I don't expect it to be higher than the GTX 780 so no harm in waiting. And definitely prices for 700 series will go down, then you can decide then which GC fits your needs vs wallet best.
*
Hard to say, but traditionally Nvidia's GTX *80 series had always been slightly faster and more expensive than its predecessor. And lately, the 780's price has been coming down a little, it may stay as such until 800 series is released.

Hi guys,

Finalizing my build thanks to advise from here smile.gif So far specs are :

Proc - i5-4460
Mobo - Asrock H97M Pro 4
HDD - 2 TB WD Black
PSU - Seasonic S12II 620
Casing - Bitfenix Prodigy M
RAM - 16GB Value RAM (8 x 2)
GPU - Pending

Will the RAM sticks be able to fit ? And does anyone have recommendation on a wifi card which will be able to get into that casing ?

GPU pending as I'm waiting for the nVidia 800 series and can live with integrated graphics for a few weeks
*
Grab a modular PSU with flat cables (such as the Seasonic G-550), as it can help you tremendously when it comes to cable management. icon_idea.gif
Also, why with the 16GB RAM? If you are gaming, just stick to 8GB as more RAM doesn't mean better gaming performance. You don't need WD Blacks as well, just stick to Green and allocate the rest of your budget to a SSD. icon_idea.gif

2TB WD Black overpriced. Better spent more and get a WD Blue + 128GB SSD.

16GB of RAM is too overkill, unless you are doing some heavy design/rendering jobs.

Thanks, any more examples of flat cable PSUs ? Or is the Seasonic G-550 already top class ? Also would this be enough for a nVidia 780GTX in my config ?

RAM amount because some of the programs I use are resource hogs tongue.gif

Going straight for the Blacks because can't be bothered to move my Steam / Origin library around. 40GB to OS would leave me with 80GB , which is already less than the size of my downloaded library. (Or even Titanfall + BF4)

Hi sifus,

How much "real" difference will I be able to see with a Zotac GTX780 Ti Amp! with a "standard" GTX780 card? I'm seeing some replies here saying the standard GTX780 going as low as RM1670 which is so much cheaper than the Ti Amp! version which is around RM2300 (savings can go to a better processor). From xbitlabs it seems to be about ~5FPS difference on the few games they tested.

I'm not sure if the Ti Amp will fare better with newer "next gen" games or the performance increase is negligible. Maybe you can advice to spare me any potential regrets with skimping on the card now hmm.gif

user posted image

Also @Zgames I've modified your recommended build slightly based on Logical Increments Guide for a "balanced" build (others who are looking to build a PC, check this out too, the site is really helpful)

Proc - i5-4460 i5-4690 or i7-4790
Mobo - ASrock H97 Pro4 ASrock H97m Pro4 (I want to fit this inside a Micro ATX)
RAM - 8GB Value RAM
PSU - Seasonic S12II 620w
GPU - Zotac GTX 780 Ti AMP! or "standard" GTX 780
HDD & SSD - recycle
Casing - maybe bitfenix or fractal design 1000

To recap, I want a gaming rig (only) that will allow me to max out graphics and as future-proof as possible within a RM4k budget +-

Any critique / comment to help me fine tune and finalize my build is very much appreciated! biggrin.gif

That's a great site but remember that the price is really-really different that ours. Some are cheaper some are expensive than the other. Just change the i7 to the Xeon, and we're good to go. But need some update on the Bios I think hmm.gif

Thanks for the quick response. Do you have any input on the graphics card? I'm not sure if the extra RM700+ is worth it or not. How would you build your RM4k rig based on my tldr post above?

780TI is a different cards from 780.

Nope, cheapest i5 should do what the pricier i5 can do in gaming too, no much different. If want go pricier, might as well look at Xeon, near i7 performance at near i5 price (RM780++).

780 Ti is the clear winner, benchmark scores sometimes is really on par with each other, I'd rather go with real time performance on graphic hungry games such as Crysis 3 or so. And also that's an EVGA Super Clocked 780. Which is basically and overclock of an overclock 780. I don't remember how much it cost though, it might be cheap but even if you buy it overseas later will have trouble with it's warranty claiming.

make it simple for u
U need a cpu powerful enough to show the capability of the gpu.
and a i/o that can also feed the gpu.

hence its a balance. if not u will be one sided in certain games and find ure system sluggish in the other.
Ram speeds/platform haswell/ivy-e etc../GPu nvidia/ati tends to have pros and cons.

Afaik amds are more cpu dependent that nvidia in most games.

hence always start with what resolution u want to game at.

Thanks for all your inputs. Upon further reading, I agree that the i5-4460 is a good pair for the GTX 780 Ti card.

There is no clear winner between Xeon and non-Xeon so I will just go with the cheaper option, since the Hyperthreading function offered by Xeon is not (yet) utilized very much in gaming. Plus, I think Xeon doesn't come with a cooler hmm.gif

Therefore, after all the fuss, the end rig is... exactly the same as initially suggested doh.gif at least I gain some side info from all the reading...

CPU - Intel i5-4460 RM 569
Mobo - ASrock H97m Pro4 RM 349
RAM - Corsair 8GB Value RAM RM 244
PSU - Seasonic S12II 620w RM 299
GPU - Zotac GTX 780 Ti AMP! RM 2,300
Soundcard - Creative Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 - recycle
HDD - recycle (old WD Green or something)
SSD - Crucial M4 128gb - recycle
Monitor - Samsung 226BW 22" - recycle

Casing - undecided

Total: RM 3761 + RM250+- for casing ~ RM4k

Just some fun facts, my upgrade cycle seems to be around 3-4 years, hoping to push 5+ years with this rig (games are looking better and better even on low settings nowadays)
