Summary:
With 16 inch wheels, total bike weight of 8.5 kg, gear inches of 26 to 80 gear inches, I will have an ideal compact foldable bicycle that I can use to ride to work, take on outstation tours, even take inside hotel rooms if I can carry it in a large enough bag. Which means I can even take it into tour buses or ferries or small boats to cross rivers. This can also mean that the small compact bike can be packed into a luggage bag for checking into the airplane for overseas travel.

Now to find this elusive bike is my mission....  rclxm9.gif

budgee budgee, so have you found your elusive bike? I like your elusive bike. I want one too.

Care to share? If not, would you recommend the model which you think is the closes to your elusive bike? rclxms.gif

smile.gif  my elusive bike?
What is a good foldable bike for me?    It's just my own opinion, so you are free to disagree.
And Why did I choose it?

*
Actually about a week ago, I've decided on Brompton. Checked price based on the price list during the launch few mths back, thought it will cost about RM5800 with the specs I want.

Then I checked with the 2 shop that has Brompton, only realise you need to wait 4 mths if you want to custom spec it. If I want it immediately, need to just get whatever spec they have.

They actually have one very close to what I want, but its priced at RM6890!!! That's RM1k extra from the price list just a few mths back.

Because of that, I start searching again, which is why I was very curious of what your elusive bike is. Mana tahu, back to Brompton.... sweat.gif

Anyway, thanks for confirming my months of research of which folding bike to get. notworthy.gif

yep all folding bikes have their pros and cons
buy something that will fit ur need
below is my opinion based on what i've tried

tern verge p20 = quality parts , fast (nice hill climb) & compact fold but ride is a bit upright due to tall handle-post ( wanted eclipse p18 there's space constrains - 3 bikes = 1 small myvi sad.gif )

jetstream = best hentam saja bike (can go anywhere) suspension really nice .. less vibration on stony roads .. not that fast and only 1 colour

dash p18 = fast (nice hill climb) feels like full size road bike (best) but non compact fold

brompton M6L= nice cilok bike ( maneuver in small & tight places like cars in traffic ) small & compact fold but not fast (need strong legs to climb) .. very expensive can buy 2 of the above bikes for a price of brompton. Hate the pentaclip thingy on the seatpost

pink bike = er nevermind

There really isn't a perfect folding bike out there, is there?

You have invested like what 15k there, still there is not one that can fit all your needs.

This would be close to perfect folding bike for me.

Inspired by budgee, it is the titanium version, at 10.7kg, its not light enough, but its the lightest B.

Gear inches should be at 36" - 107". Should be fast enough.

The damage, direct conversion is about 8.5k, if order from Malaysia, my guess should be close to 10k. sweat.gif

titanium wor.. confirm expensive la... hahaha.. the B can be lighter when you change some parts to titanium like screw, nuts and bolt. Change the seat, remove mudgard, titanium pedal.. lol..

but why u want light?
*
Light easier to carry lor. Main question is whether it's worth to spent so much to shed just some weight. This video explains it well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9RoAOTxlpM

haha.. if lady, I understand la..

But again, how frequent you going to carry? Up and down the stairs? Carry up to 17th floor via staircase?

If jus carry from the floor up to car boot, i think no need a titanium la.. haha..

I see some B owners prefer to roll than carry..
*
Haha, just day dreaming, won't actually get a titanium. I'm still trying to justify a Brompton. tongue.gif

I want to avoid first getting a sub RM1k folding bike, and then a fast RM3-4k Dahon/Tern, and then still not satisfied, finally only a B can satisfy my needs.

Why don't I just jump into a B straight away... tongue.gif

Got myself and wife XDS AFB 270 yesterday, with a nice front-load baby seat on my one. Easy to remove the seat for folding. Tried riding a bit, handlebar really quite twitchy compared to old bike. Can get used to though, I think. In any case, first foldie!
*
Hi,

Can you share how your "nice front-load baby seat" on your XDS looks like? Very curious.

Thanks.

Anyone know where I can find Dahon Curve or any Dahon 16" Folding Bike?

I understand from my survey that it's quite rare now. So really appreciate it if anyone encounter it could let me know.

Thank you!

The Dahon Jifo 16 inch bike.  Another superb small wheeler with light weight, 9.2 kg.  cheap to buy too!

http://momentummag.com/gear/bikes/dahon-ji...ng-bike-review/

http://tailim.blogspot.com/2013/12/china-t...nt-wait-to.html

tai lim may bought his in china

http://tailim.blogspot.com/2013/12/china-t...of-cycling.html

its a good foldie, for town use if can get one.  its not really for longer distances as the wheel base is too short, do check out this as it affects stability and will be less comfortable.

For a comparison, do check out the brompton's wheelbase length.
*
Interesting, small and lightweight. If only its easily available in Malaysia.

Never know about the significance of wheel base. Will definitely check it out.

I think I have finally decided which folding bike to get: Dahon Curve D7.

Now where can I find one easily? Seems unlikely I will be able to find it in Malaysia.

I can't read Chinese so Taobao is out of the question. Anyway, I went to the site, search Dahon Curve D7, no result.

From Thailand or Singapore? No kaki there to help. I wonder if they can ship to Malaysia? hmm.gif

taobao use google translate lah.. then find agent in the service noticeboard...
*
Easier said than done.

I tried, its not easy at all. Not all chinese words are translated, and I don't see "agent" or "service noticeboard".

There's already risks involved when buying it online, the risk is even higher when you're buying online in a language you don't understand. sweat.gif

But I've searched for Dahon Curve D7 in taobao, no results.
