Hi guys...im looking for a 4K box which can play 4K smoothly...
my current Veolo 4K isn't working well with the 4k files i've downloaded, laggy or greenish/purplish screen problem...
thx

No budget? Here are a few popular models:

*Minix Neo U1
*HiMedia Q10 Pro
*Nvidia Shield TV

Perhaps you can upload a sample snippet or 2 of the files and I can test playback on the Neo U1. Alternatively, there are youtube videos showing the above boxes performance.. Watch a few..

Wow that's a big 1.

I'm getting a new airmouse... Had minix A2 lite paired with the Neo U1. Now since getting the Dolamee D5 as well... I'm thinking of getting a smallish Airmouse with qwerty of course

Ya, come to think of it, it makes sense now.

TV vol setting is the master. Once one sets it to 30%, that is the maxi vol available to HypTV and Q5 where their 100% corresponds to the TV 30%.

HypTV and Q5 0-100% work within the TV 30% I have set.

Wish I realised this months ago. Ha.
*
Neo U1 set to 100%
Using HT/TV (HDMI-CEC) remote to adjust volume up and down.. Zero issues.

QUOTE(BOTAK_WAI @ Dec 24 2016, 04:25 PM)
actually wireless mouse (preferably with bluetrack sensor) + original remote = best cheap combo.

i am using Logitech K400 Plus, but i feel that keyboard isn't necessary for tv box.

the most frequent used keys are:
1. touchpad/mouse
2. left click
3. back/home/recent app
4. play/pause
5. previous track
6. next track
7. mute/vol-/vol+
8. power button
9. up/down/left/right/ok
*
Clearly you don't use the browser/Kodi frequently.. A keyboard comes in handy for entering web addresses, etc. smile.gif

Hi guys, after reading here for a week, just got my first androidbox (m9plus 4k). Previously I'm digging popcorn time or Showbox on stock unifi hypptvbox but now I can layan kodi.

Quick question, how to run apps in background without root? Was it implemented via kernel or OS side that each time I minimize back to home screen the previous app will auto kill? I don't have any task killer install. It is a 2GB ram 16GB emmc box. I just wanna run like Spotify in the background and few things.

One more thing, how to fix iFlix "this is embarrassing". Was it because my build prop is weird to iFlix server? My box is not rooted. I know Kodi is able to replace wholly though
*
Apps abilities to run in the background depends on the app itself having such ability and more importantly, the firmware. Majority of these boxes almost always have a built-in task killer and some firmware/kernel can be quite aggressive in killing apps. Meaning you are out of luck and have to resort to other means. Try KeepRunning, and it doesn't seem to require root.

As for the iFlix issue, its an either it works on your box or it doesn't at this time. Up to iFlix to update it to work on your box. In the past, one was able to run older versions of the iflix app, but recently they've pushed out an update and using an older version to connect to their servers...results in the app requesting (forced) for the update. Tons of android devices out there, hard for their devs to keep track and can't really blame em as the app's originally designed and maintained for small screens.

Now only I know the iflix's error is actually box problem, I thought it was iflix's problem. laugh.gif
OK lo, then time to remove it from my box.. sad.gif
*
Yes.. It's been a Box issue. Some manufacturers (I.e. Minix) actually work hard on making their firmwares as compatible as possible to the numerous media apps.. At minimum, the stable ones, rather than drive by type apps.

Hi..thought of buying an android box as well but cant decide to go for minix U1 or Ubox..can someone enlighten me! Thx
*
Minix Neo U1 owner here.. Before I recommend it.
Have you searched this thread for reviews of the Neo U1? I and a few have left our opinions.
BTW, what are your main concerns?

QUOTE(pluginbaby @ Dec 28 2016, 12:52 PM)
Yeah I'm guessing it is at OOM or LMK handling. If it is at OS level, it is very hard to diagnose plus I don't have root anyway. I'll try your suggestion tonight once I'm home, thanks
Another use case is that tvbox doesn't have DPI setup built in as it is meant to project out and adapt to output resolution, which probably what those app validates upon when it tries to parse the value of what quality by default it wish to push. Possibly once an Android TV version is out, it can work universally but don't think iFlix will put effort in that as it is not mass market yet
*
Precisely, unlike most easily moddable phones and tablets, where with root, DPI and even device type amongst others, can be faked... Doing such on the typical box running what's summarily an android tablet with the android OS being output via HDMI or similar. I was happy when the Android TV OS was released and while it should replace what most use today.. Its adoption and growth rate isn't as anticipated. Time will tell.

Kinda funny, cuz due to how the Android OS works, most are more concerned about apps running in the background, using up the battery, than having one running constantly.. Well, with TV boxes, battery life isn't a factor.. smile.gif

me too. thanks to Khalid21 for advice.

but the X96 model S905X android 6.0 2G/16G box is generally cheaper than those S905 2G/8G box sweat.gif

since last week i see on lazada, those S912 box price increase, S905X box price decrease, and less S905 with 2GB ram box available liao…those S905 box with dual band wifi price increase a lot.

There's a saying "cheap no good..good no cheap"... Applies here as stable firmwares cost a lot more than hastily cooked ones. nod.gif

Hi Sifus, need some advice.

My Beelink MINI MXIII II disconnects the WIFI connection by itself and doesn't automatically connects back again. I need to reconnect it manually.
Any ideas on this? Or it is because of one of my many apk's that is causing this?
Any advise would be welcomed.

No, I'm using a TP Link router
The funny thing is that I had previously the same type of box which I had set up for my niece, been running it for over a month at the same place before I handed over to her and that box did not disconnect by itself.
I have 2 other another boxes, MXQ Pro and ZIDOO X1 II, both running fine but then again both of these boxes are quite near the router. Is the Beelink MINI MXIII II prone to poor wifi reception? I'm subscribing unifi 30Mbps, I have run the speed test on the box and only got at best around 10Mbps. On my Note 4 at the same area, I've recorded full 30Mbps speed.
*
hmm.gif We still can't rule out a home network issue and I take it that, running an Ethernet cable is not desirable based on the location. Could be, that location is considered a non-optimal area from your router. Example, there's a particular spot at my place (outskirts of the router's reach) where an iPad can retain a wifi connection but can't connect to the internet.... and after awhile, it will disconnect itself or I'm forced to manually disconnect it.. if I attempt manually connecting back to the network, it simply refuses, despite listing the same network as a selectable choice. Now, if I move closer to or stay in the same room as the router, this iPad suffers no such issues and will stay connected 24/7. On the other hand, internet works perfectly when using a Nexus tablet or smartphones in the same problematic location as the iPad.

So in a way, it could be the box or it's simply too far away from the router and suffers from too much interference. Issue persists while using the 2.4ghz network?

Yes, am using the 2.4ghz network.
I'll try to move the box to another closer location to see whether it will disconnects again.

Question: How to know whether my TP Link router is capable of 5ghz?
By the way, my TP link router should be about 4 to 5 years old. Not sure if it capable of 5ghz or not.

Easiest way to find out is to Google the specs of your router.. If 5Ghz is listed....

Let's say it is capable, does it runs concurrent 2.4 and 5ghz or do I need to set it?

You'd have to set it.

What would be a good recommendation for a reasonable cost router capable of 2.4 + 5ghz network and also compatible to use with Hypptv?

Your idea of reasonable cost is different from mine.. Majority of the routers from a few years back are capable of handling both both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, independently or simultaneously. All routers are not equal and performance depends on your network environment and it's requirements. Visit the Networks and Broadband section for more. Can't discuss such here.

I checked docooler website to look for the firmware download but it returned no result lol.
It is cheap but I won't buy anything without support
*
Same here... Specs alone does not cut it.. IMO, main criteria as follows;
*A global and highly stable firmware... Not region-locked.
*Proper support directly from the manufacturer.
*Adequate unofficial support from the global community... Safe root and unroot, custom kernels, ROMs, tweaks, etc.
*Current and future Kodi support.. Official recognition by the Kodi foundation. This is cuz I'm a heavy Kodi user.
*Solid build quality with the ability to properly dissipate heat. Running cool for hours.
*Well integrated hardware and software.
*Full support of common Video & HD Audio formats.. Hardware decoding, pass through, etc.

Only after the above boxes are checked, do I consider other issues such as budget, power consumption, logistics, UI, start/shutdown speeds, RAM management, etc.

Just found out  this today.

Like many others, I am using Exodus. Easy, reliable, stable etc.

Found out that Exodus does not always give you what you ask for, say you selected 1080p movie but when you play it, stated as 720 on the bottom row. Ditto with sound quality 2 vs 5.1

Found out that Alluc gives what you ask for, 1080 is 1080, 5.1 is 5.1

Give it a try and see.

yup... Exodus, while great.. isn't perfect.

Haven't had to use Alluc in awhile..

Thanks for the detailed review. A few quick questions;
*Does it support Audio Passthrough... which formats?... I'm also assuming with its CPU-GPU combo, hardware decoding is norm.
*Gaming controller(s) used or supported? Wired or Wireless?

Depends on your equipment.. Actually for non-power users without the proper audio-visual hardware, the Nvidia shield 1 or 2 is definitely overkill. Think of it this way, some ppl can or only require their cars to drive to 120Km/h (0-100 in 15 secs) max, others want to see 320km/h (0-100 in 4 secs) and still be able to take corners, all without achieving lift off.. brows.gif

Tons of YouTube videos showing performance... that's real world data right there.
