your next best choice - Affin / RHB 15 months around 4.05% mark

Like some taiko here say, if you put 15m @ 4.05, you still lose some because the balance 9m you need something better to do better than 4.2%

good deal for now if you can let the money sleep for 2 yrs, MBSB 5 years 4.7% but non PIDM.

Ah Hah... OCBC may be anticipates the next raise of OPR soon..? hmm.gif
and OCBC tries to catch some big water fishes now...? biggrin.gif
Better be careful... sweat.gif

Yesterday an Affin bank officer (should be the branch manager) said
the chance of next OPR raise was 50/50.

It's an eFD right? Check your options was it auto renew upon maturity or credit back into account upon maturity.
If it's credited back into account, then you just place another FD with the additional funds when the amount + interest have been credited back into account. Otherwise, just place another FD if you don't wish to touch the existing FD. You cannot "add" more funds into existing FD unless you uplift it.
That one is straight forward FD with no CASA, so yes, effective rate is 3.9% p.a.

thanks for the reply..

Much as I like high rates, it can't overcome the perceived risk involved.
I hear alarm bells ringing.

With the recent increase in OPR, the FD rate s drop from 3.9 to 3.8, why members feel the rate will go up if there wil be another increae in OPR?

I did not say Sept wor.. biggrin.gif
I am just thinking to prepare for the 2nd raise of OPR only.. hmm.gif

If OPR not raise within this year, it is possible that OPR
will raise before the implementation of GST next year.

Newspaper said petrol price may increase RM 0.30 per liter in September.. doh.gif

Welcome back Bro gsc... thumbup.gif
We did not see you for almost a year...

This is what I think:
I think OCBC main target market is their 4.2% for 2 years; but not 3.8% for 1 year.

This time OCBC is purposely lowering their 1 year FD rate from 3.9% to 3.8%,
because OCBC wants to make 4.2% more attractive.

So I think this is one of the symptoms that the OPR should go up again soon..

Narrowing down their target market - bigger fish with longer term.

You have said you are going to keep your FD on short term of 3 (or is it 6 ?) months to prepare for the next hike.

Anyway I would be happy if the next hike is in Sept. rclxms.gif

If I can recall it correctly, this is the first time OCBC offers 2 years FD.
It looks like OCBC enters the casino to catch big fish now.. sweat.gif

Now, here is a gamble.. biggrin.gif
(1) For people who do not think OPR will go up, then can consider to go for OCBC 2 years.
(2) For people who think OPR should go up again soon, then take FD from 3 to 6 months.

So let's assume we are in the casino now, should we put our chips to buy (1) or (2)..? sweat.gif

I just placed, CS said SA is to pay out the interest (every 6 months). I just started it, next time I free I'll go take out RM19 =)
Why you want CASA specifically, money really needed so fast? One-month rolling e-fd at minimum also get 3%. And a lot of those CASA with higher rates got T&C which makes them effectively FD (for example, must maintain balance higher than X ringgit, better I put X ringgit in FD and the rest in CASA).
*
Thanks for your advice. I've decided to place an eFD with cimb cos I've an account(money multiplier) there rather than opening new account with OCBC. If I place eFD today , when is the maturity date and withdrawal date? Is it auto renewed and will there be additional charges?

I placed my 3 months FD with OCBC and it will mature in early
September, the maturity date is before the BN meeting in September... doh.gif

Maybe continue to place another new FD for 3 months or 6 months after
it matures in September.. Very headache

But still needs to see the market news first...sweat.gif

In Jan to April 2014, I have placed FD for 2 yrs in BR getting interest rates of 4.1% to 4.25%. Now, thinking should have placed for 1 yr only. Well ... tongue.gif

So
(3) For people who think OPR should go up again soon, then take FD for max 1 year only. brows.gif
