seryoung,

You got your SG from breeder? which means do not have license?

I do not think have such thing as license for SGs.

i remember somewhere, 1 of the threads regarding licensing, dunno did it mention whether is it legal to have SGs without license or not. i thought i saw a licence mentioned in Pets Wonderland 1U..i'll find out more about this.

You only need license for SG if you're starting a breeding project. For pet, I don't think you need. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Some legit importers have license. I'm not sure about breeder of local species though.

As I know only reptiles need license. So far nothing says mammals and marsupials need license.

And I definitely do not think breeders here have license. Only license for their business if they are running one.

Hey ppl, just dropping my 2cents. 1st of, this forum is open to everyone. 2nd, i think its better to constructively criticise rather than openly flame someone.

referring to the current situation, i think sangetrap and jonyeap might've been way to harsh, but they have some truths. to rear ANY pet, not only SGs and hedgies, would mean thorough research, in-depth detail concerning the pets diet, housing, caresheet etc on the owner's part. that is what we call responsible pet owner.

830808, yes, SGs/Hedgies are fairly expensive compared to other pets, they're called exotic for a good reason. crazymouse once mentioned that SGs in msia are imported from indonesia, what about license? import fee? tax? so RM250-300 sounds like a good deal already, considering the fact you don't need to go through all the legal hassle.

quote jonyeap, work up a saving plan, or get a part-time job if you still insist on getting one, because having a SG will mean extra responsibility on your part. he's right in saying that if you can't afford to purchase it, probably you can't afford to keep it.
i think the reason why sangetrap and jonyeap flame you is coz they are also SG lovers, they worry about SGs falling into the wrong hands, won't that be a sad thing? that is also why they ask you to do your research if you have not. if you have already, good for you.

Also, the forum is for EVERYONE, not just you alone. bear in mind that we have freedom of speech. take a chill pill and try to take criticism objectively/positively. same goes to anyone who still has flames on their heads lol. Cheers!  icon_rolleyes.gif

btw 830808, i took some time trying to understand what u typed  rclxub.gif  lol

Wawawaaaa.... Chill everyone. I don't encourage sudden flaming immediately at the words 'I want to breed' mentioned. But the fact that you suddenly appear out of nowhere and ask for cheap SG and hedgehogs, then suddenly say want to breed, does not give you a good impression among forumers here.

I suggest you choose which to get first. Don't get them all at the same time as you may find it difficult to deal with all of them at one go. SGs need A LOT of attention and hedgehogs don't require as much, but they do need regular handling and interaction. If you get a pair of hedgies and a sugar glider all at the same time, I can imagine the strain of energy when handling them and giving attention everyday and taking care of them.

Unless of course, you don't really care and leave them be without bothering to give them attention other than food and water.

My advise is, don't ask for cheap animals because they are not cheap to breed and upkeep to begin with. There are reasons to why they are expensive and the reasons are very valid and clear. Take everything a step at a time and people may or may not realise whether you are really suitable to breed at all. If you prove to be able, instead of flaming you they will congratulate you on your litters and give good advise.

I have never heard SG need licence... all I know is certain reptiles and bird need... also monkeys... but not SG yet. You do need licence in other countries. We must be thankful we can keep SG since even Australia cannot keep them as pets.

Anyway, this forum is for everyone to learn. If people advice you or say something harsh, take it as a lesson to learn. Students.... wah.... you dunno how many students there are in LYN. I am a student myself and you can ask people here how many pets I take care of... I struggle, save every bit of money and forgo so many luxuries. It has been 1 year since I last stepped into a cinema. Already 2 years since I bought a CD.... sometimes if got extra money, eat McD or I just starve and eat bread loh.... It has also been 2 years since my last vacation....

Normally a person who is really interested in a pet would ask how to care, how to provide good food, what is the best cage or bedding and such when they first enter a forum.... not ask where to find cheap animals to breed.

I am not against breeding since I also breed. But cheap things would never give you quality. Also, it takes time to get a pet. I waited for so many months to get hold of my pets... save money, then go buy. Now I just found a job so now maybe I can spend a bit on myself. But really, if you want to breed exotics, you will not have enough time for yourself sometimes.

I can say, to have such a hobby, a student must save up his or her cash and wait for the right moment. Do not jump so fast into breeding if you are still very new to animals. I started easy, breeding mice and from there I learnt the responsibility and also the hard work of breeding. So if you are new to breeding also, start with something small first and less expensive. Learn from reading the past postings of forums, read up on all the caresheets you can get and go to bookstores to find books you can flip through to read.

I think I almost read 10 caresheets and make sure I can commit myself to a glider before getting one. As for hedgie, I entered hedgehog forums first and ask questions first, then read up on everything I can find before getting one.

So just take everything positively. We do not like to flame people but if you enter suddenly and want hedgie and glider to breed... then of course people feel not right and will say stuff. We all love these animals and we do not want to see them be breeding machines or unwanted pets later on.

4b7g8w7,

Patience is the best remedy. U must keep her close to your all the time. Put her in a pouch and hang the pouch around your neck and bring her anywhere u go.

Good luck...

i'm glad u know wat u did wrong. i personally dont have a sugar glider, but i still read the caresheets and all, just to learn bout it before i get it. i'm in here for 3 months and still dont have the confidence or cash to get them. u said i am not a pet lover? well, i starve myself, i use my ptptn loan just to get my pets. i spend rm800 in october to get 10 tarantula, 2 gecko and few scorpions. so, stating not a pet lover is wrong. i love pets. i spend most of my time in lyn and mts. u can ask the rest of them, i was way active and i had 600 posts in 2 months time. this is not my 1st account. i asked my 1st account to be banned coz i was taking up too many problems at that time, and i was like u, a newbie that comes in, asking too many things and wanting to get something i dont really know how to handle. so my suggestion is, read up and take ur time to get it.
dont have to rush, if u have the cash, but no knowledge, u better wait also.
anyway like i said, no one is flaming u on purpose but we got our point of view and we see u as someone who comes in here, asking for cheap stuff and mention bout breeding, which is totally.... u know... well, cheers dude... enjoy ur time here.

huhu..
talking about read the caresheet first before buy some pets, i got experienced..
before i buy sugar glider, i never read about it...NEVER!!!...
and i don't trust any seller that offer me to sell cheap2 gliders...
and i BODOH SOMBONG call petshop and buy from petshop because the worker there told me they got RM 150 sugar gliders....
When i went to the petshop, i saw two big cages with 20 gilders in each cage..
then i ask the shop and they asked me to choose a pair from that cage...
i really dissapointed because never thought to be like that...
the gliders soo fierce and dirty....
but because i have no choice i bought a pair CiMOn and CiCI...
at first it is very difficult for me to jaga them...
but lucky i found this site and glidercentral.net.....
i think it is true to do some research first before buy animal if u really love them
because, before i am here, i did sooo many mistakes to my cimon and cici...poor them.
that'sy before i buy hedgie, i did a research first, then asked as many question as i can to the experienced keeper for confirmation....

huhu..such a long story..

I absolutely adored SGs the moment one jump onto my shoulder in the pet shop. Super cute!!!! And I wanted it so badly wub.gif

The moment I got home I did my research everyday for a few weeks. Then a couple of weeks later I managed to find a good breeder/supplier and got my lovely Rene and Roscoe!

I think they have to be the most adorable critters ever!
