Hi All TV box experts~

I am looking for an Android TV box with below Criteria, hopefully can get some suggestion here:
1. Must able to watch/play movie file from external HDD/USB.
2. Must have preinstalled/preconfigured TV channel (the more the better).
3. Chinese/English interface is OK.
4. Price below/around RM400

Thanks!

Hi, due to criteria 2, your best bet for suggestions would actually be the garage section and directly deal with sellers who offer pre-installed apks with TV channels subscription packages.

If removing criteria 2, what would be your recommendation?

Oh no!
That criterion is extremely impt.
Unless u already know androids, boxes and have the knowledge and expertise.
If newbie, u will need help to pre install, maintain and add new stuff.
These boxes are software driven, not like axtro or dvd boxes that are hardware driven.

Some of us here can deal with any new android box or phone or tablet.
But that took time, patience, curiosity and practice. biggrin.gif

Then that is too bad...

I think you probably need to up your budget a bit to around 450 to 490 to get a good android box

if u read this thread in full, u will find recommendations by various people.

some models may be old, not relevant anymore but do take note of the brands, check the current models.

BUT... do pay attention to what poor things users say about what they have bought.

there are traps u can walk into unknowingly if u r new to this kind of device incl no help to update firmwares.

if u read this thread in full, then ask questions in sellers' threads, read what other users say, u may come to a decision quickly. however, if the brand/model u have in mind is not discussed much, it means it is not that popular here.

4. Price below/around RM400

1. is easy, almost all of them can do. only diff is some can handle hd audio, some cannot.
3. only china made devices have additional chinese interface besides english.
4. rm400 today is not the same as 1 yr ago due to weak rm; that price will get u the lower grade ones - older chip, older os, small memory. such a device, i think it is ok as entry level to learn, use basic apps... but u might soon run into memory issues quickly if u learn to use it well.

Ah, the sifus have spoken.. As they've mentioned, try to up your budget a bit more, if the box or brand you are deciding on doesn't have much personal reviews from current or past users, you are much better off either waiting for reviews, pulling the trigger & come leave reviews for everyone ( notworthy.gif) or simply getting a tried & tested box. As for your 1st criteria, be careful as not all .mkv files are created equal. Then there's BDrip.iso, H.265, BDMV Dumps, etc.. Welcome.. biggrin.gif

Edit: you would have noticed by now that no particular box has been recommended. This is mainly cuz folks here use different boxes & prefer potential buyers to do some homework first, come up with a particular box or even 3 they are interested in, then advice or recommendations are given. Not that we are being cruel or anything.

"smooth"...

**
2mbps - bare basics, simple sd streams.
5mbps - all sd streams, some hd streams possible
10mbps - almost all streams, incl hd
>30mbps - all streams, incl hd

** assuming:
.. yr broadband speed is stable, at or close to max, and unthrottled, no wifi congestion (if using wifi)
.. the streams are smooth, i.e. good links, good seeds, no geoblocks, no isp throttling

To be honest bro. I've gone down this path and I find the live football you get from android boxes are not gonna be too "smooth" or either at critical moment, it may give you problem. I've experienced that when i tried to watch an important match.

I've subbed to IPTVs and used apps, but at the end of the day because I wanted to have a top quality experience, I went back to subbing Astro for the sports. Having said that, for all other aspects such as watching movies, anime, series etc, my Himedia Q16 is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me after smartphone. Trust me, once you owned an android box or similar device, you can never live without one. Cheers bro!

this is a true and fair statement.

we have seen good live sports stuff at:

kodi iptv stalker - good live soccer channels, it eventually paid iptv.
kodi phoenix tv - good live epl links, now no more.
navi-x - lots of world cup 2014 channels but none of them worked 100%.
tvapp - a couple of live sports channels - went paid iptv.

popular live sports are big $$$, hard to get free telecasts. may get temp but will no last.

the only one that is more permanent but has only selected matches/cups are found in china cctv5+hd. china is less restrictive about blocking their cctv channels. cctv channels incl cctv5+ hd can easily be obtained.
