ever tried connecting yr 1tb hdd to the pc, stream to the box with samba. it's simple.

i have little knowledge about nas, only that it is a storage server networked to stream to any device u wish in a lan.

i play most of my stuff via local usb/hdd.

wifi streaming used mainly for online material.

i have thought a nas for some time now, but then i felt no big need.

that day has yet to come.
samba is a generic term, windows call it file sharing.

to get samba to work, u need to allow the pc to be accessed by yr device.

once u set that, accessing from the device is just using the usual pc id and pw.

it is simple and effective for home lan use, incl bluray and 4k material.

NFS, Samba or Plex (Premium) should be reasonably okay. I've never been a fan of routers + external HD file server thingy as a router's primary goal is not being a media server and as such is liable to bugs in the firmware, as most manufacturers don't pay much attention to those aspects. While most routers are absolutely great as download clients & transferring files from device to device, but streaming and processing high bit-rate media real-time... not so great. A good NAS system would be perfect, but can also be expensive  Get it if you can justify its purchase. No need to get a Gigabit switch just for that, especially if both the router and android box are gigabit speed capable & are wired. As for throughput? LAN ≠ ISP provided internet speed. LAN speeds have a much higher data transfer rate. But achievable speeds depend largely on the capabilities of the router, interference and the network adapter on the receiving end.

That is normal for most china/ low branded box, max 720p (or is it SD?) for youtube app, limitation by content provider google.

I had same issue on my himedia h8 octacore box (higher spec compare to my other box), only 720p when streaming youtube but i get full hd 1080p when using my other box (amazon fire stick, lower spec).

Guys, wanna ask your opinion..i would like to buy android box purposely to watch astro using astro on the go and some tv series from iflix..is there any android box that support this two apps? thanks for advice

tv boxes don't fail that easily.

the bigger issue is about memory size and some apps not working on older chipsets.

over time, there is a need to change to newer and better as tech moves along.

my 1st one is a 1/4gb nand. memory good only for small apps; slow; now used mainly for usb playback since it can play bdmv/iso and pass thru hd audio.

2nd one is 2/8gb emmc mainly used for chinese apps in another location.

3rd one is 2/16gb 4k emmc in full use.
i have not noticed anything much better than the 2/16gb 4k except for nividia shield which is netflix uhd certified, so that's the point i would like to follow.
