Yeah... Maybe lunch time can go open account also hmm.gif

My experience is you would need the actual EP card to apply. I was turned down at the front desk by several banks when I tried to apply with IPA.

however, I finally managed to apply joint savings account with IPA at DBS only with the bank manager's approval. This is after I went there to try open an "expat" account...
*
Nvm... I will reach there few days earlier. No harm trying biggrin.gif

That expat account just allow us to manage different currencies right? The fall-below limit is much higher right?

posb and dbs for me it's the same.. you just need your malaysian IC to open an account... whatever amount is acceptable as deposit... you will be charged a month fee of $2 for atm withdrawal of more than 4 times in a month... and another $2 if you dont maintain a minimum of $1000 in your savings account at the end of the month... smile.gif  smile.gif ..
*
Just need Malaysian IC? Let's try tomorrow biggrin.gif

First day in Singapore...

The prices for food and drink, really must convince myself not to convert them. Else I don't think I'll have mood to eat before I get my first pay doh.gif

Btw... is it normal for Singaporean to use electrical appliances brands like PowerPac/Toyomi/Sona etc? I went to electrical appliances dept of a supermarket and these are the brands they have.

Btw again... What can we get from Giant Super? Can I find electrical appliances in that? Need to get a electric kettle and maybe a table fan.

Ur company helped u applied WP? not SPass?
*
Maybe due to qualification?

For S Pass:

Educational qualifications
-A degree, diploma
-Technical certificates can be considered. These are, very broadly, courses that train the applicant to be a qualified technician or specialist in their chosen field. ---The certification should comprise of at least one year of full-time study.

- See more at: http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/pas...h.cEUcFlrY.dpuf

But I'm not sure how strict is MOM towards these requirements coz my pay is lower than the range set by them yet I got my EP approved. Supposed 3.3k only get EP right? rclxub.gif

haha, sorry to be seems to be too ambitious. but I am trying to plan a little bit ahead first.
I know finance is the golden palace to go, but as you mentioned it is not for FT.haha
yea, that's what I am doing, gotta give myself maximum 1-2 weeks.
Thanks yea rclxms.gif
*
1-2 weeks for a company to contact you, interview, wait for the result etc?

I took ~2 months from the date I apply to the date I get offered by my company biggrin.gif But I wasn't on the rush at that time. Took the opportunity to stay home and help my family to eat some rice. Went to two interviews in that period. One got turned down while the other one... M'sia GLC, told me need at least 2 months to just know the result. Another month on top to start work doh.gif

Going to start working next week. Luckily they pushed my EP application in before August biggrin.gif

I am not really rush, but still I gotta give myself a deadline.haha

No need congratz... You're lucky that you're from JB. I came here alone from S'wak not sure whether I will regret or not doh.gif

Yeah... So jealous that group of ppl. They should appreciate it much. I'm one that have to fly 30k feet to get home. Unless I can swim 1000 km over the sea. Maybe next time can see whether Brunei got job opportunity go Brunei work. Much easier to get home hmm.gif

Yea, but at least it was much cheaper previously..I still remember before I go for uni, I can eat a chicken rice for RM3, and now gonna pay RM 6 for it..haiz..
*
sad.gif You're not alone. My hometown, not even a city yet... Made it to the list of top 10 most expensive town/city to live in M'sia that ppl have been sharing on Facebook some months back. The development took place just within that few years I study uni in KL. Construction projects here and there, emerging here and there each time I go back to my hometown. That day when I was at a supermarket, some ang moh wanted to buy kuih from one stall yet they can't communicate as the stall owner don't know English. Translated for him then he said the food prices at my hometown is actually quite high. He said Dubai (or somewhere else) is even better. I suppose he mean dollar-to-dollar.

If I wasn't born there, just go to my hometown for work, I would probably not making much savings each month biggrin.gif Accommodation and food prices sky rocketed in just 5 years time. The cost of development on local residents.

But now if earn SGD, send money back also less burdening. If work in KL area probably sometimes need ask family spare some money ( doh.gif ). If work in hometown, can only save money coz got car to drive and place to stay just that opportunities and salary there really not so good.

Be glad that you're from JB. Just take bus can go home d. I jelly blush.gif

QUOTE(sheng291 @ Sep 6 2014, 09:25 PM)
Hmm..same lo...actually price in msia is ok, but the people earning is low. Taking starbucks as example, in Msia, 1 cup sell let's say RM 16, and earn around RM3000.
In S'pore, 1 starbucks cost around Rm16 as well, but they earn SGD 3000->7500RM while in Korea, 1 starbucks oso around RM 16, but they earn 2.5-3million won aka 2.5-3k USD..Msia local foods and hosue were considered cheap, but people from overseas keep coming in to stay and invest (not only s'pore), things getting pumped up..hmm..

True also, I considered that as well, considered I earn 2.5k SGD in sg or 3.5k MYR in kl, both side (if 1-1) stay quite similar price ad, transport oso (worse if you have to drive, car+petrol+toll), food kl more x and at the end of the day, if you saved 1 k from both side, become different ad..

But again depend..cuz I realized engineering in SG actually earn quite low if compare to Msia (1-1 case), I can earn around 3.5k while earn 2.5k comparing same job scopes. Despite people always say nid to work in MNC in spore, it is quite hard to get a place in MNC as freshie..haha..

haha, you can make your own house in JB also. brows.gif  #ifyougetwhatImean
*
Yeah... My pay is actually not high also. Should be few hundred bucks below average. I'm also a freshie but I decided to take it and decide after a year see how I progress over the year. If pay become alright (after annual appraisal) after a year, continue. If still not so great and don't really like, balik kampung lo biggrin.gif But for me and my friends, our highest offer should be around RM3k (I know few friends RM3k) only in KL/Penang area unless work in gov-linked company or OnG. So... for me, if look at it dollar-to-dollar, it's just few hundred bucks less. Should be ok.

I don't get what you mean for the house part. Like... Finding a land and simply build a house on it?

Talking about housing... If I work in KL, it will probably take me 3~5 years just to have enough savings for the down payment of condo or landed house (say around RM500k, loan 90%). It takes probably just 1 year + to get the same amount of cash in SG. So if I decided to continue, probably will work for few years then back to M'sia. At least save quite some amount of cash (in RM) to start for buying car/house in M'sia.

Another thing is safety...

Everyone in SG safely play with their phone on the road without worrying of getting snatched but in M'sia, have to be alert all the time. Also maybe smartphone is something too popular here. Even construction workers have smartphone, no one want to steal? biggrin.gif

JB very dangerous right? Just across the causeway so huge difference. My hometown also not safe now. Ppl get killed and robbed here and there. House break-in also so often now... No eye see M'sia punya neighbourhood safety doh.gif

biggrin.gif Got many high-earners here, our pay maybe just their 1/10th tongue.gif

Hmm.you got PR ad? After got liao should have the power to bargain for more..you're engineer oso? working in which field?
not that bad la..Shell can offer starting of 4k..3k considered quiet low in KL/Penang area (unless that's basic only)

No la, get a gf and get married and be a Jb-ian..hahahaha

That's true la..so u plan to work few yrs and back msia?

haha, true, that's one of the biggest reason I consider to work in S'pore..last time i stayed in korea..felt very safe working along at night, don't get use after back to msia..haha

er..actually..you pandai pandai lo..dun drive big big car wear gold  walk like big boss and go to complicated place and hang out late night..other than that still ok la..
*
Lol... I just start fresh la baru first week. Don't be so nervous about the PR thing. Work 2 years + then apply. One of my colleague work haven't reach 3rd year but already get his PR. I'll probably try to get PR too when the time comes biggrin.gif

The good thing is... I'm from East M'sia. When I decided to leave Singapore, can take back all my CPF contribution. West M'sian need wait till 55 only can withdraw whistling.gif

*
Just a little higher than the one you stated in your earlier posts. Those offered by the companies you interviewed.

Anyway I just take it first. I heard if perform alright, possibly can get increment before the annual appraisal (nt sure how true biggrin.gif ). Currently stuck with the pay la.

But still... Anything above 1.5k totally sufficient for you to survive in SG d. Anything extra beyond 1.5k = savings. Won't starve here even if you get just 1.5k biggrin.gif

less than 2k u can survive, but basically u cnt save any money, in that case what's the point working in spore..haha
*
Based on my current expenditures, it should be around 1.1k SGD inclusive of rental/transport etc. So you still get to save 900 even if you get a 2k offer. That's over 2.2k RM.

Yeah... That's why I accepted the offer even though it's below average.

Btw... 1.8k 10 years ago? Can't compare la... SG no inflation over 10 years? I don't believe lo unsure.gif

hmm. i think 1.8k 10 yrs ago is like 2.3k nw?hmm.
but 1 thing i realized is that spore company dun really hire degree, diploma is sufficient for them, so unless got into MNC, degree gt nt much advantages in spore..maybe yes for later on, but not for freshie..
*
No it makes a difference.

For diploma, mostly will be technician/engineering assistant only. If want progress to Engineer still need a degree in engineering.

For freshie... Ya, not much difference. But the career path will be different although I'm not so sure if diploma grad can climb higher to become engineer or not.

In M'sia, diploma stuck as technician, if good at climbing can be managerial post la but not technical (like can't get Ir). In SG I still not sure. Maybe will check on it later see where I'm at biggrin.gif

Btw... Anyone here familiar with PEB (Professional Engineer Board) in SG? Any idea whether they accept M'sian Degree or not. From their website, I read that any degree under their own region/country accredited by their own board is recognised. For M'sia, it's BEM. I'm sure my degree is recognised by BEM but is it recognised by PEB? hmm.gif

Engineer, unlike lawyer and doctor, there is no bylaw stated that must be degree holder.
Most of the engineering job in s'pore, especially M&E or marine all stated diploma is sufficient, and got a title with engineer.
The only difference is after you wanna climb managerial role..

bro, refer Washington accord, course accredited by EAC aka IEM will be accredited by IES as well..
you wanna take PE? what's ur major?
*
I'm not sure about Singapore but actually in Malaysia you need a degree to register with BEM in order to be called engineer. No way a diploma grad can become an official engineer in M'sia. But in the real world, anything is possible la biggrin.gif Coz BEM won't really go check every company. You go those electronics company even like Intel... All engineers is true la... But maybe 90% not registered with BEM so they're actually practising engineering illegally.

I know this for M'sia just not sure for SG la. I work in construction company. Major E&E.

Just read around first la... Where got so easy be PE. Experience also need 4 years from what I read. If got the chance sure go for it la. Get PE from SG then can come back MY take some test and practice PE in M'sia too (I think is like that la biggrin.gif ) Else if leave SG back to MY need accumulate experience again in order to take PE exam in M'sia.

er..that's on paper only..there are a lot of diploma holders with good experience getting position as engineer..and i've no problem on that, i think they deserved..
aiya, BEM say only, never enforce like lawyer or doctor..what to do...

icic...E&E u should get PE, i am from ME major, PE jus for title only...you can be consultant later on...
i last time oso interned in m&E company, and m&e seems to be the easiest 1 to get in s'pore as their own ppl dun wanna work at site..haha
yea....if u wan ur exp in sg to be counted, u nid to work in msia for at least 1 yr 1st...
*
Anyway... It's still too early to discuss this. Let's see how I progress down the road first. ME also can get PE mah... When you work in construction related industry, you must know everything from civil, mechanical and electrical one. Everything must be harmony else sure got problem one.

Don't be site engineer can d biggrin.gif

But if already get PE in SG then different story right biggrin.gif Don't know la... See how doh.gif If start in M'sia also susah la... Later baru start work already start starving.

From what I heard from friends from Malaysia, only UM can direct go for PEB exams. For others like UTM etc, they have to take a post grad in NUS or NTU. 4 years, 2 exams, 1 interview. Malaysia one now how? I read BEM website got exam then stop reading already  rclxub.gif . The washington accord not sure how its work. That is few years ago, now I not sure.
*
Oh... Nvm... Time not there yet.

But from what I read...

Maybe it takes a lawyer to understand these. Can't they put it in layman's term? doh.gif

biggrin.gif Nvm... Got PE more syok mah tongue.gif

Yeah... Washington accord... Learned that during uni time.

Btw... Do we have to register with any professional body to practice engineering in SG? Something like BEM?

biggrin.gif I just 3 months out from Uni, that day attend course for construction got some test already showing the sign of age biggrin.gif My final year also quite honeymoon actually... Not many papers as I pushed them ahead. Focus on project mostly.

Hmm... No need further study post grad. A good news for me biggrin.gif But I'm uncertain if I'll carry on for that long period of time here biggrin.gif
