I know this might have been discussed earlier on but i can't seem to find the old thread. Can u guys give me some suggestion which brand/model I should go far? I need to get 2 units, one for myself and another for my bro. I saw one in LYP the other day, it was Rm38 if im not mistaken but it looks very cheapo...don't really like it |

I got the el cheapo model , but then i heard I could increase the voltage , thus higher the fan would spin. The bulit-in USB Adapter just sucks. So I bought a Switching Voltage thingy (5v-9v) , when I select 9V , the fan blows at full speed....But again its noisy

Thanks for suggestions... Well, i'm surprised to see a new thread here as there really was an older thread covering this topic as well...
As for this cooler master thingy, most well-known computer shops in KL and PJ obviously carry it right? Any1 of you guys using it? |

Not bad what... It also makes the laptop more ergonomically-friendly by tilting it up a few degrees... This is the one that costs around 100-something right?

Wait for the PJ Digital Mall.
Otherwise if you're eager to check it out, drop by at MidValley and take a look, then slowly survey and bargain for the best price. |

I'll be going to PC Fair to look for one as they're much much cheaper than usuall price. |

QUOTE(M!5sRaBb!t @ Jul 28 2006, 05:41 PM) there is some kind of ball thingy to put at the bottom of the laptop, is anyone using it? is it good? Yes,there is.Its just to put under the laptop to provide some space for the hot air to come out. In another words,to provide some gaps in between for better air flow. QUOTE(dantwt @ Jul 28 2006, 09:35 PM) ![]() It looks like this. I saw it in MidValley. QUOTE(Seng_Kiat @ Jul 28 2006, 09:47 PM) Yes,if you lappie does heats up and you use it for long hours. |

Will it make a difference to us? |

jooku1 : AFAIK.. for coolermaster notepal..theres a curve at the HDD area for our notebook.. so air can circulate in that portion... should be able to decrease the HDD temp abit or so...
another problem is that our notebook headphone n mic ports are located in front.. so we cant use it when the lappie is on the cooler pad.. |

QUOTE(ClieNut Gadget Freak @ Jul 31 2006, 09:47 AM) ya sure, i trust u can do it oso arcylic - RM15 (including blow hole charge RM2) 12cm fan - RM15 adapter - RM10 red rubber - RM5 (including 4 screws n nuts) "salefon tip" - RM1 total - RM46 + RM4 (own labor) = RM50 ngam ngam i can tell u tht, DIY cooler r always better than outside RM100+ alu cooler, as the fan position is designed urself directly to the heat area, plus 12cm is strong yet silent kambaide, as long as LYN kaki, sure can do it, wokcah! |

QUOTE(dantwt @ Jul 30 2006, 05:57 PM) another problem is that our notebook headphone n mic ports are located in front.. so we cant use it when the lappie is on the cooler pad.. the generic 3 fan notebook cooling pad i use doesnt submerge the whole notebook to the pad so the ports in front is still usable, maybe you should try that |

QUOTE(jch @ Nov 6 2006, 02:30 PM) owh.. its called SpeedBalls. thanks for telling me the name. Well,I've used 3 coolerpad before. First one is a chaplang one, then Vantec Lapcool 2 and now Jetart Xcool.Comparison between Jetart and Vantec,I'll say get Jetart. It is foldable and is much protable for travelling.Though it's plastic, but it pretty strong I would say. Performance wise,it's pretty good,2 fans are located at the middle.Back of the coolerpad has some sort or stand which lift the laptop.Underneath the coolerpad, theres 2 compartments for storing the USB cable.On/Off switch is located at the right side of the coolerpad. As for the controller for the speed,it's located at the back.Besides that,it's got a rubber pad which holds your laptop preventing it from slipping.Power consumption wise is 1.0W. As for the fan speed,it spins at 1800 - 2500RPM. Main thing is that it has to draw the hot air from the laptop and allow it to come out. As for the Vantec, though it spins at faster RPM,i think 2800RPM but it does not draw the heat out which the temp. still remains the same. |

As for the Vantec, though it spins at faster RPM,i think 2800RPM but it does not draw the heat out which the temp. still remains the same. i think i will go for Jetart Xcool. Btw, where did u buy it? can i know the price? thanks. |

Hello. Just wanna know about the DIY cooler. How come don't want to use aluminium? Is it because it's expensive? or the acrylic material much better?
I was thinking of doing it myself. So, before get the stuff, would like to know about it. This post has been edited by cadmus: Nov 19 2006, 05:53 AM |

I've seen many who are using this coolerpad.
Seems ok to them so far..But it's still advisible to get the branded ones as they're more sturdy and firm,at least it comes with warranty and definately will last you for ages. |

Sometimes you'll be surprise that a cheapo coolerpad works better than a branded one like Jetart,Coolermaster or Vantec.
I have to admit that my cheapo one was mcuh effective compared to the Jetart and Vantec. All you need to do is to position it well so that it could draw the hot air out and blow cool air into it. |

zalman from korea. i think its better than coolermaster. and it wont block the front side of the notebook. using 2 fans, it distributes cool air evenly since the panel is drilled with small holes.

I finally bought myself a laptop cooler. It looks like this acrylic cooler from this website.
http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2006-04DSale2740708.htm got it from lowyat at RM45. Fan is faster than cooler pad. 3kRPM i think. I'm using wide screen lappie. not sure why price so big different but i think it is the same thing kwa.. The cooling effect i think got la a bit..around 1 to 5 celcius lesser for CPU temp. Maybe this is due to the reason that the fans does not directly hits my lappie fans. So, have i to adjust it somewhere. And i lift the whole cooler front part up more cos this way, the fan can suck up more air(tested with n without lifting up..fan blows more air when lifted up a little bit..about 5cm or so.) Anyway, the LED is nice. looks good when i off my lights..haha. i compared this with coolermaster and the zodiac by evercool. All also cannot fight this fan.Got one cooler can maybe can be compared to this. it's this one. http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=256562&st=0 the fan, although i think not as fast as the one i bought but it's aluminum which doesn't even touch your lappie bottom(should be as near as possibile to help heat dissipation) and also got 3 fans.So in the edn, i op for the acrylic one cos fast fan, look nice and fits my lappie(got speaker jacks in front along with USB port) This post has been edited by cadmus: Nov 29 2006, 10:13 PM |

Yeah, i agee with steventan85 when he said only a few celcius drop. I guess i need to send my laptop for servicing..clean the fans. When my laptop is ideal state, it is about 50celcius. when play games that really high end, goes from 70 to 80 celcius. watch videos about 60celcius.
I'm using ACER 15.4 inch widescreen. The cooler fan is located in the center of the whole acrylic board. For my ACER laptop, the laptop fan is at the top right corner..so the cooler fan tak sentuh lngsung..that's why i said the effect might be lesser for me.The holes for RAM also tak sentuh the cooler fan. Anyway, the cooler that i bought is smaller in size..i think it's for 14inch..but then when i put my laptop, it fits nicely..I would sugest bring laptop along to test n c whether fits yours or not if you gonna buy from lowyat.that's what i did. IT depends on people whether like the dsign or not for laptop cooler. but then i can say that the fan for this acrylic is faster than coolermaster or the Zodiac by evercool. However, it only have 2 small fan which runs at 3krpm. i was jsut wondering. i went lookign for a coole pad. the guy told me the fan blows air upwards. meaning it blows air back up to the laptop. but doesn't the internal fan in the laptop blows the air outwards?
so got traffic jam?? or am i just jammed in the head? |

It's true, some cooling pads are like that.so got traffic jam?? or am i just jammed in the head? All you need to do is reverse the fans. Unscrew the fans in turn it upside down. Cooler pads like CM's Notepal can be changed easily. it may be harder or even impossible to reverse fans in plastic cooling pads. |

the laptop DOES touch the frame. I'd say the material of the cooler is important. The purpose of the cooler master fan is to cool off the the material, that helps dissipate heat, rather than to blow the laptop.

I think it works by increasing airflow beneath your lappy. for a 15.4 inch screen..better opt for widescreen cooler like W1 series..cos its for widescreen.. is ur 6400 is 15 inch then..go for Notepal 15" 1.. i think it will fit...
i tested my laptop GC... without the fan on(with the board below, the temp is around 54-55C when i on the 3 fan, the temp drop to 47-49C.. so i think Notepal really help.. cos the air hit directly on to the suction point... |

i wanted ask about my laptop heat that coming out from HDD part that locate bottom left.. and my hdd are 50'c most of the time when i surfing and regular used.. about my cpu temperature are 37-40'c with regular which are quite cool already. it's a Compaq v3000 amd series.. i felt that the "Branded" cooling pad u guys mention.. the fans are locate upside.. i scare it wont be so effective due to my bottom left located heat.. all the i need is a cooling pad that cool my HDD temperature which are locate at bottom left... anyone here who using this notebook model.. can you share experience with us about this notebook model.. i found that the DIY cooling pad are interesting.. but also a big con for me.. 1st, it use AC power.. i travel lot.. it's bulky and hard to pack.. anyway, i am finding a cooling pad that suit for my notebook.. Any suggestion, review, experience will be appreciate.. Thank You ^^ This post has been edited by Andiboi: Feb 8 2007, 04:21 AM |

i think the most important thing is the air flow because the main reason we using notebook cooler is to make air flow so it can cool our laptop.
if small fans, then they have to use high speed to increase the air flow. i'm using Vantec Lapcool 4, 160mm fan, 600rpm ...80CFM http://www.vantectw.com/eng/index_eng.html <--have a look very light, and sound? wat sound?there's no sound! |

actually i think the concept is almost the same, just that by blowing in the air,you will carry more dirt particles into the machine than sucking out the air.
but sucking the air in and hit it on the targeted area,eg. the processor will make a big diffrence in cooling effect. this is wht we called forced air cooling. if we suck the air out, heat at the processor will not be reduced that much but in overall machine does. if got both in and out, then good la...and for HZ428..did u ever seen a 80mm casing fan attached to the front panel on desktop cpu?its to suck air in. and below laptop, there is a small fan to suck air in too. and why is the fan always at the lower part? and the other at the upper part? well..air tends to go upwards when heated..so cooler air will be at the bottom, thats y the fan that blows air in is always at the bottom.and the one suck air out is at the higher part. btw, laptop coolers are abit conflict with the concept..maybe because of the dirt particles restriction problem. the upper and lower fan is both sucking air out...and all round the laptop no holes for air to go in...doesn sounds right ...got air out,no air in. therefore laptop coolers do help abit..but not too much due to this conflict in airflow thing. QUOTE(hz428 @ Mar 22 2007, 01:42 AM) if u guys ever study thermodynamic or heat transfer you will know that blowing air in is stupid. no offence heehee, the cpu fan blows toward processor because by suc king out the hot air, eventually the cool air will go in by it self. same question, did u ever see cpu fan blowing towards processor or rather suc king the hot air out?! |

i dont see why u guys wanna blow air from bottom
there is only small holes (maybe my unit only) i would prefer the one tht suck out hot air from the laptop (heatsink) but for me, my laptop has minimum heating ...so no need any cooler This post has been edited by EmperorMeng: Mar 22 2007, 06:59 PM |

why do we blow air in to the laptop?easy..coz the cooling effect is better than sucking them out.
same like trying to blow towards a cup of hot coffee to cool it down.you wont suck the air rite? |

Uiih... cannot laa suck air from hot coffee - cos then it'll go into the tummy...
But someone can make an experiment. Take two similar temp hot coffee, and put a computer fan on top of each cup - one facing out (suck) and one facing down (blow into coffee). See which one gets cooler faster... |

Find places where hot air coming out from your lappy and put a high speed sucker at there. |

Some ppl will do antidust after a certaint period including me.Open up the case clean wat ever u wanna clean and replace some ASS5.I'm a DIY cooler user, because those market coolers are nothing help to me.Furthermore, i support the theory of blow air is better than sucking air.(Have u ever heard ppl using fans to suck instead of blowing towards them? i think no.)In my opinion i also think that the Evercool magic cooler(sucking air from heatsink 1) will help to reduce the CPU temp but of course we can not expect it to suck out the heat from HD or other components in the laptop.(it is only design for cpu cooling purpose). If the Evercool magic cooler plus the cooling pad the cooling result should be more obvious. The most important we have to remember is the design of the laptop. Our cooling is all depends on the design of the laptop such as the position of HD,CPU,air intake, etc. I found that dell I6k seldom facing heat problem and the compaq V3k is abit hotter maybe is becoz of the size and the position of the HD is so weird(at the left front portion)Which makes it hard to match a suitable cooler. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/242971/+120

when you blow air in to cool something, make sure they have enough empty space for the air to circulate and also a suitable exhaust area...cant just keep on blowing air into an enclosed place, heat wont be released.

Wokey... I just bought another one today, the Cooler Master Notepal - the regular black one (not P1 nor Widescreen). Got it at Sri Komputer (I know... but they got black) for RM90.
My lappie is a compaq core duo with 2GB ram that I use to run CS2 and heavy rendering stuff like that. Normal temperature (only running Firefox), even when at the cold office is 50 to 56C! - as reported by Speed Fan, but very consistent though. The lappie's fan is at the bottom, blowing out. So I just got home, straight away turned the 2 fans the other way around cos I found that it's blowing air up into the cooler - so now they're blowing down, sucking air away from the bottom of the lappie. The result? Well, I'm at home, no aircon, turned off the and now sweating after dealing with the Notepal 16 screws, and me lappie is runnning idle at about 32C, with Mozilla it goes up to 35 - 42 Celcius max... Easily 10C cooler. Now looking forward to get to the office on Monday and see what happens. Thanks for reading |

Absolutely correct Mostly you won't need to blow into those vents; just sucking out the hot air could cool down the lappy a lot |

Yeah! Normally those vents are located at the ram and hardisk.Like my dell i6k only have ram vent no hd vent(but the temp is still acceptable 38c.idle 45c playing carbon). For compaq v3k the hd vent is quite nice but the heat dissipation still sux |

hot sure whats the heatsink for..but from what i see in my desktop, motherboard, there is a heatsink on it. a smaller heatsink compared to the 1 for CPU.maybe to cool down some motherboard stuffs la.
yup,i say mine got vents for Ram,HDD, and a few more here and there. if got vents, then suck the air lo..if no vents at all, then blow...coz dust wont go in ma. |

Not too sure how to say this but I think that in my case - at the bottom of the laptop are 1 fan blowing air out, and a vent.
So... I made both the fans on the Notepal to suck air la... Of course, the Notepal fans are not located directly below the lappie's fan and air vent - these are in the middle of the lappie and the Notepal fans are at the far end (near the back of the lappie). Which is just as well cause I find that the HOTTEST spot on my lappie is on the back left corner where the power unit is located, and there's another vent here as well, facing the back. This place, especially at the bottom used to be almost too hot to even touch (!), but now is just slightly warm. Also, I just noticed that the Notepal main surface is not actually straight - it's curved downwards in the middle from back to front, so there's more space between it and my lappie in the middle part, where the lappie's fan and air vent are. Hope that makes sense... |

i'm using twinhead ifio121..the heatsink is near to the RAM,but not directly on the RAm la,beside...maybe its for the north-south bridge thing la..i dont know..
when i started to use this laptop, ialways got heating problems..now,not anymore..cpu temp. stabled at 44degrees all the time and hard disk below 40 if not on heavy downloading. i think its because i use the "minimal power management" option,so the cpu goes slow when i not using much power, can save electricity and less heating problem. |

I found that my notebook's temperature can easily goes up to > 60 celcius since recently, which I personally don't think is a healthy figure for laptop. I was thinking to get a cooling pad to cool it down, but I find no air vent at the bottom of my notebook for CPU and hardisk areas (the hottest components I guess). I wonder will cooling pad really help even the holes are not there in first place. What are the other alternatives if cooling pad is not the efficient solution for me?
Hope to get some opinions from you guys and gals. 8-) |

Poor people leh.... still looking for job now, no $$ for this option, haha....
Anyway, anyone doing or did cooling before for laptop without air vent at the bottom of CPU and hardisk areas? How's the effect? I believe my laptop (Asus A3N) is not the only model having such design... By the way, my laptop is using Pentium-M 1.5 GHz (not sure whether is second or third generation of Centrino). Is ~60 Celcius a normal temperature for this CPU (yeah I know laptop design will take effect as well)? Thanks. |

I see. The temp usually is around 55 Celcius when idle; but easily goes up to 60 Celcius when running some basic applications such as MS Word and Firefox.
Anyway, I find that the airflow at the back vent becomes much weaker then before even when the fan is spinning at full speed. |

QUOTE(steve2895 @ Apr 16 2007, 12:15 AM) 99 retail i tink, stil can be bargain...depends on ur skillzi always recomend those coolers with full alu built...i've been goin aroun n testing those lappies coolers...all of em doesnt produce much airflow unless u mod the voltage urself which will shorten ur lappy standby time if ur using battery. so, normally lappy coolers dont really depend on da fan, it depend on da pad material, if its alu / copper(quite rare for copper), the heat from ur lappy will spread thru the pad faster and extend to a wider surface, then the heat will be released into da air more efficiently if ur room is equipped with air conditioner...da alu pad will feel ICY~ |

Have anyone used the Vantec 4 fans cooler?
Thinking of buying it as it's cheap RM69 and it looks powerful plus it fits my lappy perfectly. |

I am currently using Evercool NP-101
![]() ![]() LINK: http://www.evercool.com.tw/products/np-101.htm# Specs: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Bought it for RM45 at the recent PC Fair. Not too bad of a budget cooler I would say. Actually I was eyeing on the CoolerMaster Notepal... but the thing is, after doing some research, I find that the best notebook cooler is still the one where there is a fan 'sucking' air out directly from under where your laptop exhaust is (those that is at the bottom)... so I got this because it has 4 fans directly under the entire surface of the laptop. Plus, the fan speed is adjustable so that you can control the sound. Not a aluminium cooler but definitely best of its class This post has been edited by J-Slade: Apr 21 2007, 11:44 PM |

I had experience with a few coolers, first one is one of those cheap ones, currently selling about RM18, works pretty good but don't look that nice, second one is Coolermaster Notepal, don't work as good as the cheap one, cost a little less than RM100.
Anyway I ain't giving up on the Coolermaster so I modified it a little, I tried flipping the fans over to suck air rather than blow, but wasn't good as well, then I tried removing the air vents grilles on to, it is better now. then I realized it works best with the notebook a little further away from the fans, so I put a stud on each side to allow more space between the fans and the notebook and thats the best way it could be. Then today something came to my mind when I was at Carrefour, they were selling those huge ventilation fans at less than RM60! Haha I bet those will be great! Minus the danger of losing some fingers.. |

Agree. Mostly cooling pads' fans r at the top, around our lappy's battery position. but the heat is mainly generated by the processor unit, hdd n gc. which locate center or slightly bottom of the laptop if u picked up ur laptop wif the battery's position on top. this zalman comes wif a fan speed controller which can help to optimise ur battery life depends on ur ussage. higher fan speed = higher power comsumption for example, if we juz do some simple typing n documentation, we can set the fan speed to slower mode, as the laptop x generate so much heat n help to save up ur battery life for longer ussage as well. i think it's a good selling point. moreover, this cooling pad is designed aerodynamically, n quite light. high mobility i would say. u can carry it to work wif u n yet, it x eat up space n easy to keep. behind the cooling pad, there's 2 more fan 'placement' shape. i wonder if we can it out acording the shape n add it to 4 fans. haha except the pricing, i would say tis is the best colling pad around. |

I got my Zalman for 150 at Cycom last week! It's my first cooler so I don't really have a point of comparison, but I'd heavily recommend it. The cooler itself feels icy soon after I turn my pc (and subsequently the cooler) on! Even better with an airconditioner, ofc.
My dv6205tx idles at 28-30C and I have yet to see it go up higher than about 43C. It usually runs low-mid 30s while I use it to surf / IM / etc. This post has been edited by Karinett: Apr 26 2007, 07:40 PM |

depends on ur ussage oso lar..
zalman is great for those who play games a lot, overnite download, mass video conversion n run a lot heavy program like photoshop.. normall the effective 'cool-down' for normal cooling pad is juz 5-8'C.. but zalman, (look at the statistic i posted before) it's 13'5C ler! very effective cooling. 10'c degree already make a lot of different. a 1'c raise in electronic device make a lot of different. zalman! zalman! zalman! |

that zalman when i was researching notebook coolers you can get at LYP for about rm 165, so imagine my shock. i thought there were some cheats at LYP but the vendor at jusco 1u really takes the cake la!
the notepal is good ergonomically, maybe better than the zalman. and cool to the touch. still, anyone know how to mod the fans to run faster? FYI, you can use a charger that ouputs to a USB cable to power the Notepal. so you can run it independent of the laptop batt and the charger is very lightweight. the charger i used was for my bluetooth headset. Added on May 26, 2007, 1:27 pmsaw the Zalman at all IT in S14, definitely much cooler than my Notepal. so i dunno whether to upgrade to it or upgrade my RAM since both are nearly same price? any thoughts? From the cheapo ones to CoolerMaster and Zalman..... alot of choices.
If you have the cash, go for the Zalman.... I prefer it to the coolermaster because you still can use your front panel controls (my headphone, line-in, card reader and volume control is in the front)...... |

Anyone can recommend a good cooling pad for a 13' macbook? Thought of getting the Cooler Master but then I realized that the bottom is just a piece of solid plastic. The 'holes' are at the the screen hinge there.

I'm using a brandless cooler pad with 3 fans which the power supply came from the laptop (via a USB cable). So far it's been nice and quiet. The price is affordable too, RM35.

hmm.. there is no such thing as the ultimate cooler, the best cooler is the best cooler that suits ur laptop specifically, what I meant by that is the laptop's vent system and the cooler's fan system.
U need to know ur lappy's vents and search for cooler that enhances the ventilation, i think i said it few times. Scroll around for more details coz I feel unnecessary to repeat myself over and over again. |

QUOTE(babyrabies @ Jun 26 2007, 12:52 AM) Used to own a s73g, tried all zalman, ninja, coolermaster pads (loan frm friends). My conclusion of the best is.... neither one of them. Found Evercool Magic Fairy and never look back since. Silent and effective, best of all its not even a pad. Its like a small exhaust an that suck out all the hot air thru the ventilation grill. Manage to reduce my system temp by 6c on full load. Give it a try! Forewarn thou hey u use the magic fairy ..huh?planning to get it..does it work????u need straight vent grills to latch this device. Any other type of grill, u're outta luck! Check b4 u buy. |

from this website..n from my opinion,yea..CM's Infinite win Zalman's lo.. will try to look for it le.. it even says lower ur temp by ""17C""..so many... Added on September 2, 2007, 10:23 ami think it oso will got larger cooling area than Zalman o..coz Zalman is using 2 small fan while CM is using a big big fan..n the design is cantik too..! Scroll around for more details coz I feel unnecessary to repeat myself over and over again. well, dats wat i think too. but later on, i decided to change the fan orientation. bottom ventilation will sucks air as usual. n my notepal now oso sucks air. theoretically, like u say, since both sucks air, it will create vacuum = temp rise aite? well, it doesnt. between notebook n cooler, there's a gap. vacuum wont occur, instead it create forces to sucks cool air all around ur notebook n cooler flowing through it n make ur notebook erh, cool. vacuum will only occur if there's completely no gap between notebook bottom ventilation n notebook cooler's fans. there's no diff when i monitor the temp, but, one thing i can feel is dat, my keyboard become less warmer. |

Aiyo spend so much money for the lappie's couple degrees cooler. Your laptop have been designed to take much higher temperature and it have been designed to vent out the much needed heat from the laptop effectively with the builtin fans.
With these laptop cooler , it is only cooling the physical outside of the laptop and help dissipate the heat that is produced by the faster Notebook HD My thinkpad is also much hotter at the bottom but so far 3 years using it without any elevation or fan seems to be no problem. But what do i do is that I used 2 eraser . rubber to stick at the bottom behind of my laptop to elevate it to 45 degrees and this help make my laptop more ergonomic for typing as well as helping it to dissipate the head away from the laptop It helps a lot and it ;s portable. The heat that you feel coming out from laptop keyboard is always there regardless how cool your laptop cooler is because there is a heatsink existed below your keyboard to help dissipate the head from the laptop thru the gaps of your laptop Dont believe, take apart your laptop . Any desktop engineer can tell u that. |

A lot of old Clevo users found out their laptops overheating while/after using cooler were because of that theory or shall I say that specific reason. So it is not recommended for one to do so. Choose the cooler wisely according to ur laptop heat management layout. |

Looking to buy a good notebook cooler, and was wondering if I need one because my fan is at the back of the laptop. I have one but it's smaller than my laptop (Refer to my siggy) and is quite noisy, so I don't use it

QUOTE(teikwing @ Sep 2 2007, 04:45 AM) anyone has tried the latest CM Notepal Infinite? how's its performance compared to Zalman ZM-NC1000? If you wanna see them side by side, can goto Digital Mall in Section 14.The first thing you will note about Zalman is the noise and air flow. Air flow is strong, yet its just silent. Cant hear anything. The bad is that, not sure why Zalman is so small in size, and why dont they extend the ventilation holes over the whole thing. The hottest spot is the GPU which is usually situated at the top but there's no ventilation holes there. So I end up buying Notepal Infinite. Its big, suitable for home usage like Im using now. But most would be more interested in the air flow. If you turn it all the way up (level 3=max), the air flow is pretty good, though not still not as good as Zalman but the noise is noticeable. So let said you want silent operation, set it to level2, in which air flow is respectable yet not really can hear a thing when using it. Im not sure about Zalman, but I still can feel some heat on the palm rest area lor. The notebook cooler works cooling down the bottom part but the upper part still will feel warm. Mayb slightly reduced but not eliminate. Good thing is that its easier on your hand when typing and also lift the lcd up for easier viewing. |

I bought a silver Zalman NC-1000 for my Aspire 5920G and i'm happy with it. Haven't been able to game as much as i had hoped cause i'm running really busy, so I put the settings on medium flow and the fans are barely audible.

I'm currently using DELL 1520. Last month just bought a VIGO NINJA cooler at RM89 at Carrefour. It is stated the speed is 3000rpm which I think is quite fast compared to other cooler available. But after a week using it, I found that the cooler didn't cool down a lot and the temperature is more or less the same without the cooler
Then later I go found out that other cooler such as Cooler Master Infinity and other at ALL IT all have rotating speed @ 2000 rpm only, so my question is, even the VIGO NINJA which is full aluminium and 3000 rpm didn't make such a difference to the temperature of my laptop, then how about others cooler? Are they useful ? (p/s: I've heard that 1520 has a really good heat flow and didn't need a cooler at all. anyone can verify this? I've feel that my fren's ACER with X700 graphic card is hot like hell even with those cheapo cooler, so maybe it is true....) |

Infinite is cheaper than Zalman, so think carefully what you want.
Of course I demo'ed Zalman before deciding to buy Infinite. Few things that made up my mind.. 1. Base must be larger than laptop. Zalman barely covers the whole IIRC, but Infinite does it with ease. 2. Intake is from the rear side, not from bottom as most tend to be. This allowed me to put the laptop cooler on my laps/bed without worrying about overheating. 3. Weight. Its so light that like another forumer said, cheap el stock but I like it cos I do use it on my laps. Zalman has the edge in noise, air flow and design... but I dont need all that. |

zalman nc-1000
been using it for few months n so satisfied with it even after gaming oso don see too significant rise of temperature if ur laptop is bigger, like 15" or 17" den go for nc-2000 la nc-1000 just ngam2 fit for my vostro 1400 same width p/s: i used those rm9.90 before and their performance just drop after 1 or 2 months fan lifetime also lower i think but who cares rite, it's just rm9.90 |

I bought a Taiwan made Vizo Ninja. I skipped Cooler Master Notepal bcoz it blocks my lappy front panel IO and audio jacks plus the metal plate is not flat enough even some ppl may say it's kind of "design" but I don't buy it. The feel of Vizo Ninja aluminium plate looks more solid & cool especially if it keeps inside the air condition room for long hours. 2000rpm fans are silent & it manage to bring down a few degree 'C of my hot lappy. However if I on it for over night downloading I will put an extra cooling fan beside the primary air vent holes to keep it even cooler bu sucking out the hot air in massive way

How bad can a 17" (Inspiron 1720) fit on a Zalman NC-1000? NC-2000 is RM55 more expensive, reaching RM200 already. Anything else that will fit nicely on a 17" and have good performance. More importantly the price of course.

an 17" can't fit on a NC-1000..its way too big..sorry to say, but u have to use the nc2000..lots of ppl based on other forums prefer using zalman's compared to cooler master..but i want to know, how heavy is the nc2000? does anybody know?
Added on June 28, 2008, 11:51 pmoh ya,the efficiency of the cooler depends on where the air vents are in ur laptop..take for example, the m1530..since its fan and air vents are at the bottem, then the zalman is perfect for it since it blows air into the vents..so buy a cooler based on ur laptop design This post has been edited by Wii_hunter: Jun 28 2008, 11:51 PM |

what kinda laptop are u using? im using hp pavilion dv6715 tx... haiya... i can tell u.. the heat is felt at lower left side of the laptop.. my palm is warm lah while typing.. very disturbing... the thing that is hot is the hdd.. bcos i notice the hdd sign below it.. and my hdd can get to 49degree celcius at certain time... other than that.. no heat can be noticed what do u guys suggest? all aluminium cooler (cooler master notepal w2 3 fans) or super fan cooler (cooler master notepal infinite ) all aluminium cooler can absorb the heat but the fans location is at top.. while the heat for my laptop is at the bottom while the super fan cooler is not all aluminium.. haih.. i dunno la... can u guys help me decide? |

my new laptop cooler, please check out the link below
CLICK ME ! 2 operation mode. Normal : uses USB connector. Gives out mild wind which is more than enough for 1-2hour operation High : Plug in the adaptor and the fan will give better airflow, designed for those who runs BT for long hour usage. ![]() AG Laptop cooler under Dell 1420 The whole bottom part including the top left corner which is the CPU heatsink area was cool. Normal laptop cooler only cools by spots because the airflow is not enough. With my laptop cooler, there is no more dead spots, as the air can pass through all areas of the bottom of the laptop. If you require special on spot cooling, customization can be performed to add in additional 40mm 5V Delta fan which blows good air at different spots ! |

I suggest u to use Zalman Cooling Pad. Do use Zalman ZM-NC1000 (for 14" inches lappy) and Zalman ZM-NC2000 (for 15"-17" lappies). Can give heat around 30 degrees celcius during day. But the problem is that we haven't meet the solution to clean its fans..LOL

QUOTE(holeq @ Aug 6 2008, 06:21 PM) I suggest u to use Zalman Cooling Pad. Do use Zalman ZM-NC1000 (for 14" inches lappy) and Zalman ZM-NC2000 (for 15"-17" lappies). Can give heat around 30 degrees celcius during day. But the problem is that we haven't meet the solution to clean its fans..LOL Yes you can actually..... I've open it up and clean it internally. All you have to do is unscrew 10 screws (If I'am not mistaken). All screws are on top (Red circles). See picture : » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Do peel-off the rubber guard carefully without tearing the rubber edge. I've open mine and the adhesive still can be reused again. All other parts inside are straight forward to dissemble like fans and wires. For info. I'am using a modified USB with multi voltage adaptor to crank it-up faster....it's 9V... P/S : Try it with your own risk..! I'am not responsible for anything happen. This post has been edited by gjoey: Jan 15 2009, 11:12 PM |

QUOTE(blueyan @ Jan 15 2009, 11:11 PM) gjoey , hey you can further explain what is multi voltage adaptor and how does it look like ? do you mean multi voltage adaptor power a usb hub , then hook laptop cooler to it ? Actually it is a multi DC voltage selector. You can select 3V, 4.5V, 6V, 7.5V, 9V and 12V. It's like this :» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I bought mine at Giant at about RM14 like that. Cut out the wire and joint it with a USB cable. Make sure you check out the voltage polarity and know which wire is + and -. USB, Red is + and Black is -. Do not use white and green. So, you have to sacrifice the multi DC voltage selector's wire and a USB wire (RM5) since you have to cut both and join them together. Than, you'll have Zalman NC1000 independent USB power supply able to crank the fan to a higher RPM...! Note that standard USB DC voltage is at 5V. So, use your wise decision on what voltage do you feel secure to power-up your Zalman. Good luck...! And as I said earlier, do cover the other USB port with tape so that you would not mistakenly plug-in any device into the non-standard voltage (modified) USB port...!! You have edited your question.... Leave it alone without connecting it to something else. Read back my previous posting. I have edited for a clearer explanation. It is simple. By default, you use your notebook USB power to power-up your Zalman. So, If you power your Zalman using your notebook USB, you can insert your USB thumb drive to other Zalman USB port, and your notebook will detect it. No problem. By my case, I'am using direct DC from Multi DC Voltage Adaptor via modified USB wire. So, overall voltage is now non-standard USB. It's not safe for other USB devices. Even if you plugged-in, you won't have any connection to you notebook...! Unless you wan't to recharge something.....??!? That's why I said, cover the other USB port on Zalman once you mod it.... If your's is like the picture, than yes...No.1 is modified (cut) to make a join to power cable from voltage adaptor. No. 2 is confusing....you are calling it 'connect to USB hub'? A multi DC voltage selector will give you a selection of speeds above or below standard 5v for USB
You can select 3V, 4.5V, 6V, 7.5V, 9V and 12V. |

You should know that cranking electronics device over its' specified voltage would surely risking burning it out..! So try it with your own risk. For me, I've done it for months.....running well, no problem so far. I'am only crank it to full speed when gaming. Other than that, I just let the fan running at lower speed (Zalman do have fan speed dial wheel). |

The result not bad as well, when use high speed fan mode will get lower down around 10 degree. For 15.4 wide screen laptop i recommander get a 17 inch cooler. This post has been edited by canho: Mar 24 2009, 11:43 PM |

Hm... I noticed 1 thing, should we put a 17" laptop on the Zalman NC2000, the air holes from NC2000 only covers 3/4 of our laptop, (the bottom surface lar) and the critical part like GPU coller for 17" laptop usually locate at the very top of it, will that be a prob?

If I'm using 15.4 wide screen LCD laptop should I get Zalman NC 1000 or NC 2000?
And CM infinite performs better or zalman nc1000? Which is recommended for dell studio 15? This post has been edited by xsaintzx: Apr 3 2009, 10:10 PM |

lie you stand fan down, and place your laptop ontop of the turbine cage... dada, DIY laptop fan! you can switch the fan speed according to loads run on laptop that make the rate of heat dissipate varies all the time...
