Yes, it might. Myvi vs BMW... Both get you from point A to Point B and yet, the average BMW handles better than the former.

QUOTE(nuke13 @ Nov 2 2015, 06:10 PM)
I think it is RAM problem. My internet is 10mbps. Should be no problem to stream. I can stream Youtube with no problem using the box. But in Kodi it always buffering. I think 1GB RAM is not enough to run android kitkat and kodi.

BTW, what's your internet speed? I read 4mbps should be enough to stream HD content.

Good thing no cheap.... Cheap thing no good... Minix boxes overpriced? Probably, but its good. Genesis addon sometimes has 2 types of HD, one just marked "HD" and another marked as "1080p". VIP10 user here and I can consistently stream the marked 1080p content with zero buffering. Smooth playback from start to finish. Same thing with playing up to 4GB torrent files with the Pulsar addon (lazy or no time to download first). Only issue would be if the Pulsar addon gets overloaded and crashes, forcing me to stop and resume playback from the last position. But that's a documented issue with the Pulsar addon.

Yup, the Neo X8-H Plus. I haven't researched but it's been out for awhile and Minix have been silent on a hardware update. Which is good as then they can focus more on improving their current product line. How about newly released boxes with upgraded hardware?

Well, I guess that ruled out the internet speed issue. I guess it really is the box problem/limitation. I have astro now for my main viewing pleasure. I use kodi just when there is nothing to watch on Astro or when Astro is down because of raining (sigh). But, when kodi keeps buffering then I turned to streaming using my laptop which is the last resort. But at least it is more buffering free.

Because of that, I'm not willing to spend big money on android box, for now. It is just not my main source of entertainment yet.

Understandably so. Most who invest in android boxes with decent configurations & setups tend not to be interested in an Astro subscription. As a result of my configuration, I haven't had to use Astro's subscription for over 3 years, saved a lot of cash there and thus the cost of the box. Unifi subscription came with free Hypptv mega pack. So regular TV needs are satisfied there. You could try hooking up the laptop to the TV since it offers better performance.

Thanks for your feedback. I guess I can cough out I bit more cash for a more reliable box for future investment. I can't give up Astro yet since my wife and kids are enjoying Astro malay channels which I'm unable to find in Kodi. My laptop is an old budget one that can't even run kodi. Streaming online free contents did not give HD quality.

Well, is there any one wants to let go his minix neo x8 or where can I get the cheapest one new or used? the cheapest I can find is RM500+.

You are welcome. If you mostly require KODI and willing to invest more technical know-how, you could consider the Raspberry PI 2 running KODI with OpenElec. It's fast, much cheaper and a makes a pretty decent DIY media center. Alternatively, browse around the garage section or private sales websites like mudah etc or hang around Lazada (discount codes) for deals.

I'm on Time 10mbps.
Please don't get me wrong here, I got feeling it is not your device buffering problem.
To my experience if your internal storage is running out of space, Kodi will give you problem too.

Which my device was out storage space back in a week ago and Kodi seem to have alot problem on playing the video and auto-shut off from time to time, but after I reset it and reinstall Kodi all my app behave as it should be.

Cheers.

Due to the current RM exchange, the Raspberry Pi 2 B base model starts off under RM160, extra peripherals naturally costs extra. But yeah, a decent package will cost under RM300. IMO, it's a better buy than an underpowered android box with poorly optimised OS & no support. The RPI community is huge, with tutorials & tips on maximizing it's potential.

I'm using a Himedia Q1 with unifi VIP10 internet but the Kodi experience was very disappointing. Is it because the device? My box has 8GB internal storage and 1GB RAM. Is it not enough? I'm using it to watch English TV Series and movies only on Kodi. Mostly in HD 720p only. But, if possible 1080p would be nice.

himedia q1 as in this?
http://www.lelong.com.my/himedia-q1-quad-c...7-01-Sale-I.htm

if yes...

.. this model is quite new.
.. 1gb/8gb is good enough if you do not put too many apps and not too many addons in kodi.
.. it may have been pre-installed with too many things, so as you add more, cache builds up, u can have a memory problem
.. u can check it at android device settings (launcher page), see which app taken what memory, what is left for use.
.. 10mbps is fine, i had it before; best to use ethernet and not wifi

.. kodi - this model works on a hisilicon chipset, may need adjustment - go to kodi-settings (set to expert level)-video-acceleration. play with select/unselect libstagefright and hardware acceleration - see if one combination works better.
.. also as suggested, try removing kodi clean - all cache, files and app, reinstall from scratch, may work.

i have an older model 1g/4gb. kodi works fine until i had too many things in it. since kodi is big and can take up to 1.5gb in total, i no longer use kodi on this one, use it for all other apps. in contrast, on a 2gb/16gb device, u can dump anything on it, no worry about memory space!

yr situation is astro is a must, use kodi only. then, you probably made a wrong choice in the device. yr android's main features are playback hd video incl 4k, hd audio files for home theater and stream a variety of great apps - english and chinese. kodi is just one app that gets you movies and live tv. there are many others incl popcorntime, moviedhd, showbox, mobdro and tons of china apps for all kinds of things.

bottomline - if u only want kodi, yes, should explore cheaper options.

hk/canto, taiwan, china, korean, japanese stuff...

there are many variations - japanese with chinese subs, korean with eng subs, canto with no subs... biggrin.gif

my experience:

kodi - in azdrama and dramago, chinese, jap, korean... most have eng subs. but selection may be limited.

other apps like vst, moretv, togic, mango, puding - these are all china apps - besides the bulk in mandarin audio/chinese subs, there is jap/kor/taiwan in original language audio and chinese subs. hk/canto stuff usually dubbed in mandarin, chinese subs.

so, if one MUST have eng subs, not much choice other than what u get in kodi.
