This is to share my working experience in a so-called "Chinese MNC". Some of the working style and culture really 奇葩 (Weird):

1)All documents, work-related things are in Chinese language. Whatever works you do must be presented in Chinese (Written or Spoken). The only documents i see which is in English is Employee's Handbook and Offer Letter.

2)Wechat but not email is used in work setting. Boss will msg you personally or work groups created in Wechat 24/7. Boss will expect you to report what you do everyday in the Wechat work group so everyone can see.

3)Personal computer is not provided by the company and you are expected to bring your own.

4)You are expected to attend meeting or work during weekends when the normal hours is Mon-Fri. Meeting will only be announced last minute.

5)Schedule meeting time is expected to change at least 3 times. Eg: If the boss tell you meeting is 9am and will be done in an hour. Meeting is likely to be rescheduled to 10am, 11am, 2pm etc and finished in 5pm.

6)Boss most likely to be Chinese from Mainland China who knows nothing about Malaysia but pretends to know everything and says "Malaysia is very much like China..."

7)Exam culture is strong and the results will be tagged to your KPI. Yes, EXAM. This is not school but work. Things that can be tested: Chairman's words in important meetings/various occasions, content of employee orientation, company background, and simply anything else that exam questions can be set upon.

8)Expect to write long chinese karangan frequently. Eg occasions of writing karangan: After attending a conference, after boss sharing some "interesting" posts in wechat, after boss feeling like you should write one.

9)There is endless "流程“ (processes) to run online. Eg: If you want to take leave, at least 4-5 people must approve. In between, your application might be rejected for petty things. The same goes to making claims....Imagine one person take 2 days and some take longer to approve your claims....When you can get back you money?

Last but not least. Forget about Work life balance. As the CEO says: We pay twice other can pay for the best talent, and expect them to produce 3X works!

A communist culture. What would you expect?
Anyway China Chinamen are way more "China-style" than the local "Chinamen".

Btw, are you getting twice the pay from this China MNC?

If you don't want to name and shame, at least post this to glassdoor or something similar where potential employees can read.

US investors are shifting their funds to "China-man" companies, as they feel their every cents invested are well returned by those long-hours & commitment at work by its workforce. T_T

same thing happen in huawei, i often saw huawei job vacancy, and i ask one of my friend and he said people always quit the company after a few months because like TS said there's no work life balance, it will test ur limit, and to think working with japs mnc was hard, but this is the hardest, even they put beds at their table if they have to OT

I am not. Even though I am I would think more than twice before accepting the offer if I knew working there means sacrificing time, job security, family, health, youth, intelligence...If to put them in the Barisan National scale against money, I would say not worth it.

Actually I still working here as all ppl around me said first job should make it at least 2 year if not your resume will look sucks blabla. I get “Exceed expectations” for 2017 KPI when performances review this year , but when ask about salary raise/ promotion , they will only repeat one word -> “Budget” .Actually I could say management level really suck and use most of the company resources as we know thier paid and benefit have huge difference with non management level staff.

I’ll get an offer letter to slap on thier face with surprise while submit resignation letter😂

Lately, had an eye opener of how chinaman company runs a F&B outlet. few branches established in couple of years.

Staffs looks like underpaid but one thing amazed me, their brainwashing of staffs to be dedicated in the work cannot be taken lightly. It's like children going to public school by bus , wakes up at 5.30 and reach school at 6.30 everyday. It's quite known to us that chinese students were drilled since their school days to work hard and nothing will breaks this. It's a regiment or military standards in the chinese world.

The colleague im having, they have worked for 2-4 years now. 6 days work. full day ok.. No one can take off day on sat and sun. it's a peak day.

Few nepalese working there too. one of them told me he is getting tired now.
There's no chair in the workplace to seat and we kept walking up and down serving customers everyday. I worked at 7am till 4pm.

What couldn't break them, i wonder?
How i know the staffs not getting as much as i am, my manager told me this not to reveal my pay to anybody as i get more than them.

What a pity that these fellas were actually trained their guns to commit to such laborous work daily and couldn't break out from their circles of believing that there's actually sunlight or greener grounds elsewhere. Im not sure if these fear factor causes them to anchored to the company and afraid to move out or im getting the same treatment now when manager implant " YOur salary is better than them" , he probably said to anybody who joined them to. sweat.gif That's probably how the Game starts manually. haha.

what do you guys think ? I think the company knows how to play the game well to secure long serving staff just like japs did , but what is the secret to all this thing? Im sure there's also staff turnover but many of those that hold backs and stay loyal to the company is hard to come by these days with low pay and no life.
