QUOTE(cfa28 @ Nov 7 2014, 04:14 PM) Bro, did you read my lastest credit card showdown? If yes, then I must be very bad in explaining Enrich Miles, hahaha.Tell you what, since you took the trouble to explain to me the Basel 3 Bank credit thingy, I shall now try to explain to you about Enrich Miles for Maybank 2 Premier AMEX Reserve versus Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX Plat/Gold. Both the Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX Plat/Gold and Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX RESERVE - you will earn 5X Treats Points for every Ringgit Spend locally or overseas. For Maybankard 2 Cards Platinum and Gold, to redeem 1000 Enrich Miles you need 7000TP or in orther words, you need to spend RM1400 to get 7000TP (or 1 EM = RM1.40 spent). For Maybank 2 CArds Premier AMEX RESERVE, to redeem 1000 Enrich Miles you need 4500TP or in other words, spend RM900 you get 4500TP (or 1EM = RM0.90 spent) A. Say you spend RM62K with the Maybankard 2 AMEX Plat and Gold, you will earn 310,000 TP which can be converted to 44000 Enrich Miles (must convert EM in 1000 basis). B. Say you spend RM62K with the Maybankard 2 AMEX RESERVE, you will also earn 310,000 TP but you can redeem 68,000 Enrich Miles! To redeem Enrich Miles for a return ticket on Business Class to Melbourne with MAS, we need 68K Enrich Miles. So in above example, for the same spending, the Maybankard 2 Cards won't earn you enough Enrich Miles to redeem for a return Business Class ticket to Melbourne BUT the AMEX RESERVE can. Bro gen,-x, u have explained well. Just that since I don't travel much and don't even have enrich membership. It's alien to me.
In your example, if I spent RM62K using OCBC with 1% CB, it's clear cut, I get RM620 If I use the AMEX 2 CARD, using get 5x RP which is equivalent to 2% in cash vouchers. I get RM1,240 But if I convert into Enrich for Biz Class Return, how much in cash savings is that for peak travel and non peak travel. U also mentioned, for families, better to buy economy class and then use the enrich to upgrade to biz class. Again, how much savings is that in terms of hard cash. For non seasoned travelers, enrich is a bit alien. This post has been edited by cfa28: Nov 8 2014, 03:48 AM |

Hello all!
I just got my maybank 2 premier cards! 1 question; My wife accumulated a number of treatpoints using the maybank 2 gold cards and i'm looking to cancel it soon as i also got her the premier supplementary cards. My question is, after i cancel her gold cards, what happens to her treatpoints? can i use it to convert to enrich miles using her premier rates (4500TP=1000EM)? Few months ago, I canceled my platinum card and the officer at the maybank card center midvalley said that i'll have to use the treatpoints asap as they will also be cancelled. is this true? |

Unless you book during special promo. 3. If you dig through gen-x blog, I think in some situation it work out to be 20+% rebate. I recently calculated my intended booking and its about 10+% rebate redeeming a non promo business class seat. The whole point is that I would not have thought of travelling in business class I.e. forking out thousands or even tens of thousand for one of these seat but with the conversion from cc (sacrificing cash rebate), we are able to do so. |

Bro, if you had read my article, I showed for RM62K spending, can redeem 1 return Business Class tickets to Melbourne saving one about RM4-5K versus OCBC and MBB 2 AMEX RM620 and RM1240 respectively. In your example, if I spent RM62K using OCBC with 1% CB, it's clear cut, I get RM620 If I use the AMEX 2 CARD, using get 5x RP which is equivalent to 2% in cash vouchers. U also mentioned, for families, better to buy economy class and then use the enrich to upgrade to biz class. Again, how much savings is that in terms of hard cash. For non seasoned travelers, enrich is a bit alien. Bro, I did mention several times in my articles that it is usually not worth while to redeem for Economy tickets but did not specifically mention for family better to buy economy and then upgrade. You see, in my article A Little Bit Of This and A Little Bit Of That Vol.1, Chapter V, the tickets I upgraded for my sister and son was because they flew from JFK, New York where they flew with American Airlines to Paris and then took MAS to KL. For example my son's case, a one way ticket booked with MAS JFK to KL cost about USD1K . I.e. JFK/CDG on AA (Code Share) and CDG/KUL on MAS. So I upgraded him to Business Class from CDG to KL only and cost me about USD40. Now, if he had bought a one way ticket with American Airlines to Paris and I redeem in full the Paris to KL ticket, the AA ticket cost USD2K!!! Go figure. So I save USD1K!!! Same thing for my sister case's, her return ticket JFK/KUL purchase with MAS Online (where AA Code Shared to Paris) cost about USD1.8K. I upgraded her return on Business Class Paris/KUL only. In addition to the 3 upgrades mentioned above, I also redeem for my parents Business Class KL/Paris and then London/KL. And I told my son to be their tour guide since he went holidaying in Europe early this year and knows how to take the train from Paris to London. So I redeem a Business Class ticket for him to accompany my parents from London back to KL. To Paris, I booked my parent same flight with my sister. My son flew to Paris on Economy because I ran out of Enrich Miles, hahaha. And then last minute I asked my daughter if she wanted to go to Paris and she said ok - it's a reward for her as she was a recipient of a scholarship and that saved me lots of RM. But I got no more Enrich Miles, hahahaha. So bought her return on Economy (about RM2.7K). But a week or two before she flew back alone, I managed to earn another 40K Enrich Miles (must be paying from their hotel bills in Europe plus my other expenses) and upgraded my daughter flight from Paris to KL because I thought it would be more relaxing as she was scheduled to fly to Melbourne the same day she arrives in KL. Now, how much savings in cold cash- not much, hahaha. You can fly on Promo Economy tickets and still reach your destination. This is because we still need to pay for taxes and surcharges when redeeming for Business Class tickets which may be just a little bit below the price of an Economy Class ticket. In my case, the benefit of the Maybank 2 Premier/Visa Infinite are that they earn me enough Enrich Miles very fast, thus giving me and my family members the opportunity to fly on Business Class which I will never ever use my own money to pay for the full fare. And I can tell you, Business Class to Europe is very relaxing That is why I mentioned in my latest credit card showdown summary, for those who do not foresee themselves flying in "Business Class" or the need to enter airport lounges AND only need the Treats Points to redeem for cash vouchers, the only card they need is Maybankard 2 Cards QUOTE(zeronuker @ Nov 8 2014, 08:15 AM) Hello all! You cannot transfer your wife TP from MBB 2 Cards to your new Maybank 2 Cards Premier account because of the Enrich Miles conversion. So it is true that the TP will be forfeited. I notice that in MB card center, we can redeem 25000TP for a RM105 Aeon Big gift cards which translate into 2.1% extra cashback from the usual 2.0% haha And Sir, I would like to point out that your calculation in ur blog for TP is not equivalent to 2.5% anymore since Maybank has change the TP from 10,000 to 12,500 as per mentioned many times in ur blog. It has confuse me at the beginning when I am new to ur blog as I cannot calculate how to get the extra 0.5% from the TP. |

QUOTE(kinabalu @ Nov 8 2014, 10:32 AM) Sir, hahaha, that time you new to my blog and never see date when the article was published, But all my recent articles since middle of 2013 (including Effective Cash Back of Credit Cards published in October 2013) will show 2% equivalent cash back for Maybankard 2 Cards and Maybank 2 Cards Premier. I also don't know when you last read my Maybankard 2 Cards Review because I did update in August 2013 to state cash back is now 2%.that means for MBB2 card, all we do is redeem vouchers which will get the best bang out of a buck right? Yes, you are right bro, on the spot redemption at Maybankard Centres or at Merchants may give you higher than 2% equivalent cash back when redeeming for cash vouchers. I just found out that Visa Infinite Asia Pac card holders have a free offer to upgrade to HHonors Gold. This includes the Maybank 2 Premier cards.
http://www.visainfinitecard.com/en/possibi...programs/hh.jsp So I called the Visa Concierge number in Malaysia: https://www.visa-asia.com/premium/infinite/...nes/index.shtml and signed myself up. I was already on my way to HHonors Gold but free is free. The nice man on the phone took my details and stated that the status would be upgraded and confirmed by Hilton themselves within 10 business days. If you don't have Hilton HHonors yet best to sign up first before calling https://secure3.hilton.com/en/hh/customer/j...joinHHonors.htm |

QUOTE(tishaban @ Nov 8 2014, 03:44 PM) Nice. I've been SPG Gold for many years, never really paid attention to Hilton HHonors until my recent trip when the Westin was full May I know generally for these hotel cards like SPG or Hilton, what specifically are the benefits? I mean, isn't it better to not limit our selection to hotels within the group so that we can explore more hotels? From what I understand, the benefits are free upgrade to better rooms (worth it?) and also collect points? For points collection, how much "discount" does it translate into? Thanks! |

I dont limit myself to Hilton or SPG hotels when I travel. When I travel, I stay as I please. There's no harm in collecting points. Just so happen that when I travel, if Hilton or SPG are the better choice, I'll stay there and accumulate points or use them to pay for the rooms (per night). I think, to date, I have HHonors, SPG, VOILA, Ritz Carlton Rewards, Hyatt Gold, IHG, etc. Some hotels can even earn frequent flyer miles too. Thanks! I get discounts at all hotels either way . |

There are certain benefits that are useful, for example SPG Gold has 4pm checkout and free wifi, it's been pretty consistent across the board when I asked for it for the past few years. The room upgrade isn't worth it when I'm staying alone and going for work, definitely worth it when I'm going for vacation. When I'm traveling on my own and paying my own $$$ then I'll go for the cheapest available of course. When the company is paying for my hotels then I stick to SPG except this next upcoming trip when the Westin is full. During certain offers I'm able to get up to 10-12k SPG points for just a one week stay, that's 3-4 free nights at a Category 2 hotel. Worth it IMO. So in short look at who's paying your hotel bills |
