Now with whatps, last around 24 hours, with hardly any use.

But I've known (confirmed) that somebody brought in AP sets for RM750. SOLD OFF while in transit (it takes 3 days to arrive)

So stock arrived, people came and picked up their Z3s for RM750 cash and carry.

I need a replacement phone now as my current Samsung is in terrible shape, would you recommend the z3 as a temporary daily driver til the Q20 launches? I just need a good communicator+battery life+good GPS (my job requires me to travel a lot, outstation at times)

If you are in a real hurry, I will recommend you the Z10 instead. The Z3 , at the moment, imported price is around RM750.

Z10 (3G only) is about RM600. But if you can wait for 1-2 weeks, the stock will arrive in Malaysia, but even then I don't think the price is below RM600.

To sum up:

Why Z3:
Fits all what you asked for (communication, battery life, GPS is available)
Good battery life. (the z10 sucks, really sucks)
As good as the Z10, in some cases EVEN BETTER in single app performance.


Why Z10:
Better specs
may be cheaper than Z3 when Z3 is initially launched
slightly better specs for the same price range (2GB RAM, can have up to 8 active frames)



WARNING:
but GPS, the problem isn't with the hardware. The REAL problem is the maps. BlackBerry Maps is okay, Google Maps is also okay (need to download a 'special' edition, remove the dependency on Google services). I'm not sure what kind of detail you need, but if you only need Google Maps, and you're okay using the web browser version (which is kind of the same, really), should be okay. But you can still punch in coordinates, and it still tracks where you are reliably. Just that take the maps with a pinch of salt. As usual.

There are paid GPS apps, but if you already have them in your Android device, you can load them (unless they use Google Services)




If you already have the z3, have "SNAP" (an app to download from google play store), you can use this.

Basically you download the APK, put it into your computer/laptop, and it removes all GOOGLE APPS dependencies, and you have a fully functioning Google Maps on your BlackBerry Z3.

Depends. Its not like BlackBerry doesn't want to sell it cheaper. Its the Malaysian customs and laws, and BlackBerry isn't the type to go around blatantly ignore rules and such. Especially Brightstar/Brightpoint.

yes agree with @Xirality, the price should never touch 700 n above, or its bye2 for blackberry to rise up again.

That same spec you're poo-pooing, can carry up to 2 OS. 2 OS, on top of a single microkernel.

If the release of the news (in dev circles a few days ago) is true, you can even add up to "apps from 3 platforms", supported by a single kernel, in an OS.

Besides, for the price range, its a terrific device. And for a dual core device, it has terrific support, sans Google Services (not that some google apps can't run, its just how you work your way around it)

That depends, on how BlackBerry can push the price down. I'm sure some tactics like "assembled in Malaysia / packed in Malaysia" will be used, so that there are tariffs that can be bypassed.

Yes, if they can keep below RM650, or below RM600, its even better. Even I want it to be below RM600, but I'm not really sure if its even possible. (but more than below RM600, I want it to be an offer that people cannot refuse).


in Indonesia, the buyers of Z3 are given free applications (catered to their local demands) that's totalling in excess of USD25. That's ONE QUARTER of the price of the phone.

for a low spec phone, they control the biggest market share in terms of brand for the premium range of phones (price wise), and they have people lining up to pay good money for that over priced phone, together with a bloody overpriced storage space upgrade.

@Cryptic : am not gonna judge. iP biggest since when, it 'was' biggest, but not now. my point is 2014 phone, i been surfing the net n saw dat iP6 is gonna equip wit quadcore. wheres the low spec same *? like i said we r in 2014 now, people are smarter now, technology is improving now, phone wit quadcore & 8niggabit internal is common nowadays. so if people like me looking or survey this humble z3 or any other low spec phone obviously we looking for a budget yet a good basic phone.

Up to this point, with exception of physical GPU and RAM (by which PowerVR SGX544 MP1 is the minimum (its as powerful as the first xbox) , I have not actually seen apps that says "requires dual core model xxyyzz to run".


This in comparison with the ultra liberal settings that many people are used to in Windows PCs .
