Putting those professional or whatever geng thing aside...

My experience with the mobile network here have been quite disappointing. The data network structure can't cater the spike in number of users during working hours. Almost impossible to connect to internet while commuting to/from work place. Should have upgraded their facilities to cope with the demand mah... doh.gif doh.gif

So to answer your question, degree holder = no class  tongue.gif
*
biggrin.gif Macam a little misleading leh...

According to the link it should be...

Degree holders who can't find job = No class tongue.gif

Anyway... I think depends on industry la... For me in construction, as of my experience, a fresh grad degree holder is just like a medium between lower class (construction workers, site supervisor, site coordinator etc) and the higher class (the boss and client)

Degree holder not cheap, better nor faster smile.gif

Or there might be too many degree holders OR too few jobs going around for them hence the statement.
*
tongue.gif Lazy read la...

You mean SG degree holder? M'sia degree holder quite cheap in SG wor (Maybe just me?) tongue.gif Can be better and faster depends on person. biggrin.gif

Too many degree holders... Probably... Not to mention that degree holders from all over the world is pouring in. I attended my BCSS course with people from M'sia, India, Indonesia, Myanmar... From their appearance, I must admit I have the prejudice that they just started as construction workers with maybe O level or even lower... But no... I looked at the attendance list, only 1 or 2 or them don't own a degree. That 1 or 2 have diploma too...

Have to admit that I'm judging them by their look because if I meet similar looking ppl in M'sia, I won't expect them to have a diploma nor degree. Will only expect them to work in computer shop/construction. Coming to SG really do open up my mind quite much biggrin.gif It's just so different rolleyes.gif Other than having to leave my family and friends to work here, not much complaint.

The safety course? How was it? Taught by who? Quite cheap leh 30 plus hours for 100 plus sgd? Maybe I enroll too I work at site but I never attend hehe.
*
Ya the safety course. Taught by who? I forgot the name d. Indian trainer. Tips give kaw kaw but not by the Indian trainer, by another chinese trainer that take over the last lesson, then group evaluation, just part with some pro. I just copy during the evaluation. Although I did study for it and will also pass on my own la but since there's free meal, take it lo tongue.gif

Er... 4 days course from 8 to 6 (but normally around 8.30~9 only start, 4.30~5+ leave d) so yeah 30++ hours.

100 plus? Which centre offer that price? The one I attended is 260SGD after don't know how many % discount. Company pay I don't care tongue.gif

Name, FIN/IC number come I go report MOM!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

tongue.gif maybe I should lead MOM to read this thread here.

QUOTE(cloudwan0 @ Sep 23 2014, 06:43 PM)
Hi all, I'm headache right now, hope experts here can help me to solve this.
3 months ago, I get a job offer from Singapore(2nd time work in sg, 1st time was about 10 years ago, after that study in kl and working for 8 years)
So I take up the offer(small company, just 4 ppl include boss) and resign(my boss say apply for EP sure no problem) every week I ask my employer what is the status.
At the 3rd weeks, my employer told me the EP rejected(as what he say is bcos the mom drop his email) and he going to do appealing.
So I keep on waiting for the status and every day my employer told me the status is pending(from EP online I only see rejected)
Until last 2 weeks another company come to me for interview, as I also don't know when the result coming out or it will totally no result, I go for the interview.
This morning, the 2nd company offer me
This afternoon, the 1st company told me the EP approved
I don't know what to do, 2nd company offer better and better future, I thinking to taking up the 2nd offer, but the EP is already approve, I don't know whether can reject or not, and will the reject affect the future EP application.

Pls help me
*
Probably try to seek advice from MOM? I think they'll be willing to answer you biggrin.gif Just call and ask without revealing your ID, see whether such cases happen before and what can be done.

Because you can't ask either company. If you tell the first company, later they cause you to be blacklisted. If go ask second company, later they give you up don't want to help you to solve the problem. So better ask professional advice from MOM itself biggrin.gif

Tax is not a concern in singapore. It's far more lower than malaysia as resident tax, even non resident tax also lower. As low as 2%.

But for your case, first year can't be resident tax because stay less than 183 days.

It's fine as long as TS works more than 183 days. For this year he will be taxed at Non-Res rates but sometime next year once he hits 183 (or 1 year? not too sure exact dates here) he can apply to IRAS to re-assess his this year tax and they will re-calculate it as a resident.
*
Can elaborate more? I started in Sept... How will I be taxed and when? I totally have no idea about it.

Btw... I read on this: http://www.iras.gov.sg/irashome/page.aspx?id=9878

QUOTE
Income tax is payable on income earned in the year before.  You should report your full income earned in Singapore in your tax return. If you are liable to pay Income tax, IRAS will send you a letter inviting you to e-File your tax return.

Example

If you commenced employment in Singapore on 3 May 2013, you will be required to complete the tax return for the Year of Assessment 2014 by 15 Apr 2014, with employment income for the period 3 May 2013 to 31 December 2013.

Can enlighten me on this?

U still get taxed as non resident at flat rate of 15% of your income on that year. If you continue to work on the following year, then you will be taxed under resident tax. However, deodorant added that you can request to re-assess your previous year tax based on resident tax, but I'm not sure this part. The income tax same with Malaysia where have resident tax and non resident tax, just that you are Malaysian working in Malaysia, so you do not know about non resident tax. If you have any rental for your property and you did not stay in Malaysia more than 183 days, your rental will be taxed as non resident which at 26% (can't remember the exact percent, more or less) flat rate without any tax relief.
You started in sept definitely less than 183 days. So your tax will  be based on non resident which will be flat rate of 15%.

No worry about declaring tax that you've earned from the company, because your company will submit your income tax via auto inclusion scheme (if more than 12 people in the company), or manual via IR8A form (if company did not opt for auto inclusion scheme). You just need to e-File others source of income such as rental or if you have tax relief that wanted to add in (e.g. life insurance, study fee, etc).

Other than that, pretty straight forward and easy compare to Malaysia where you need to submit yourself online.
*
What about the link I shown above? Not based on commencement date?

Seriously? 15%? So I'm giving up 15% of my first 4 months salary? What?? doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Hmm... After some googling... Maybe will get deducted at first, then next year when tax is filed, it will be credited in the account as some form of advanced tax payment. I read from one website... Like someone who worked less than 60 days yet get taxed 15% this year, get the taxed amount credited back when filing for tax next year. Not sure rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

cry.gif cry.gif Don't tax me 15% eh... No money for new year later.

If you are in Singapore for at least 183 days in a year

Example:
You have stayed or worked in Singapore from 01 Apr 2013 to 03 Oct 2013 (186 days). You will be taxed as a resident for the Year of Assessment 2014.

Year of Assessment Period of Stay (Inclusive of Work) in Singapore Resident Status
2014 01 Apr 2013 to 03 Oct 2013 (186 days) Resident

If you are in Singapore for at least 183 days straddling two years

Under the two-year administrative concession, you will be regarded as a tax resident for the two years if you stay or work in Singapore for a continuous period of at least 183 days. This concession applies to foreign employees (excludes directors of a company, public entertainers or professionals) who have entered Singapore from 01 Jan 2007.

Example:
You have stayed or worked in Singapore from 03 Nov 2012 to 07 May 2013 (186 days). You will be taxed as a resident for Years of Assessment 2013 and 2014.

Year of Assessment Period of Stay (Inclusive of Work) in Singapore Resident Status
2013 03 Nov 2012 to 31 Dec 2012 (59 days) Resident
2014 01 Jan 2013 to 07 May 2013 (127 days) Resident
  Total: 186 days

If you are in Singapore for three consecutive years

Under the three-year administrative concession, if you stay or work in Singapore continuously for three consecutive years, you will be regarded as a tax resident for all the three years even though the number of days you are in Singapore is less than 183 days in the first and third year.

Example:
You have stayed or worked in Singapore from 03 Nov 2011 to 07 May 2013. You will be taxed as a resident for Years of Assessment 2012 to 2014.

Year of Assessment Period of Stay (Inclusive of Work) in Singapore Resident Status
2012 03 Nov 2011 to 31 Dec 2011 (59 days) Resident
2013 01 Jan 2012 to 31 Dec 2012 (366 days) Resident
2014 01 Jan 2013 to 07 May 2013 (127 days) Resident

Don't worry about the tax as long as you continue to work in Sg. For my experience the tax bill didn't come in the second year when my first year was less than 183days. Only on the third year I received the assessment notice for both first year (<183days) and second year (365days) and everything taxed as per resident  rate. In fact my first year tax was so low because the income just surpassed $20k little bit due to only few months salary. The non resident tax only applied to people who leave Sg before 183days and IRAS will order HR to withhold the last month salary in order to clear the tax balance.

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif This is exactly what I need.

Btw... Take 6 months, 20k. Means when you first started your work already more than 3.3k. I believe it should be less than 6 months so should be 3.5, 4 or even 5k. Omg awesome pay drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif

For executives position they do not prefer degree? i see the qualifications are mostly degrees and above..
or does it means chances are very low for those who have a my degree gets an exec job in sg...

*Note : i mean in finance/accounting industry

I do know that they prefer acc graduates with professional titles like CPA/ACCA, but just wondering how about a degree graduate who is applying for exec job in medium tier firms/MNCS? no chances?

Hi hi. Just wanted to ask everyone who's moved there, I already have my IPA and will be going to Singapore this weekend. I'll probably get my EP end of next week, read somewhere that it takes around 4 days after the company HR request for the EP to be issued. When arriving in Singapore what do you put as your length of stay on the white immigration card?

Thanks! smile.gif
*
I put 30 days.

Erm... I just got my EP card today, arrived at office last Thursday. So... It took me close to 1 month before getting my card tongue.gif

Actually don't need to rush. With IPA you already can work and stay here until the stipulated date, should be February or March. Just that you can't open bank account, can't get salary credited biggrin.gif Said so because the 2 years permit duration only starts counting from the date of request. Like my case... My HR requested for pass issuance 2 weeks ago only after my medical report reaches her hand (stupid MHC... Requested to send courier end up never send it vmad.gif ). The EP expiry date is 2 years after the request date instead of the application date biggrin.gif

QUOTE(bearbear @ Sep 29 2014, 10:53 AM)
application approved and you are required to present physically for card application?

you should have a letter stating you are allowed to work in Singapore already, use the letter & don't need to fill up white card. I once fill up the white card and the immigration officer kinda question me why still fill up white card. I think they have it in their system.
*
I filled up 30 days. Then the guy confirmed with me that I'm staying in for 30 days. Asked for the reason... Say come here for work, then showed him the IPA. Settle.

QUOTE(aLertz @ Sep 29 2014, 10:58 AM)

mostly you'll settle everything within the first 2 weeks...

QUOTE(trade_mark @ Sep 29 2014, 02:10 PM)
Hi bearbear, yes application approved and next week will be there to collect the card.

Hmmm ok, well in any case like you said if its in the system then the officer will just tell me when I'm at the counter.

Thanks for the info!
*
Have you done your medical checkup? So fast can collect d? Nice...

After I show my passport, the officer didn't mention about it wor... Just see the white card ask me why stay 30 days then ask me show IPA.

Which bank in Singapore offer the highest interest rate in terms of saving account and fixed deposit account? I'm a Malaysian who is going to work in SG next week. My company HR asked me to open a bank account for salary bank in. Anyone can suggest me? Singapore bank POSB, DBS, OCBC, UOB, or Malaysia bank MAYBANK, CIMB. Which one better? Thanks for helping!
*
biggrin.gif I never bother to look at their interest rate/FD. IINM their interest rate is relatively low compared to M'sia ones.

http://singapore.deposits.org/
http://malaysia.deposits.org/

Not sure if there's anything hidden there but from these figures, I think the interest rates are lower in SG la biggrin.gif But if you want to take inflation and other factors into account then no idea.

For convenience, POSB/DBS (DBS owns POSB, you can do transaction at either bank using either bank account without extra charges) and OCBC would be better. These two banks have more ATMs around as I've observed. Of course POSB+DBS still the most la. Any MRT/shopping mall most probably have at least one POSB/DBS ATM machine.

Maybank is really rare here *although there's one near my place* with only 80+ ATM IINM in whole SG. Not so convenient if want to withdraw money.

If you look only to figures, join the financial sector, no other professions in SG beat that, except MPs I suppose. But banking job satisfaction zero.

Long live father Singapore  notworthy.gif . Yeap, seeing applicants with ivy league degree now, not oxbridge or harvard, but the among the front row, NUS also need to step aside, foresee my retrenchment really soon  cry.gif . Previously those people are coming here as expat relocating from their European palace.

That said, Singapore don't prefer only atas Blue Mountain coffee served in 5 stars hotel with gold plated porcelain ware, some still drink their Starbucks, Nespresso, kopitiam, 3-in-1 etc etc. Just find the compatible buyer and you would have a deal. Even coffee from cat poop also highly sought after  shocking.gif .
*
Talking about Starbucks...

I can only say it's cheap here. Not the case of dollar for dollar. In M'sia, earn erm... for eg. RM3000 pay RM20+- for a starbucks, that's 0.67% of monthly salary. In Singapore, take 10% off the salary, around 2700SGD pay 7SGD+- for a starbucks, that's 0.26%. In short, someone working in SG can buy 1.5 cups more starbucks with the same portion of their salary (in %) tongue.gif Not hard to see why most starbucks in SG is full with people all time. But I do see some starbucks in more hidden areas with much less people. Better environment to have coffee break.
