Hi there I'm back with a slightly different preference.

1. Preferred Brand : Anything except ASUS, Acer and Apple
2. Budget : <2k
3. Usage : College (business) so word-processing and Internet (strong wi-fi) as well as a clear camera for video calls.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14-inch and below.

Additional request: Long battery-life, backlit keyboard, light and portable since I'll be carrying it and walking A LOT.

Thanks again sifus.  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

Don't think you'll be able to get a notebook with backlit keyboard for your budget unfortunately hmm.gif

Hey experts, I'm not very good at choosing one, would appreciate a genuine opinion for an ultrabook.

1. Preferred Brand : No particular preference
2. Budget : ~3k
3. Usage : Business/on-the-go/general use
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : ~14 inch, ~15.6

Additional request: reasonably good battery life, backlit keyboard, at least 1600x900 resolution, ssd, dedicated gpu)

Thanks in advance.
*
Pretty much this one if need at least HD+ resolution
14"
Lenovo U430T, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT730M + (1600x900; touch)+ 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM2799, 4GB, W8, 2 yrs

*Price in RRP

Can consider this one as well if screen resolution is very important to you:
14"
Dell Inspiron 14 7000, i7-4500U + Intel HD4400 + (1920x1080; Touch) @RM3399[1.99kg], 6GB (soldered), 500GB (5400rpm), W8.1, backlit keyboard, 58Whr, No ODD

Try to look for bro putochip123 and see how much he can offer for this unit, should be able to get close, if not lower than RM3k icon_rolleyes.gif
No SSD and dGPU (not needed if you are not gaming) though laugh.gif

Hi Sifus,

Need your recommendation on notebook based on the following:

1. Preferred Brand: Any mainstream ones would do
2. Budget: <2.5k (will consider up to 3k if significant benefits)
3. Usage: Mostly for work (lots of ms office related usage, normal browsing etc) with movie/tv-series viewing sometimes
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14 inches

Other aspects: Good battery life, Great display (for movies rather than gaming), backlit keyboard & slim/lighweight profile. A beautiful exterior would be a plus.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

These would be good thumbup.gif

**Prices in RRP
Since you love to watch movies, having a FullHD screen would really enhance the experience (assuming you are watching high quality videos la haha laugh.gif)
I would recommend the RM3.4k version of the Inspiron 14 7000, try looking for bro Oscar putochip123, see whether he can get you one within your budget or not brows.gif
Otherwise, go for cheaper variants of the Inspiron 14 7000- also great despite lower resolution

Hi, guys! I quoted this laptop specs from Illegear for RM 4.2k.

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5
Thermal Compound: IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU & GPU (RECOMMENDED)
RAM: 4GB DDR3L RAM 1600MHz - 1 X 4GB
Storage Drive RAID Options: Non-RAID
Primary Drive: 500GB 7200rpm Western Digital Scorpio Black Hard Drive
Secondary Drive: None

Wireless Network Card: Killer™ Wireless-N 1202 - WLAN & Bluetooth 4.0 Combo
Accessories: ILLEGEAR Backpack (Worth RM99)

Are there any laptops that can beat the performance for this price? I really prefer a 17" screen because I'm not used to small screens. Also, anyone got any bad reviews for Illegear that I should be aware of? Thanks, sifus!

Illegear notbeooks and services are good, you don't have to worry too much about it icon_rolleyes.gif

An alternative would be this one:
MSI
GE70-2PE-095MY, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GTX860M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) @RM4299[Dynaudio], 8GB, 1TB (7200rpm) HDD, W8.1, multi-coloured backlid

Is the Lenovo's screen better than those on Dell Inspiron 7000 series?  hmm.gif

Can consider these too:
15.6"
Lenovo Z510, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2399[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs, color: white

Toshiba Satellite L50-A100X/XW, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[Onkyo], 4GB, 750GB, W8SL; 3 years local warranty; colors:silver/white

*Prices in RRP
These are running on Mobile processors- more powerful for your editing needs, but shorter battery life  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Thanks again! You helped me in another thread ^-^

@ Inspiron 7000: Didn't check, because the Inspiron 7000 series is out of my budget XD. But between Inspiron 15R and Lenovo S series, the latter is a clear winner (pun unintended).

Looking into the two recommendations now. A bit of a bummer that most stocks for the Z510 is in white... My headache is that, compared to the S510p, the processor is i5 but the graphic card is better @@.

Which is more important for my purposes (photoshop/video editing/after effects); better processor or graphic card?

your options :

Sony SVF11N13CGP, Celeron N2920 + Intel HD + (1920x1080; touch) + 64GB@RM1699[1.28kg], 2GB, W8.1; color: pink

Dell Inspiron 11 3000, Celeron N2815U + Intel HD + (1366x768; touch)@RM1399[1.43kg]. 4GB, 500GB, W8.1

i would personally prefer the Dell, as it uses latest generation Celeron processors. price is negotiable for Dell only.

Photoshop performance will greatly benefit from, in order : RAM > CPU > GPU
Which is why I recommended the ones with the Mobile Processor icon_rolleyes.gif

As suggested by Raymond sifu~
Can consider the Lenovo ThinkPad edge 11 as well... its widely preferred by companies for its reliability despite being a bit older in terms of tech icon_rolleyes.gif

Where did you heard that Asus is good? laugh.gif
Read here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...us+bad+warranty

Although they don't have 750GB, I would recommend these:
14"
Dell Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm) + (1366x768;touch)@RM2049, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8.1SL, 3-cell

Lenovo Ideapad Flex 14, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT820M +(1366x768; touch) + 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM2299, 4GB (soldered), W8, 2 yrs; colors: black/orange

Mainly because of its msATA SSD/ hybrid HDD drives that will offer faster performances than those with normal HDD icon_rolleyes.gif
*Prices in RRP
*The Vostro has weak Wifi Range
