting speed is poor but i know it's due to poor seeds. there was a time things got weird - that was because of a failing modem which was then replaced quite quickly. lastly, when i changed to a new router, performance improved tremendously, noticeably max torenting speed went from 1.0MBps to 1.2MBps. wifi reception improved too with all corners now covered.

alto a bit more expensive than alternative, i will not change isp.

Highrise UniFi user here.

True enough! WiFi is definitely a problem in highrise. Even using Asus RT-N12HP (with 9dBi antennas) while it improves in terms of range (wider coverage), the speed drops when I move more than 5m away from the access point.

I just have too many neighbors with wireless access points creating so much interference problem. Solved it by using HomePlug for desktop and notebook. Stable & works well! Only using wireless for mobile devices such as smartphones.
*
that is good info.

in contrast, with the same asus router in my house, i'll say wifi strength and speed drops max 10% at 15m away.

within 10m, it is almost same as ethernet.

Anyone experiencing no imternet and the phone gives some weird tone? This is my secons time getting this. First time it happened i lodge a report and after 3 days came back on. Whats happening? Do i have to do this everhtime the internet is down? Ugh....
*
if yr phone acts weird, it means something is not right about the modem becos that's where it is connected, not the router. obviously if modem has a problem, the router and the rest will not behave normal.

after 3 yrs with the orig modem, i experienced phone intermittent shutoff, can dial out but can't pick up calls, strange sounds. finally, the modem died, no light at all. called unifi, changed modem all is good. unifi man said the modem lasted too long, unusual, shud hv died sooner - meaning unifi give the cheapest and lowest grade equipment, maximise profit since almost monopoly... consistent with all biz we see around us...

so, if yr modem is >2 yrs, possible it is showing signs of death.

QUOTE(cloud-sama @ Oct 25 2014, 04:17 PM)
Oh my, I was just interested in subscribing unifi but after seeing last few comments make me want to stick with my umobile
*
everyday, there r a few unifi users posting bad connection, slow speed, etc. frankly, i hv no idea if they r 5 out of 1000 or 10 out of 100,000 or 80 out of 1 million.

like i mentioned before, most complaints do not mention anything about the the usual suspects - highrise or houses, if plenty of wifi users in own home or neighbors, copper or fiber, shitty unifi router or own purchased router, etc.

if it helps, this is what i get in my house almost all the time after changing to new router. it was not as good before i change router a few months back. no more reset, no more calling unifi to reset, etc. fresh, this is wat i get vip10 from pc wifi 45ft from router, with one androidtv box wifi streaming a movie on upper floor, 50 ft away.
user posted image

in summary, my conclusion after some time reading this thread... unifi works best in houses on fiber with a new router (e.g. asus rt n12hp).

highrise, copper cables, lots of wifi neighbors, orig crap router = big problem.
which means if u fall into this category, should demand discounted price or free hypptv packages! laugh.gif

For the past few weeks, I've had to reboot the router (Asus RT-N12HP) every 3 days to get back internet connectivity.  In fact almost exactly every 72 hours.  Is this to do with the router or is it Telekom's doing?
*
i hv same router, so it shudn't be the router.

i suggest u monitor the modem closely. if u find the phone (directly connected to modem) showing problems like can't take calls and intermittent disconnect, u know the modem is going to die.

the thing is unless it dies, unifi won't replace, so u just need to wait for it to die....

I don't have time to dance around with those tech support doh.gif

where is yr location?

vip10, shah alam, almost same all the time, everyday, wifi 45 ft, after change of router:

with torrenting 600-700mbps speed:

as i read more of user complaints, i think... if one is in a house, changed router and still get shitty speeds despite complaints and reports to them, better dump unifi and look for alternative(s), but surely not the infamous x something co. that gets endless moaning and groaning everyday in lyn, i suppose... tongue.gif

if u hv not been reading in this section, pls take note to buy a router that is labeled "unifi ready". don't buy one that isn't compatible!

also, when u install new router, u need to call unifi to get the router password which is not the same as wifi password.

not difficult to change router, just read this section a bit, lots of experience by many users...
