Like the chinese saying, " Yat cham chin yat cham forr ". Off course there's a difference. Dahons are made after their research on metals, geometry and gearings. Off course other branded makes akso have their respective researches. On the other hand, those brands that you mentioned latter donb't have this. They just copied the design and used cheaper materials.

It's hard to describe it for a beginner rider as only with riding more that you start to appreciate the value that is paid. Most newbies will say, " Why pay 2.5K for a Dahon with 18 speed as compared to a same spec-ed bike from XDS, Trinx or Java?" Yes, why?, on the spur, we cannot prove nor convince any newbies. But the fact remains that a serious rider who started with those will eventually get the better bike! nod.gif  Why? It's the difference, the characteristics of the bike geometry in tandem with the folding strength and materials.

Many here has known me and I stick to my words. Components and wheelsets can be changed or upgraded later. Start with a good frame. Dahon is very basic in it's specs for cost reasons. I have modded to 27 speed since I used the Dahon Eco C7 (kniown as Vybe C7A now). The components is transferred to the Speed that I am still using now. I have ridden a Dahon Speed for almost 2 years now and even after so many harsh rides, it still rides best. The fold hasn't loosen a bit.

A proof is to check the availability of Dahons on the used market. It's hard to come by.  Even if someone gave up, their Dahons are usually snapped up by their peer riders. Even the Eco C7 is still selling for RM750 after being used for 2 years.

Thanks Etigge,
That am well aware. coming from a MTB rider, my first foldies were XDS 8 speed I think, upon reaching home to try out, my immediate disappointment was the gear (I know the 32,52T size chainring could effect riding). immediately got it back in exchange for a trinx 16 speed.

seeing ppl talking dahon, java (the lesser price one lah...), would agreed the material is better, my concern is the gear.

In layman term, compare the force needed to press leg forward, dahon c7 vs xds afb280 (or any other foldies below RM800 with 7-8 gear), are they the same ?

Pros
The bike is quite light.
suitable for leisure ride
better fold than Ugo
21 Speeds - good for hilly ride

Cons
squeky sound from folding stem - can mitigate
you may fell cheapo steel because light weight
seat post looks light
need to install additional mudguard - can buy the compact version from My Bicycle Shop and install your own

Overall
- Rating 3.5/5
- what i like it about lightweight and compact fold

Hey peeps, i just recently got myself a cheap, used foldie (Garion). It works surprisingly to my liking. I know, plenty of others that would be way better but im still a student so budget is very low xD

Need to ask, anybody know where to get a cheap carrying bag for foldies (20")? Is it okay if instead of carrying the foldie, i just drag it along (using the wheels, not drag the steel body on the floor laugh.gif )? was thinking to save money and just use IKEA bag but that one considered like last option for me la laugh.gif

go to Mike Bicycle shop in FB to grab fake dahon carry bag.. cost you Rm50 only

if you are talking about Ikea Blue Bag, maybe can fit

but if you are talking about Ikea Dimpa bag, you can forget about it because it wont fit.

yeah, that blue ikea bag xD though, the only concern is whether or not the strap will koyak but ill just leave that for desperate measures sweat.gif
anything i should prepare for bike maintenance? i only got basic tools like screwdriver, wrench and a WD-40, doubt it will be enough for proper maintenance laugh.gif

or should i go to shops for maintenance instead?

Targetting Tern/Dahon 7 speed till came across this to what as a beginner very informative for people whom have itch once a while icon_idea.gif

http://handsonbike.blogspot.com/2013/03/gu...dahon-tern.html

I might settle for Tern Link D8. Anyone know nice price for D8, please do not hesitate to PM me the shop as lazy to go shop by shop as phone call does not get you the best price (scare competitors whistling.gif ). Second hand also can consider.

Advance cleaning usually required you to grease. The part you need to grease is the inner part of headset and the cycling thing between your left and right crank..

if you wanna consider tuning the FD and RD also the brake as advanced thing, that can be too..

the rest only basic maintenance, just like you play Tamiya cars...

Frankie,
Their best buy currently is the Dahon C7A at MYR700+ which I think it is the best price in the market, however limited colours.

What I found out, roda link shop and online are of different price. the Dahon C7A is online price and not applicable for shop price.

Their shop price for Tern Link C7, on the other hand think its now just slightly abv 1K.

Already got your foldies for your children or still deciding as most need 4ft 8 inches height(as per spec), else if they are much shorter/younger, might try to look at Java 14 inch X1 rclxub.gif
