Hi all... nowadays router comes with USB ports which can connect to hard drive (like NAS). The problem is i cannot access the drive from android box but can easily map network drive from windows system. Is there any apps that i need or is there any other option to access network connected drive from android box? Thanks in advance.

Guys.. i have been reading a lot on streaming hd media within home network and found that there are many constraints from routers to even cat* cables.
I am using DLink DSL2877AL router and connected my 1TB external drive to the router USB port. I have M8S Android Box and able to add the Path in KODI. The problem is some movies (bigger than 10GB) will buffer a lot while playing. I have my Android box connected directly to the router using CAT5e cable. I was thinking of adding a gigabit switch but the question is will it help? Appreciate all sifus advice. What i am trying to do is setting up a home network to stream HD content. Using PC in my home office to get the content and directly saved to my network media for ease of streaming across multi hd devices within my house. Thanks. QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jan 2 2016, 09:53 PM) i have little knowledge about nas, only that it is a storage server networked to stream to any device u wish in a lan. Windows 10 file sharing is not stright forward. I am not able to share any folders (dont have admin permission) while i am the administrator. Trying few options but still ended up the same thing. In kodi, manage to see the homegroup computer as Windows SMB but it requires login and password where i dont have any login on my pc. Quite complicated there.i play most of my stuff via local usb/hdd. wifi streaming used mainly for online material. i have thought a nas for some time now, but then i felt no big need. that day has yet to come. samba is a generic term, windows call it file sharing. to get samba to work, u need to allow the pc to be accessed by yr device. once u set that, accessing from the device is just using the usual pc id and pw. it is simple and effective for home lan use, incl bluray and 4k material. QUOTE(voncrane @ Jan 2 2016, 11:06 PM) NFS, Samba or Plex (Premium) should be reasonably okay. I've never been a fan of routers + external HD file server thingy as a router's primary goal is not being a media server and as such is liable to bugs in the firmware, as most manufacturers don't pay much attention to those aspects. While most routers are absolutely great as download clients & transferring files from device to device, but streaming and processing high bit-rate media real-time... not so great. A good NAS system would be perfect, but can also be expensive Thanks for the input bro. Appreciate it. I just dunno what went wrong. I beleive my DLink DSL2877AL router is capable of 10/100/1000 LAN connection but somehow not able to find it in the manual or any review (about the 1000). Dual channel wifi is capable of 450Mbps on 5G band btw. Anyway, 100mbps eventually should be enough as it is still capable to deliver 10-12MB/s transfer rate but somehow my LAN test only able to get less than 1MB/s read/write speed. I dont have any other idea to troubleshoot what went wrong. Hmmm.. |

QUOTE('ed @ Jan 23 2016, 01:38 PM) That is normal for most china/ low branded box, max 720p (or is it SD?) for youtube app, limitation by content provider google. Ic. Seem like no way to enable the HD content in these boxes. I had same issue on my himedia h8 octacore box (higher spec compare to my other box), only 720p when streaming youtube but i get full hd 1080p when using my other box (amazon fire stick, lower spec). |

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Feb 28 2016, 10:39 AM) tv boxes don't fail that easily. my 3months old M8S box already shows symptoms of failing... the TV screen flickers often and sometimes no image shows on the TV (just blank). Other inputs such as Astro/HyppTV are perfect. Believe the box is failing...the bigger issue is about memory size and some apps not working on older chipsets. over time, there is a need to change to newer and better as tech moves along. my 1st one is a 1/4gb nand. memory good only for small apps; slow; now used mainly for usb playback since it can play bdmv/iso and pass thru hd audio. 2nd one is 2/8gb emmc mainly used for chinese apps in another location. 3rd one is 2/16gb 4k emmc in full use. i have not noticed anything much better than the 2/16gb 4k except for nividia shield which is netflix uhd certified, so that's the point i would like to follow. |
