Since Microsoft has ended support for XP, wanted to get a new rig for my parents. Need some suggestions.
Budget: ~RM1000 Purposed: Light surfing, occasional scanning/word processing/printing Hardwares that will be re-use: Maybe two HDD but planning to get a new one for fresh install (SSD?) Monitor resolution: Forgot, but got cheap LCD monitor Games & softwares that use frequently: Google chrome, MS Word Personal preferences: Don't need GC can right ? Need optical drive. Location: Can go to Lowyat
How about installing a Linux distro on the old machine?
...and severely limits expansion... not to mention the Prodigy is a huge mini-ITX case to start with. Even some microATX cases are smaller than this...
im not sure if i choose i3 instead of i5 will it affect my gaming experience in terms of graphic, lag, etc? put more budget on graphic card
ill buy monitor seperately
Remember, it's all about balance... no point going with powerful GPU when the CPU starts to bottleneck.... Note that modern games can utilize 4 physical cores, or even more.
BTW, the Prodigy is not a small case to begin with.
thats the smallest case from bitfenix rite>? any other case u can recommend me then, preferably from them
Yes, though I'm not a fan of Bitfenix cases... it looks like their case are poorly built, even though they look good... I'd recommend Silverstone cases instead, even though they don't have the best styling, but they are very well engineered.

[Purpose] Video game Listen to music - Should I get external DAC or sound card? Movies
[Hardwares that will be re-use] -
[Monitor resolution] Want to get monitor with 27" 2560x1600. But if it's not suitable for gaming then can go for 23"/24" 1920x1200. Prefer 16:10 ratio.
[Games & softwares that use frequently] High graphics video games, crysis.. etc, etc..
[Personal preferences] Want to get a PC to play high graphics video games, preferably minimum 80% close to highest settings. No low fps or lag. System is quiet when not gaming. And not too loud when gaming, if possible. No need ODD, as it's seldom used and I think Windows 8 can be installed through USB. Please suggest keyboard and mouse too. Can suggest speakers too. But it's not included in the budget, as they can be expensive.

Who assembles PC, any suggestions? How much does the service cost? Should I buy the parts and get the PC assembled in the same shop? Or buy the parts myself first then send to a shop to assemble?
Please advise. Thanks.
Unfortunately, 1600p displays would be only available on 30 inch displays, which is not cheap to begin with (FYI 30 inch 1600p displays cost more than half of your budget... )
Not to mention 1600p is incredibly hard to push even with very high end GPUs...
Still, I'd go with 1200p, but the price range is too close to a Korean 1440p display...
Anyway,
Xeon E3 1230v3-RM789 ASRock H97 Pro4-RM329 Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB-RM249 WD Caviar Blue 1TB-RM189 PowerColor R9 290 PCS+-RM1650 Seasonic M12II 620W-RM359 NZXT H440 (Black with Red Color)- RM399 LiteOn DVD Writer-RM55 Samsung 840 EVO 120GB-RM320 X-Star DP2710 Matte-RM963 (Get from this link: http://www.ebay.com.my/itm/Matte-X-STAR-DP...d1e678e&_uhb=1) Keyboard and mouse of your choice-RM60
Maxwell-based GTX860M with Haswell i7... ...and no bloatware that is bundled with this laptop.
No SSD though, but you can always add your own in the form of a mSATA drive.
2.5K would be too tight for anything good for games unless you drop the SSD. 3.5K budget is too close to a custom built laptop (like the Illegear I have mentioned)..

Would appreciate some suggestions on a new and compact gaming rig. Contemplating to go small this time, probably getting the Silverstone FT03 Mini or one of those Bitfenix ITX (Prodigy/Phenom) cases.
[Budget] RM3500 - RM4000
[Purpose] Gaming
[Hardwares that will be re-use] Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse
[Monitor resolution] 1920 x 1080
[Location] Subang, KL, Klang Valley
Thanks a lot in advanced.
Don't want a Node 304?
If you are going compact the Bitfenix Prodigy is out of the question as it is almost as large as some microATX cases...
Hey, if I were to get AMD fx-8320 with mobo (4+1) phase count vrm, it will still not work properly? I don't, won't overclock. Just wonder if for example I run it at stock 3.5 ghz, it will still throttle the CPU? If I want it to run at full capabilities at the stock frequency 3.5ghz, isn't mobo with 4+1 vrms is enough?
Also, what about fx-6300, does it require higher phase count as well? Since it is 6-core.
Guide me, lack of knowledge in pc stuff. lol
Minecrafter For the bold part... not really. A 4+1 power phase setup is simply insufficient for the 8 core FX CPU, as it doesn't have the ability to provide enough power to the CPU without throttling. An 8+2 power phase setup would be much better for that.
The FX-8320/8350 chips are known to exceed their rated 125W TDP, as outlined by lex here:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
In the past AMD's TDP used to denote the maximum power/wattage of the processor, in other words power consumption. At those times, AMD had the lead in lower power consumption numbers for their processors. Thus AMD's TDP equals power consumption, in those era and many today still assume it was. Also at those times AMD's TDP is not the same Intel's TDP.
Nowadays AMD's TDP rating is more like Intel's TDP and even worse (because AMD deceptively marketed as such). Nowadays Intel's TDP figures are very close to the actual numbers seen in the reviews. Intel's TDP were more conservative, actual wattage can be much lower than the TDP specifications (in contrast AMD's actual wattage can be much higher than its TDP specifications).
Those numbers in my earlier reply does not include the idle power of the processor itself. Those are system power and subtracting the idle system power (which includes the power consumption of other hardware connected to the processor such as the motherboard), we get the difference on load only. To get actual total wattage of the processor, have to add back the actual idle power of the processor. Fortunately one review measured the CPU power at the 4/8-pin ATX CPU connector: techPowerUp - AMD FX-8350 - "Piledriver" for AMD Socket AM3+ - Power Consumption . Total power on load is 136W for processor only, which is way more than 125W.
Now do you see the problem? Why there were an uproar about failed MOSFETs on low budget AMD motherboards (usually with 4-phase VRM) supposedly able to handle 125W processors? Only those higher end (more expensive) motherboards with at least 8-phase VRM will be able to handle the new FX processors.
Now, about the FX-6300 part... You can pair that CPU to most budget boards... just beware with some very cheap boards with an even weaker 3 phase power VRM (not designed for FX chips). Try to avoid MSI AMD boards as they are notorious for having very poorly designed VRMs. Remember to do some research before buying...
Note that more cores =! better gaming performance. It's all about single-threaded performance, and this is where the i5 shines.
Not to mention the FX-8320/8350 requires a motherboard with very robust VRMs, which means only high-end boards would be able to support the CPU without throttling the CPU or blowing up the VRMs.
Eventually the cost involved is going to be higher than some Intel equivalents.
This is what happens if you try to pair a cheap board with a high-end AMD CPU:
Phenom II X6 1090T at 4.0GHz+MSI 890FX motherboard.
In extreme cases your machine could end up like this:
Gigabyte X79-UD3 caught on fire, causing Gigabyte to issue a new BIOS and a product recall on their X79 boards.

[Purpose] Spend most of the time gaming, movie/drama, surfing
[Hardwares that will be re-use] KB , mouse, speaker
[Monitor resolution] Best for d2?
[Games & softwares that use frequently] dota2 / csgo
[Location] JB
I will need a monitor as well. Preferable to be 22" P.S: kindly post 2 suggestions for SSD and HDD build as per budget.. Still thinking to go for SSD or HDD
FYI your 2K budget is not going to be suffice for a SSD setup unless you are willing to forgo the monitor, or going with a HDD only setup.
Anyway... this is what I'd get:
i3 4150-RM369 ASUS H81M-K-RM199 Kingston 1x4GB Value RAM-RM130 WD Blue 1TB-RM189 Palit GTX750 StormX-RM420 (GBros @ Garage Sales) FSP Hexa+ 500W-RM155 (lingloong @ Garage Sales) CM K280 Case-RM128 Dell S2240L 22 inch IPS monitor-RM519
Okay. What if we exclude the monitor..? Kindly advise in both builds and which is more recommen
If you are playing D2 exclusively... just swap the monitor and grab the Intel 530 120GB for RM289. Then use the remaining cash to upgrade the CPU to an i5 4460.
