Guys, have a question in my mind:

My raleigh ugo punya shifter problematic liao. when lowering gearing it doesnt click into place. for example, from gear 6 i shift up to 4, but the shifter will slide back down all the way to 7. i had to shift all the way up to 1 and then only click by click get down to 4. it has been tightened back at the shop before but sadly it didnt last long and now this problem came back.

this is how the shifter looks like :

google says this is shimano model TX30 Tourney.

i am wondering if i can change the whole shifter assembly to another model instead. i like those EZ shifter aka rapidfire type and this shimano altus m310 shifter caught my eye

also a 7-speed shifter. will it be a direct swap without issue?

Check your derailleur.

There is spring thing which you need to use screwdriver to fine tune

can as long as there is $$$... brows.gif  brows.gif

ok on the seriousnote, your is 7 speed 8speed or 9 speed? as the 7 speed mostly use cog type while some 8 speed is cog or cassette (depend on brand) type and 9 speed is cassette type. then got to get new wheelset that is not so cheap here in bolehland... also check whether your fork and frame can accept bigger wheel or not..
ur bike use caliper or v-brake or disc brake? if v-brake it will be cheaper to change. if caliper brake hen need to get long reach type which is ab it hard to get these day, if disc brake then erm err not sure about the availability bcoz never check..

my oyama use 451 profile wheel with caliper brake, try to change but it cost to much so i stick to 451..
*
Thanks for the detailed info.Mine is the 8speed,the china brand trinx KA2016, not sure what parts they use,the brakes written shimano Vbrake. The original 451 seems strange for me to ride, just a day my rims are bent and the brake rubber already holding while it spins.I need to learn how to tune /adjust it.How you guys make this skinny 451 wheel ride better,by going more slow speed?

QUOTE(H2D @ Sep 2 2014, 12:39 PM)
if u r not tht heavy try lower the pressure a bit...

451 tyres ... most are skinny type...

to use 406 depends on if u wana spend the $$$ n effort n time... just like mbax stated...
*
In the mean time , I will try on a lower pressure.

If I am from PJ how should I go there? Where should I park my car? Or I should ride LRT go there?
First time join the KL CFM. Just register the 14 KM one, scare not fit for the 21KM.  tongue.gif

last time, i drove to jaya lrt station, park the car there and carry my folding into the lrt. exit at masjid jamek and then cycle to dataran.
but i think it is less trouble to actually drive into kl, maybe park at royal selangor club, lake gardens or national mosque, or anywhere in the vicinity then cycle to dataran. but it seems like this weekend got event so expect heavier crowd and lesser parking space.

by the way i have seen ppl actually cycled from PJ to KL and back.

make sure you dont go lower than the minimum range. check the side wall of your tyre and usually there will be a marking on the min-max air pressure. start with in middle of the range and test ride.

There's a separate event that will run in parallel with car free day, called FIT.my http://www.fit.my/

I've cycled from Taman Jaya LRT once to go to car free day, via the Federal Highway motorbike lane, but rode LRT back co's i dunno the way back lol
The motorbike lane ends just after Midvalley and joins to Syed Putra road which is quite dangerous, there's another way via Brickfields but i dunno that route .. maybe will try it next time

GOING:
you can exit from motor lane just before menara TM, then ride thru jalan pantai towards bangsar and head on straight towards KTM old railway station and from there towards national mosque and dataran.. but that part also main road abit busy. alternatively, exit after midvalley, ride on syed putra a short distance and cut into brickfields immediately. from brickfield will lead u to old KTM station. however if i were you, i would ride on syed putra all the way. at least on Syed putra, the left shoulder of the road has very wide margin, although lotsa cars, but it is safe.

COMING BACK:
try not to use syed putra this time. ride back to old railway station, to bangsar, jalan pantai and cut thru to PJ via UM. alternatively ride towards brickfields and from there ride towards midvalley on contra lane on syed putra (short distance only) then you can enter motorcycle lane heading back tp pj direction from midvalley. but anyway the best and fastest way is to take the lrt lah!

Hope to see you there.. Then likely I like use LRT too, exit at masjid jamek and ride to Dataran. From masjid jamek to Dataran should be safe right! I register for 14km. Try try first. Haha

Using Foldie I might not that confident yet to cycle all the way to Dataran.
Bro I am thinking ur bike problem might not be due to the fine tune. You describe that you shifter just dun want to fix at certain number when shift down right. Like the Gigi didn't really bite at the level. So it might be the shifter problem. Just my opinion. I might be wrong. But if we meet during the KL CFM, I can fine tune for you if it is the fine tune problem. thumbup.gif

Nope, not fine tune issue, is the shifter issue.

If it is the shifter, then need to change shifter lo. But whether every shifter is the same with each other or not. I not sure. No experience.

rm85 including shipping from UK. bought on ebay.

while scouting on aliexpress, i noticed that there are freewheel 7-speed cassetes 11t-30t. i am so tempted to order one as well. stock ugo cassete are 13t-28t, making it not big enuf to climb hills nor small enough to cruise at top speed on par with other foldies with 11t. but i dunno if it will be a direct swap. anyone has any idea?

RM85, not cheap eh, or derailleur + shifter? hmm.gif

Yours are cassettes type?
From what I read in china forum, they usually go for 34t to climb hill.. Only SunRace cassette has that IIANM.

1. nope. just the shifter. because the thing i am buying is rare stuff. 7-speed rapidfire shifter wor.... if 8-speed and above, can get locally cheap cheap for less than rm50.

2. nope, i wrote cassete because easy to refer to the cogset on my ugo. actually should say freewheel la...

3. 34t imma afraid too large takut the stock RD couldnt shift to that size. then later gotta change RD some more... dowan spend too much on mods liao, if i want better climbing ability i would buy an MTB instead.

Got for my kids a Trink KA2016 , 2x8 gear. need sifu enlighthen,

1. Can I add additional front chain ring without changing whole or part set.
2. Is it possible to change both gear shifter to another brand or same brand(diff.model) and retain all others.

Reason

1. Additional chain ring is to give more easy climb
2. current gear shifter, must admit its a bit hard/tough to change gear even myself, leave along my daughter.

Thanks.

i don't own this trinx model, but based on my observation,
u could,...

1. find out the BCD of the chainring,..
http://guides.wiggle.co.uk/chainrings-buying-guide/
u might be able to get a 38T or lower?? to replace the 42T existing one..
plenty of these in taobao..

or u could replace the freewheel to another 8 speed with 28T.
check the capacity of the RD first.

2. is the shimano claris shifter so bad?? is it using claris??
yes it can be changed...
