QUOTE(meonkutu11 @ Jun 17 2014, 08:49 AM) Good to have a Malaysian drilling training center. Hopefully can boost drilling personnel in near future. But one of their rig now equipped with people from 'bollywood' and keep calling their people to come working on the rig.. I guess the courses from that center are not open for public . Currently I'm holding IADC Wellcap cert and still having hard time to secure a job from any Malaysian drilling company.

QUOTE(forrestcat @ Jun 17 2014, 08:02 PM) Hi guys, I got an interview for the position of reservoir user support engineer with Exxon mobil after a chit chat with their HR. The interview will be this friday. The job description says that the main role is provide support for users of Eclipse, MBAL and prosper and seems to require an experienced user with 3-5 years experience. Since i am sure that the HR knows that i am in many a sense anfrsh graduate with no working experience in the industry, will Exxon mobil provide extensive training? While i have a masters in PE, we only used Roxar, Eclipse and MBal for simple case studies and may not be an expert user although i find using Eclipse and Roxar very straight forward. I have no experience in prosper. Does anyone have any tips what to expect and prepare for during the interview? Should i read more on reservoir softwares that is required? This is my second proper interview after CGG(waiting for result of the second phone interview after which there will be a face to face interview), id like to get well prepared and any feedback and tips would be appreciated. I used to work with ExxonMobil before and if you hired as permanent staff, please do not worry about training. ExxonMobil is very generous for sending their staff for training development, and looking at your post, you will be send to Houston for extensive course. If I had a chance to rejoin back ExxonMobil, I will take their offer. Why? If you a freelance staff on contract basis, you can demand a high rate compared to current prevailing market rate. Lulz.

Simulation software like Eclipse and etc is just a tool, solid technical knowledge to run it is essential. It's not just click on the button.

And as I suggested earlier, nothing wrong if you asked whats the norm range (for the past 2 years) during your interview.

Hi guys,
The Exxon Mobil HR rescheduled my interview to Monday as she was considerate over the friday prayer issues, so more study time for me.
Does anyone have any idea of the structure of Exxon Mobil interview in malaysia. i have looked up at glassdoor and it ranges to normal chit chat to technical interviews and group interviews but most of glassdoor reviews are in the US.
The interview is for a position that will focus on the usage of Eclipse, mbal and prosper softwares in a support and training role.

Thanks for the insight, i understand Exxon Mobil interviews are apparently more relaxing than Shell base on glassdoor reviews, but I am not going to underestimate the process.i am feeling very neutral with regards with the eventual outcome of the interview because ive been jobseeking for 5 months . But itd be an interesting experience for me though.

I'm not a senior, but I'd suggest you look at the type of project you will work on, on both sides and compare them. Working on a challenging project where you learn new things would be more valuable than a stable job where nothing challenges you. Plus, don't forget to compare all the potential networking opportunities, on both sides. Also, plenty of people work on contract basis, they're still very much alive and kicking

Looks like if you manage to please them during this interview, there is good chance to get the offer (so study abit), regarding training, don't worry so much, Exxonmobil provide plenty of training plus worldwide network and also have meeting outside Malaysia. Normally they will send you for the course that related, if you need to use the software, they will send you for the training, you can claim everything through DES especially food (^__^)

as'salammualaikum ...I just wondering could anyone guide me a bit on my path. I’m a graduate in mechanical engineering at Universiti Malaysia Pahang, after I graduated, I got my job here at sapurakencana petroleum (lumut) as graduate engineer in yard development department (which is more to civil engineering), I really want to jump to the projects department (PMD, even engineering department) but seems my manager won’t release me as I’m the only engineer left in this department. Do you have any advice to me on what I should I do? Should I stay and waits or it is already time I need to jump to other place?

Yes. Worldwide network? Yes. Meeting outside Malaysia? Yes But why aim for meetings? Aim higher. Target for expat assignments. And you'll be flying-in for ocassional meetings IN Malaysia. (..and if you're lucky, just add-in your entitled vacation time during the meeting period and you get to fly home on business class foc, hehe)
