Also, how come there is no keyhole at the car boot?

I think it's a new design for new upcoming cars - boot keyhole hacking is common here. So without it might be safer.

I'm sure when Gen2 is > 120kmph, the RPM is high enough to release Gen2 power. I'm just waiting 'navigator' and his friends to let me ride on a ECU tuned up Gen2 with a better torque on the low end.

low torque gives u headache (i drove sportcars), default setup is better for normal driving, want torque, floor the pedal

jason, maybe u r right tongue.gif, if ecu problem sure my car won't move

Me another Gen2 users here down south... My ride is still new with only 1802km travel and been on for only 39.xx hours.

I love the car for now and few of the problems that I face is sound issue, locking matters and also high fuel consumptions.

Until now, the SC still could not detect and eliminate the sounds which only occurs if the car is travelling below 40km/h. It don't really sounds good and quite dissapointing.

As for the performance, I really love it and so far, I oredy tapao Civic (dunno Vtec or not, I dun think so), Waja and some modified non-Turbo Wira... All makan nice nice no matter on the straight drag or winding road.

Somehow, unlike the Wiras, the car is quite high albeit the overall car is low and makes cornering a lil' worrying. But once u are used to it, you'll takes corner like a whiz......

Cheers

Hahaha, that i have to agree laugh.gif... The car has quite a high bum as compared with the Wiras and Wajas though... But at least the bootspace is very roomy because of that!

Speaking of Gen2, that car smashed my personal topspeed record (previously 180kph) when i drove close to 190kph when on the way back from Kuantan using the East Coast Expressway... The feeling when the trachometer (is that the correct word?) hit 181kph onwards was like, wow!

yeah, how often and WHERE can i check the balancing and alignment?

just got my own car for like 4 months, still new in everything. recently found out that i should put the gear to N when i'm pressing brake + idle for some time in traffic jam, instead of keeping it at D <.<

haha i always put it on N in traffic jams and waiting for the light to turn green.

i like the fact that the drivetrain is not connected to the tyres and forcing them to move

I got mine second hand 6 months usage 15K km for RM150 works as well as brand new. New ones about RM230 depending on where you ask. Forum was selling 180 on group purchase but dunno whether fake or not seems too cheap to me. The cleaning kit is separate RM70 i think, the box recommends service after 160K km only but i think earlier is better.

Results much more responsive than stock filter, not so choked up anymore, pick up also better.Louder induction sound. Works even better with the large snorkel too. FC remains the same if you drive the same. A worthy upgrade.

Then do this, replace back to stock filter when send for servicing or claiming, kautim. Since the stock filter is only used then, it will remaing always clean so no need to change lor.

I'm planning to get them either next month or asap as long as my pocket are refill again. biggrin.gif

I've too heard from some other users which mentioned that K&N replacement filter no matter they are local or imports... They really improve the responsiveness of their ride. It makes the driver happy. hehe

Full exhaust means everything from extractor, mid until muffler is changed.

The waja airbox is the one found on ALL waja's now irrespective whether the campro or the mitsu engines. Honestly i don't really know why they do it, because those looking for power go straight for open pod with 'anaconda'. The high price is i think the chop shops simply jack up the prices because of demand.

well, i've read alot abt the exhaust at the forum and I'm quite confuse to use which type of extractor. Some say 1-3,2-4 is good, some says 1-4,2-3 is good. I'm really confuse and been reading the same thread again and again to pick up something which I may have left out.

Aniwae, thanx for your answer. I shall go survey for prices once I got the $$. notworthy.gif

hehe...

I do agree on the open pod but i understand open pod dun really perform well during hot weather and also when u're stuck in traffic standstill. Maybe this is why they dun go for this options.

if u do openpod with only full exhaust mod.... dun hope that u got improve pickup but u might get better at higher speed.... coz if u do openpod.. u need to mod few others things..... they quote me got full mod on cam pulley, dunno whether use emanage or unichip..... all together around 3.6k....

Yeap open pods that suck hot air are no good, that's why some use the Mugen airbox or fashion their own box with a CAI at the bumper,i'm sure you know lah performance fellas.

From my reading on the net 1-3,2-4 and 1-4,2-3 produce the same amount of power, the difference is how smooth that power is delivered. 1-4,2-3 like mine produces power over a wider range of RPMs, i get better torque from 2.5K rpm onwards. 1-3,2-4 instead will give a jump in power somewhere along the RPM range.

Think of a 2 cycliner engine, if you want smooth power you fire them one after another (ie. 1-4,2-3). If you want sudden burst of power you fire both cyclinders the same time (ie. 1-3,2-4). So there isn't one which is better than the other, is what you want.

What is the different between wegow and ranspeed?

which one perform better and low FC?

does ranspeed with marco midbox give more fuel economy driving than wegow?

hye guyz, gen-2 owner here... rclxms.gif

gen-2 1.6 h-line auto (black)
august 2005

btw, i'm having a problem with my gen-2 since i first bought the car.. the belt that runs the power steering pump, alternator and all keeps giving out this screeching noise.. like when a belt is worn out..

so, i sent it to proton service centre in penang to have it checked, they found out that the belt tensioner bearing is faulty.. and they changed the whole thing which i had to wait for bout a week for the part to arrive from kl.. after fixing it, they found out that my power steering pump unit and radiator fan motor are also faulty, so i had to wait another week for them to arrive.. cry.gif

everything was ok, for bout 10 days or so.. the noise came back.. the tensioner is the culprit this time.. to add, some new probs..

1) my tail light blinks instead of my signals when i brake while i switch on my signal lights.. rclxub.gif
2) my front bumper just decided to no longer be a part of my car.. it fell off, while i was driving on the highway, not in a rally.. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif
3) the gearbox just won't shift in "D", stuck in final gear and the light on the dash just blinks in "D".. whistling.gif

so, i went to proton again, left my car for a day to have them test drive it.. they called me the next day, saying that everything is ok now.. when i went to pick up my car, the sound is still there.. WHAT IS OK THEN?? vmad.gif

oh yeah, they fixed my tail light, the socket melted.. my front bumper, the flimsy plastic bracket broke, replaced all of them.. gearbox, they reset my ECU, yes, there was a problem, somewhere..

i had to use my car and i was really bz, so i took it anyway.. and now, i'm doin the periodic service and told the proton centre to have their mechanic look at the belt.. and guess what they said..

they told me that they can't do anything bout that prob cos it's common in gen-2s.. so i told them, it's still under warranty, and the problem wasn't solved when i first brought my car to the service centre for my 1000km service.. they still say that they can't do anything bout it, and told me to send somewhere else to repair it.. WTF?? mad.gif mad.gif

are they just trying to avoid me claiming my warranty?? what should i do?? i've already asked them to write me a letter saying that they can't fix the problem, even in my warranty period.. so with that, i hope i can bring this problem to the head office in kl..

any help from u guyz is greatly appreciated..

very true... in this senses where there's so many things are needed to give that lil' burst of torque, I dun think itz really worth it.

Especially in our country where itz basically a tropical weather, no matter how u CAI, the air still hot de... So go in oso hot air.

ahz... now i really understand. thanx mate. Now I know wat to choose. hehe

btw, like wat u said, the burst of power for the 1-3,2-4. Can we arrange for the "burst" at a certain band of rpm?

bro, welcome to this thread.

dun fret over such issues. all u gotta do is make a call to Proton HQ and report them of your encounters. After that, never never never never go back again unless u left ur wallet or handphone there.

Does you still having those problems on your car now? My suggestion to you is to wait for a while more so that when the G2C forum is up, you can go in and have a read on where's a good SC recommended by the PNG members.

Cheers.

I think it can be done but you need to have a custom made exhaust, it's done by adjusting the length of the primary collectors and the secondary collectors. Primary is the pipes connecting the 4 to 2 and secondary 2 to 1.

yeap... i wonder if there's any ready made ones.

From wat i understand, long primaries are good for pickups while long secondary are good for max speed.

iMo, gen2 is best with 6/4 ratio (primary:seconday) due to itz a high torque engine.

if wrong, please correct me.

Yeah to make the best of our engine by right all the mods should be for high end but that makes daily driving very sluggish.

BTW the G2C forum might be in the process moving to a new server where only paid members have access.

You can bank in to theone's account IIANM, this one really no choice wan we can't keep on having a free forum right, bandwidth is expensive and with the village idiots who keep posting nonsense in their chat threads it runs out fast.

if the forum was up u could c wiseman's take on the benefits we get but off hand i can say the benefits are meeting people with the same passion as us for the car and exchanging knowledge on it, group purchase which will save us alot of money and being a registered club im sure they will be sponsors so we all can benefit from it later for example maybe a tresure hunt and many other benefits lah like discounts on products and services...

My Gen2 got bumped today!

It happened when i was on the way to 1U and going to pass the TTDI exit... Suddenly, there was a loud bang and my car jerked violently twice! I parked the car by the roadside and went out to check... Behind me was a Kancil that had a badly damaged front (obviously that car was the one that hit my rear)... However, behind the Kancil were three other cars including a Wira with a completely gone-case front (the main perpetrator as a passing driver told me to take down the Wira no. plate - speeding very fast and couldn't stop in time)...

What amazed me was that the Gen2's rear only kena damage to the boot as well as some scratches and small dents on the rear bumper... Considering that the car got hit twice, the damage sustained was quite minor (the Kancil front was banged in, actually)... Its good to see that Proton actually improved the durability of the Gen2 until it is able to stand such hard impact, thank goodness!

I have to send the car for repairs and make police report tomw though... Have to go through the inconvenience in the coming days! sad.gif

Well, i will be making a police report in a short while... Hmmm, i can consider the Sec. 13 Edar SC as its near both my house and office (i stay in SS2, btw)... But how about outside workshops, pref. PIAM-approved ones?

And yeah, the rear bumper is indeed a tough-nut... The car is still driveable although the boot area has a large dent...

Send it back to SC to do, outside workshops are real snakes eventhough they are on the panel of a billion insurance companies. With SC anything they do is not satisfactory you can complain.

Clienut,
sorry to hear that ur G2 is bumped... Anyway, consoled that the damage is minor and nobody is hurt.

Howver, I believe that your rear bumper "bounced back" to itz original shape after being hit. thatz y u heard the second bang and ur bumper just suffer a few scratches. i may be wrong tho... but then, bumper may have such "character".

cheers.

Thanks a lot mate... I think u have a point there, as the bumper remained as it is with some scratches and misallignment (from the rear, it has come out of position slightly) but the boot was dented... The dent and realignment will take some time to do, that's for sure!

As for cost, i have yet to send the car to the SC because the Sergeant @ PJ Police HQ will only be in on Tuesday... Once this is completed (report has been made though), i should be able to drive to the w/shop for an estimate...

Wash away with water and wax the area , bird dropings are very acidic and eats through paint very fast.

Since you've already made a police report i assume you are making an insurance claim too since being bumped from behind makes you the victim, cost is then the insurance company's problem, make sure it's a good SC or whorkshop.

Very big is no lah, but you can see the size is really extra huge. It helps to suck in more air than the asthmatic one. This large one was put on the first few hundred cars they then changed it because owners complain of loud induction noise and the filter gets dirty fast, so the shrunk it to improve NVH. It's not a modification the large snorkel fits exactly the space in the bonnet. The R3 also uses this snorkel on their car.

misscrazie,
the best bet to get is the Gen2 1.6 model. the FC are lower and better and ease to use. Btw, I'm driving a 1.6 Auto highline model and I've never regretted my choice when I got the car. It even has Auto-Cruise, ya know... rclxms.gif

The 1.3 is higher in FC as alot of reviews from the owners had admitted it. I guess itz to the engine power to the weight ratio that cause it.

Hmmm, as a rough indication, i filled up the car with RM75 worth of fuel last Sat... The full tank resulted in the distance-to-empty level at 440-something km... Now its tuesday and the car has another 1/2 tank of gasoline left... I dunno whether four days usage until 1/2 tank is too much or not...

bro the large snorkel is a unique thing and they are selling it at rm 80 cannot get anything cheaper then that and it would not suprise me if they increase the price for it. Infact got people willing to pay rm 110 the other day when i check on the forum for a second hand one...i argued with them before but they told me to go find myself whether i can get it outside... i went to a part shop and in their catalogue they had the part number and the picture of the same large snorkel together with the tube for rm60 ...i asked the guy to get me this but when he brought it to me it is the same small one we have and the thing is the part number is the same... so confirm cant get anywhere else unless they disclosed their source of it but unfortunately they will not ..hahaha

anyway this set up is ok as i dont think it is that expensive and u will have fun knowing u spend a little and u gain something better for ur engine and ur driving experience... plus this small mods does not void ur warranty and if proton gives u problem u can always go to another service centre as my service centre does not give me any hassle when it comes to warranty claims.

put it this way lah, i give you Rm800 now you try to find and see can get or not. If you tak mau then it's ok lah but for people who mod a bit like me filter and exhaust it much nicer to have better breathing right. You have to see the size difference to really appreciate it.

135hp cams should not be a problem, minus 10-15% drivetrain loses should be ard 115-120 horses on wheels.... but i dont think its just cams on a stock car...

if compared to stock,
thats about 20 horses more on wheel compared to a stock campro engine ohmy.gif

ask them to dyno prove it rclxms.gif

About 118 Hp on wheel, the car is supposed to be RM58 K only which is damn cheap considering the upgrades given to the car.

that car DO NOT come with the cams, only bodykit, springs, plug cables,16 inch rims and tires and slotted disc

ur car, 56K is the highline version rite? so if take a normal version at 52K, thats 5K more, still think that its not that worth it, at the right place those items can be done at the same price

RM58k for a special edition car with additional of 8bhp dun really worth it, IMO. Ours stock oredy 110bhp(on paper).

rather spend RM56k(which I did) and take the money to increase more bhp. Furthermore, I blip these R3 bodykits will be available for <RM1000 in time to come.

Dyno shows stock car for MT is 100 on wheel and 85 only for auto. These parts not only increase power and torque but the responsiveness is much much nicer, less lag when you floor the pedal.

shackks,
not they overated it, just that i think u misunderstood what those figures ment

hp is calculated on engine
BHP is on wheel

proton claim that there is 110HP for the gen2 1.6
minus 10%-15% for manual and 15-15% for auto and u get the estimated BHP

I've got an answer here.

You can replace a normal CD player to ur stock Cassette player. There's an replacement panel to cover up the hole if you're CD player is a 1 DIN unit. It cost around RM60-80 depending on where u are and how close are u with ur installers.

Ain't know abt that, bro. Haven't got the chance to test power with one yet. If got chance, sure try one. biggrin.gif

Cheers.

Hi all GEN2 car owners here.

New to your Forum here but regular to the GEN2CLUB forum.

From what I heard the G2C forum is migrating to a higher bandwidth and storage. And the host is no more sponsoring us. So ...Money matter !!!! sad.gif sad.gif

When they are going to back online...... Don't know but don't hold your breath. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

.................................................................................................................

The Hotbits exhuast system is currently used by some of our members...Gen2Club Performance team. But it has to be to your liking.

This is a) General use or b) Track use.

General use = Go to work and once a while on the H'way. So Better pickup at low RPM with Mid to High RPM = Good pickup. Fuel consumption = OEM. Sound - Sightly louder than orginal.

Track Use = In Sepang Int' Circuit (F1) with good pick up at low BUT EXCELLENT mid to top end RPM. Fuel consumption = SUCKS !! 10 to 15 l/100km. Louder than orginal.

So know what you want to match your driving style.

Hope this helps!!! cool.gif cool.gif

PS:- Please REV your engine for pick up. Campro engine is designed for that kind of driving style.

eng98,
get zenden (much flexible than UR or UTR) it's much better lah.. even for strut bars, you need it to be flexible as well so that when you do a hard-cornering, it will not stress your chassis. if the bar is too hard, you might stress the chassis and resulting in an unaligned chassis.

Haiya, now have to go without the car for a few days... The Gen2 which was hit at the back (see my earlier posting, a page or so back) has been sent to the EON service center for repairs... So its back to being car-less for the next few days... Darn inconvenient!

btw... i think shell new formula really givinf more mileage.. smile.gif
i got full tank for 350km... which is more den petronas....
*
i suggest u go for zenden as UR is not KIND to ur chasis
why u want a lower arm bar? does it work?
the gen2 already has a more or less boxed up shaped lower arm mounts (compared to wira U shaped)
i suggest its better to get rear strut bars, i have them and they are great

good luck

Guys, wanna ask something and I really hope for some useful input.

Have anyone here installed the Auto Timer and the Shift Light.

Not to discussed abt the practicality here but to discuss abt the possibility.

I've got someone telling me that he didn't manage to install it after a few tries.

As our ECU is highly intelligent(read stupiak), therefore, installing these gadgets might cause haywire to it...

wat do u guys think abt this??

and lastly, where the hell can i locate the ECU in my car??

thanks in advance.
cheers.

IMO leave the ECU alone,a new one costs 3000-4000 and it's the smartest ECU in a proton car. The wiring diagram has for now been successfully kept a secret that's why you don't hear of many cars running about with piggybacks or SAFC's or other gadgets. You don't really need a shift light too because the time to shift gear is redline, do it fast enough and the RPM will drop exactly in the 4k zone in any gear.

for turbo timer, yes u can install it. but of course lah, it all depends on who installing it for you.... some people claim this and that but at the end, when something happen, they juct act like they don't know.
regarding the turbo timer, i got friends here in ipoh who already installed it including changing the alarm unit to the one with the robotic sound. and so far nothing bad (touch wood) happened..... yet.

Hmm... what are the Gen2's strengths relative to other cars in its pricerange, exactly? (sorry for not reading all 13 pages on the thread >_>)

aaand... one more question: when I'm going down slopes, if I don't put my foot on the accelerator the gen 2 always switches to a lower gear (I'm using auto lah obviously), is that normal? I find it quite annoying.

well, the closed-end container is mainly used to create a "back-pressured" environment which allows the car to boost more power even tho itz at the end of the combustion process.

Therefore, no matter the car has tech like VTEC or MIVEC, itz still good to use and no harm doing so.

The concept is the same as the Mugen Loop Muffler where it creates the back pressure at the muffler but this at the mid.

cheers.

if high rev got smell and your car is not moving. your car got something wrong.
if u are moving fast and can smell something outside, your aircond vent did not close properly.

according to a veteran user i know of in G2C, he says that outside air seeping into the Gen2 interior is common... The vent cannot closes well.

And, I'm interested at the Waja airbox too, anyone got cheaper sourcing ahz?? interested leh.

hi guys, hope you dont mind me joining in also, just got my car 2 months back and it's been eating up my pocket eversince sad.gif wanna ask you guys out there is it normal for the KM left meter to suddenly drop very rapidly after below 100? because like when at 70, every 100m the thing drop 1km! my last service (5000km) I sent and the Proton guy said the float got something wrong? say only, then never fix... ask to fix, keep quiet...

I'm not into cars a lot, but this K&N air filter and snorkel idea sounds interesting and afforadable, might try it out at the end of this month, start finding from the Sunway auto garage area, hopefully SpeedD got since I get my bike engine oil from there too.

oh ya, what's the use of nitrogen in the tyre?

welcome here, Andy... anyone with a Gen2 is welcome to participate in this thread.

On your encounter of the fuel problem, I do not have such experience but then, since ur car is only 2 months old, do bring it to another SC and check it out. It neva harms to get a second opinion. Watz ur FC?

yeap... the K&N filter does filter particles yet do not have those restriction a normal filter does. Therefore, ur engine breath better with the additional intake of air.

Nitroget gas module are bigger and lighter than our conventional "normal air" module, therefore, using nitrogen in the tyre provides quite a number of benefits:

1) The tyres are light therefore saves in FC.
2) Nitrogen do not build up heat as fast as the "normal air". Tyres with nitrogen will not get heat up after travelling long distance, and this provides a much safer ride.
3) As mentioned, the Nitrogen module is bigger, u do not need to refill your air so often saving time.

the above are just part of the benefits of using nitrogen and i blip there's more.

cheers.

thanks shackk! i know this is a pretty damn n00b question, but don't we want the tyres to heat up? you know, for grip.. well, anything with saving FC sounds like a plan to me, my current FC now RM70 for about 360km (eventhough the KM left meter shows 460 after pump) so what the heck, I'm off to go get me some nitrogen tyres during lunch laugh.gif

oh ya, forgot to mention, I'm using 1.6 auto highline. just checked the snorkel, yep it's pretty darn small! not that I don't like the car but, sometimes even when I floor the pedal to overtake also the DOHC effect dont kick in, end up kena horn by a Kelisa... sweat.gif

thanks shackk! i know this is a pretty damn n00b question, but don't we want the tyres to heat up? you know, for grip.. well, anything with saving FC sounds like a plan to me, my current FC now RM70 for about 360km (eventhough the KM left meter shows 460 after pump)

oh ya, forgot to mention, I'm using 1.6 auto highline. just checked the snorkel, yep it's pretty darn small! not that I don't like the car but, sometimes even when I floor the pedal to overtake also the DOHC effect dont kick in, end up kena horn by a Kelisa... sweat.gif
*
well,
count urself lucky that u're able to get more than that... I'm getting only 315km now for RM72.00.

Yeap, u're rite that we need to heat up the tyre to a certain degree so that the tyre can perform at it best. However, after a long distance of travelling, the tyre can heat up to a dangerous level where it can bust.

You must be driving using "D" only, rite?? If u need to, try downshifting to either "3" or "2" then only you'll feel the kick. Try driving your car from 0km/h using gear "2" then shift upwards accordingly... Then' u'll love ur car more... wink.gif

oh ya, before I go for the nitrogen, wanna you sifus out there lets say I'm not too happy with it for some reason and want to go back to normal air, any specific procedure i need to go through?

no need for any special procedure... just release the nitrogen then replace with ordinary air...

Wah! that's even worse! don't you feel a bit burdened by this? I mean that's not cheap oo, considering my situation also is a killer when I compare with my dad's car getting more mileage. Erm, no, actually I've been driving using L, 2 and 3 since day 1, I tell ya if I had the choice I'd take manual anytime but.........

Thanks for the nitro tip smile.gif

well, i've got used to it now... I see more on performance rather than crawling like a tortoise just to conserve a few drops of extra petrol, u know wat i mean... Coz by fact, our car's a fuel guzzler and unless u have a transplant of other engine, there's no way u can change the fact. biggrin.gif

True true... From experience, my gasoline can last around 4-5 days based on normal driving speed (i.e. not like tortoise!)... But still oklah, at least can last more than half the week...

OKey... if u wanna the auto transmission 2 react faster.. try the waja campro air box.. response is definately faster.. no need 2 wait a second or 2 for the response..

i donno how 2 say this.. but if u get me then it's good larhh.. tongue.gif my fren who works as a service attendance in service centre told me tat the air intake for waja campro goes only 1 cycle for the air into the engine while our gen 2 and neo need to do 2 cycles in order for the air to go to the engine.. i guess k&n drop in for gen2 and waja campro air box really need 2 make up your mind.. biggrin.gif
hope u get wat i'm saying...

btw.. haf u guys (without ABS) try 2 hit the brake to the max and got the tires locked? i mean do they lock?

40km/h I think no ABS activated kua, in my experience I tried hard braking (Gen2) from 105km/h like that and I can hear some sound like "gang gang gang" damn loud and the car doesn't skid. But at 50km/h I did the same thing and the sound don't have but the car don't skid.

Could just be me though, but I was driving that Iswara once and another time in my friend's Sunny, both times about 70km/h only but the feeling is so scary, with the tyre screeching and skid effect sweat.gif

FWD cars how to drift leh???
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drifting_(motorsport)
Pls read ohmy.gif

On the topic of ABS lights, when will it come on?

when the sensors at each wheel is faulty/dirty, when u got not enough brake fluid, when the main module is jammed....
it will not light up if u jam brake, only shrudders (correct spelling ahh) will be felt...

No, that's just skidding, the idea of drifting is to just lose control of the rear and gain control by controlling the front whereas FWD or AWD will go for it at all 4 wheels and cause you to lose control badly. AWD can regain control since got rear wheel power also.

Guys & Gals,

The GEN2 car brakes is rather "soft" so as not to cause wheel lock ...thus....SKIDDING. And the brake pads...BOSCH .. has lots of dust which causes the wheel to be dirty quickly. So there is nothing much that can be done with the OEM braking system. shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

I was rather disappointed with the OEM brakes as they does not stop fast and the brakes becomes "spongy" when push hard. So after checking around...HOPE the following is of use.

If there is a need to "Upgrade" then suggest that the following be done in stages:-

a) Pads ...... Use metallic pads from other manufactures. BOSCH pads are "soft" types. Brands like "FORODO", "Delco", Bendix","EBC", etc. are good.
b) Brake Hose & brake fluid. ..... Use "Stainless Braided Hose" like Pro RS with DOT4 brake fluid.DOT5.1 Not recommended as it is rather corrosive to the rubber seals in the brake system.
c) Brake Pump .... Upgrade to a BIGGER brake pump.
d) Clippers ( Big Lump which houses the Brake Pads ).... MAJOR Upgrade to better clippers like "ENDLESS", " VTTR", "BREMBO", etc. with matching Brake pads.
e) Brake disk rotor...... MAJOR upgrade. See matching disk rotor to the clippers. PS:- Slotted disk are for serious TRACK use which ONLY last a few races. Need to be constantly check as they then to crack !!!! Nice to see though.

IMO the stages a) and b) is sufficient if you travel in town and at H\ways. cool.gif

If for high speed ....... then c) is required. thumbup.gif

For Track then d) and e) is also required... icon_rolleyes.gif

Hope this helps. OEM pads...BOSCH .. cost about RM 180/= for the front pair. Check for equivalent like FORODO, MINTEX, Delco, EBC which cost slightly more. Surely money well spend.

Of course...your TYRES are also important... Another major tropic !!! rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

i think it would be advisable to just do the pads and fluid, maybe the hoses too...
but for the calipers and disc... i am not too keen on the mods

why?
its because cars like the gen2 uses a full bosch system. mixing and matching it may cause more harm than good if not done correctly, the brake balance of the car may be too much in front if u use a two pot with a wrong setup. moreover... HL models with ABS and the sensors may also choose to give problems.

changing the brake pump..... how big u want them to be, what is the maximum pressure our stock lines (not the brake hoses or raided hoses) can take?

however, some companies (forgot which company la) have came out with caliper and disc upgrades for the gen2 which are quite good... these will not disturb the brake balance although its a two pot system in front....

juz go to a secluded and safe area with no cars or people and juz hit ur brakes hard and lock ur tyres.. u will notice a subtle pumping of ur brakes.. that's ur ABS working it's magic.. but the Perdana V6 has a more hard pumping feel of the ABS compared to the Gen-2..

very true.. gen-2 brakes are rather spongy.. but i didn't notice the ABS light blinking or turning on compared to the Perdana V6 (maybe it's juz my car).. btw, for me, gen-2s are easy to let go of its rear end if u yank the handbrake and it's easy to recover too compared to other FWD cars.. enjoyed some 90degree and U-turns with mine.. biggrin.gif

p/s: since it's givin me so much probs, why not create more.. whistling.gif

Hmmm, is it possible to change a G2's existing braking system with that of an ABS-enabled one? But this will obviously mean a huge investment as well as lots of work right?

dont think its possible to add on ABS, but not too sure though... but a few years back there was a mechanical vertions called ABS stopper, dunno now still have or not.
but guys....
i belive the brakes are not too bad compared to many cars, trust me, have driven quite a few cars in the same segment...

if u guys really want to improve.... i suggest u get better brake pads like ferodo (spelling correct ahh) and if got the $$ EBC black or green stuff (but green got to warm up before its effective) , and also do brake bleeding often (errr.... i do it when i fell the brakes a bit spongy lah... sometimes after braking hard a few times already can feel spongy),
and then maybe steel braided hoses, but i guess this is an advanced upgrade...

for brake fluid, i personally use dot 5.1, some ppl may say that it will corrode the brake lines, corrotion is due to moisture and air in the lines, so if u do bleeding often enuf like me, this should not be an issue...
BTW, originally the gen2 uses dot4

haha.. glad u liked it.. still havin headaches with my car..

as for the counter-steer, u need to know the timing of the handbrake, angle of the turn and speed.. a simple turn of the steering of one hand is juz enough to bring the car back into its intended heading while stomping on the accelerator to pull the car out from the drift.. laugh.gif

will dark tint affect the arm and disarm of alarm? my fren is driving the midnite black hline.. he has the same prob.. but all done @ the service centre liao.. but regarding about the sound.. not sure..
as i know when i seated into his car.. the car is quite quiet also.. no rattling sound @ all..

sure u can service ur car @ anywhere inside m'sia.. u can even bring it back to the main SC @ shah alam (if i'm not wrong about tat place).. can also complaint that ur current SC has not enought knowledge.. if it is.. tongue.gif

juz 4 ur info, my fren who works as a service attendance for proton edar SC said proton nowadays is focusing on the car complaints so they are giving a nice service rather than stupid irritating pushing away complaints.

QUOTE(pacer @ Aug 23 2006, 11:13 PM)
FWD cars how to drift leh???
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drifting_(motorsport)
Pls read  ohmy.gif
On the topic of ABS lights, when will it come on?

when the sensors at each wheel is faulty/dirty, when u got not enough brake fluid, when the main module is jammed....
it will not light up if u jam brake, only shrudders (correct spelling ahh) will be felt...
*
There is some debate over whether or not front wheel drive (FWD) vehicles can drift, which is often accompanied by the false notion that anything done to make the rear wheels "slide" automatically qualifies as a drift. In hindsight, FWD cars are not able to carry out a drift as a drift is often controlled by applying power to the rear wheels - which FWDs are inherently unable to do. A simple source for this claim is the restriction D1GP applies, wherein FWDs do not qualify for entrance into the event.

Alright, I wouldnt know that we have G2 club in lowyat.

Since it is , I would like to summarize up my feeling for havng this baby.

Acquired since May 2005, G2 1.6 grey without spoiler

Pro:-
Nice car, good handling
Engine sound nice and perfect, no flaw until now

cons:-
power responsive not so sensitive
max torque 3.5K rpm
Fu*King accesories such as car doors, dashboard, windows and etc.
Should sack all those bad accesories vendor.

Share some of my experience
1. power window failure
2. door lock failure
The above was fixed. , TWICED, lazy to goto SC again, fed up with them and long wait although no customer.

3. Muffler ---- shattering
4. alarm - on and off (wef this month) due to door is not align and the sensor for the door on off on off.
5. air cond not cold - where is the previous PROTON reputation, [everything is not OK except the air cond is cold enough - Iswara & Wira]
6. door hard to open ---> Please learn from toyota
7. Why no carpet
8. The colour of the seats - easily stain

Response to previous
The FC will come down after 15000km, no worry about that, but servicing for 20000km is around RM400+, please bear in mind

welcome,
and sorry to hear about your sorrows owning a gen2

but just wanna point out that some of your problem that keeps me thinking a bit...
1. power window... Proton ma... heehee
2. door lock failure.... maybe due to problem no4. ...
3. muffler shattering.... first time hearing, go back and complain, maybe the rubber mounting
4. doors not alighned.... ususal la. usually ppl will ask their sc to align the doors once a year...
5. air cond not cold... mine is cold... hmmmmm
6. door hard to open.... has been fixed by proton earlier this year... so those with late 2005/2006 no problem already.....
7. no carpet? why? all MUST HAVE CARPET?
8. seats easy stain... yes a problem, change leather seats.... heehee

20K km is abt there la, major service, parts like gearbox oil, coolant, brake fluids etc will cost abt 200+ with labour, and add another 100+ for normal sevice... should be ard there la.

cheers

after coming back from the MME race earlier I took the road heading through Dengkil and Putrajaya and come out at USJ and now my FC is reading even better! take note the road I took isn't highway so I didn't speed, top out also 120km/h

even if it's not accurate, last week 9.9l and today's 9.4l must be some kind of difference at very least! biggrin.gif

termignoni,
you can change SC anywhere and anytime as u wish no matter where u had went to previously... Just dun go to some unauthorised workshop or any bawah pokok bengkel.

As for SC in Penang, I strongly advise u to ask around in the G2C forum...

Cheers.

Andy,
Lemme check it out and let u know on the KNN filter. Will reply ur pm with further info soon.

cheers.

alot says that improving the intake and exhaust will not only improve the perormance but also the FC.

You're rite, must control right leg then only can achieve good FC... But sometime, unknowingly, the right foot is already heavily on the pedal... biggrin.gif

well, maybe u overlook some aspect such as ur muffler layout or wateva that cause it. I noticed that frequent gear changing at 3k gives better mileage to me ride.

I saw it, and everytime entering turn 1 even a Satria would overtake it... nevertheless, I'm still proud of it! eventhough it didn't finish the race either.. lol! I saw the Patco booth outside, it says that the car uses NGV?? MME racing machine use NGV engine ah?

But then some ppl like matt got FC like in the 5.x region, that's AMAZING!

Please beware of this kind of claimed cables which claim to improve performance and is cheaper than stock cables. For everyone's info our stock cables are actually very high grade cables already not joking. R3 in fact have tested the stock cables to give better HP than those cheap ones. Also my mechanic has a tong full of these type of cables in his shop which failed prematurely.

yes, its true, no point of changing the cables, stock is still better, so what if they are better in terms of conductivity, but not change the ignitions system?

the only proven cables i have seen is by NOLOGY....

iridium spark plugs are stable ma, quite a lot ppl using them. try denso IT20, or volker 6VT11, maybe some of then use wrong size (for gen2 u got to use the ones without the washer, some ppl use different model and then take out the wahser and then maybe cause it to become unstable)

but for better power gains try platinum. i am using autolite duble platinum, they are better than iridium. only thing is that iridium is long lasting (with acceptable gains)

I hear from the performance kakis at g2c, iridium plugs are the best that money can buy. All of them run on denso's iridium. Platinum is longer lasting but iridium gives better power. Even the price should say something too, platinum ones are i think 80 bucks for 4? but iridiums are 165-210 for 4.

well, i do agree that the prices also speaks abt the performance of products, hence the phrase, good things no cheap(Disclaimer: i'm not refering to anything mentioned here is no good)

Volker Iridium cost abt RM250/4pcs...

ic.... but have u tried autolite duble platinum? ususally the problem with spark plugs is the wear on the tip and electrod, the duble patinum has platinum on both tip and electrode compared to the normal platinum that has it on the tip only. wear will cause inconsistant spark and this reduce power. the only drawback is u got to change it every 40K km (hopefully that long).
i am using it now and i can say they are really good and value for money.

i know irridium is good and last longer, but how is the performance after lets say 30K km? i have used NGK irridium on my previous car but it seems that after about 20-25K km, the performance seems to drop. not yet try on gen2 though.
the only ones that have been proven is volker (on paper)... how is denso or ngk?

go to Proton Service Centre to ask for it...

Alternatively, you can ask around at chop shop to see if they've got any. you never know, rite.

The MME Gen2 is not NGV powered. Patco is the main sponsor for the team. The Gen2 is running on race-tuned CAMPRO engine with almost everything else stock (Class C rules and regulations).

It has completed almost 40 laps in 2 hours and we expect it to last for 12 hours as it shows very good timing and condition, no overheat issue etc. It is out of sudden gear could not be engage. The retirement of the MME Gen2 is still under probe.

Bro,
y not just adjust the height of the bonnet support at the rubber support at both side??

that wud be easier rite?? Your method is good too, but then, gotta sacrifice estatic.

tot of that b4 and still under experiment.

your snorkel got water dripping hole. Nothing to worry about.

if my setup water can sip in. What is the difference of doing CAI ?

If u complain about water sipping in, might well don't do CAI.

CAI is normally place at the bottom... i dont think water can fight graviti and go all away up ... but the question is have u all tried to rev the car and put ur hand infornt of the snorkel... can feel the thing sucking...quite strong 2 if u rev high especially with large snorkel and knn drop in... so the concern is water can be easily sucked in.... if its like that... when raining heavily what is preventing the water from being sucked in?? i dont think the dripping hole can help....

i think if u do a CAI at the spot light hole, then maybe it could.. especially crossing a flooding area.. but that thing for it to breath like wat haf vexus done.. i don think so it will take a large amount of water in..

IMO,
having that lil' gap between the grill and the bonnet will do that much harm actually...

If u've open the airbox before, the space is rather large to store water(if there's any)....

So all in all, i think worth to go for it...

cheers

actually there is very minimal water getting through. The chrome lips design has some flaw. They should cut off the inner plate that seat near to the snorkel intake. The chrome plate has block almost all of the air intake. Remove the chrome lips is to let in more fresh air into the snorkel intake. The gap i show in the picture was taken in different angle. If u look straight angle, you can't even see the gap. Thus remove the chrome lips is to force in more fresh air during high speed. Cost of CAI is expensive vs FOC DIY remove chrome lips.

If u worry about water sipping through, you may choose not to follow me. U can try CAI. CAI also can force in water through forced air flow vs car speed. The faster you go, the chances of water getting into the airbox is greater.

You try remove it and test it for few days. If u like it, u can do cosmetic make up like what am i doing. U can stick what ever colout of sticker u like.

bro, sorry for the delay. As the bulk purchase needed 5 or more orders to get that price, therefore, we are still waiting for confirmation of 2 persons on their interest.

They are the one still delaying the purchase.

Dun worry abt it... I'll update u on this the moment there's a new status on this, ya. Ain't worth spoiling my reps for RM1xx.00. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

IMO, the fitter must match with additional CAI or a very basic one to feel the effect...

Or else, like me now, dun feel a thing.

this setting cannot lah. Not much fresh air enter in. DO not aspect the hood gap can bring in cool fresh air.. This kind of setup tend to trap more hot air. If your temperature rise up, this setup cannot use.

another easy way is pull the heatshield pipe and screw it on the existing snorkel location.

If that setting also no feel. DO anaconda/tahi lalat

bro ur heat shield not full coverage... i guess direct to the foglights then definately got difference since taking air from outside instead of the hot air in the enjine bay...

yaya, was thinking anakonda/tahi lalat (take out one fodlight) to the heatsheild box (make another hole), dint want to put the hose direct (although ideal) into the airbox... u know la our climate, everywhere flood... hehe...

actually it is full coverage, the back part is covered only for a hole for the hose, but cannot see in pic la.... the side is covered till the battery location, and the bottom part is cut to match the gearbox and wiring harness ( alot of work!!)

edit: btw, anybody got pic to share for ideas?

bro, your heatshield is fine as it is IMO.

Adding another hose from the outside to the area will do oredy. Actually, since you're using drop in, you don't need heatshield. Just tarik the host straight from the foglight or wherever u end it to your airbox. That'll be better, I think.

Now, the hose release air to the engine bay from outside then only suck in by the second hose, u lose the ram effect.

just my 0.0000000000002 cents lar. may be wrong tho.
