Thanks for some of the replies guys. A suggestion to make an info post at the first TS post.

Anyways did some reading as suggested and came across some info like the s905 and s912 chip that's mostly used on the boxes nowadays.

But I also found out about the mibox 3 pro/extended which uses Mediatek MT8693 and it blows the other chipset out of the way (based on benchmarks). Anyone here using mibox 3 pro? Planning to get one soon...
*
Dedicated Xiaomi MiBox thread + keyword searched... FYI, I'm yet to explore the latest Global Mibox and would advice you steer clear of the older hardware. Especially, if you plan to max Kodi on it. Reported issues.

Yup, read reviews about the older mibox and the reviews are so-so only. But the new pro/extended version has really good benchmarks. Only thing is have to root to get google play/services.
*
If that's the case, try to get the one that ships with the Global ROM and or built for the USA market. That supports Google’s services (Playstore, movies, etc). I'm not a fan of it only having 8GB storage.

Internal storage is much faster than an attached USB 2.0 drive.

Planing to get new box for living room use, currently own a minix x8h-plus

Been headache in choosing neo u1 with older spec/high price tag but better firmware support or go for those S912 with 3GB/32GB...

Applying Unfi 50mbs, currently 4mbps stimmyx
Mainly for video streaming via apps/kodi
Linked network storage for video library
Can someone share some thoughts
*
I would still go for the Minix Neo U1.. It's rock solid.

Suspected as much.. Just wasn't bothered enough to read up and post a proper differences list. tongue.gif.. Lurker can read or watch full reviews.. Plus it's a no brainer that the Q10 Pro is better than the Q5 Pro.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jan 28 2017, 11:55 PM)
one thing i discovered in the last few days...

if u r heavy into playback of videos with digital (dd/dts) and hd audio (ddtruehd/dtshdma), you gotta get a box with a native player that can do that.

if u rely on kodi for usb playback, it is becoming a nightmare for android devices.

i can't fully understand all of it after reading and reading but i can tell it is becos kodi is setting a new std for v17. it gets worse with differences in android 5, 6, 7! biggrin.gif

in short, android boxes and androidtv firmware (and their chipsets) that do not comply with kodi 17 will be in a mess for dd and dts audio streams, no need to talk hd audio.

feel free to read all these:

Basically, Kodi development refused to do Amlogic's job any longer from Kodi 17 onwards. Prior to this, a lot of hackery has been employed to get HD Audio working and with the recent shortage of dedicated Kodi for Android devs, the foundation simply has no choice. Good thing is, the folks at Amlogic have taken notice and claim to be more helpful.

I also believe that it's one of the primary reason the guys at Minix are delaying the release of their next hardware. Another plus point for Minix devices... They work directly with the Kodi team to release custom Kodi app for Minix devices. Expecting the same for Kodi 17 after its stable release.

Surprisingly q5>q10 for some 4k playability...but I dunno why...

Use this page to launch into the q5 & q10 reviews...

*
Hmm, from the reviews it does appears so.. Since they are both using the same CPU & GPU, reads like a firmware issue. Hopefully one that is resolved with a firmware update for the Q10 Pro.

This one. Wow, price increased so much!! I bought on 12.12 for 202.65 after discount from actual price - 230.28. Plus, I have another 5% cash back from my credit card, so I paid less than RM 200.

Still got cheaper deal from other sellers: http://www.lazada.com.my/docooler-m9s-pro-...g-12472624.html and http://www.lazada.com.my/docooler-m9s-pro-...g-16684188.html

Yup... In addition to Nvidia, Wetek, Xiaomi, Amazon, Raspberry Pi, Razar Forge, etc... IMO, no official firmware support, no purchase.

now using file manager from maple media.

asus file manager also good, just i like the former more. file commander also great choice.

I quit using ES File Explorer a few versions back. Very sad to see the once great app, fall so low today.. Too bloated. Using Solid Explorer now. So far so good.

nobody own zidoo x9s here?

it seems a rocking solid mid range box here.
*
Looks and performs quite good. Price point puts it right up there with the likes of the Neo u1 and HiMedia Q10 Pro, so the competition is on. Ships with Realtek's RTD1295, SATA connectivity and HDMI-IN recording feature (some may find this handy). It's pre-rooted and so AOTG users may want to stay away.. hmm.gif

QUOTE(fruitie @ Feb 1 2017, 02:08 PM)
I didn't know ES File Explorer is that bad and I'm still using it. laugh.gif Easy for me to share files from mobile or PC. laugh.gif
Maybe can test the options you guys posted earlier. biggrin.gif
*
I would have continued using it except, I've had times when it pops up during Quasar playback, to tell me my space has decreased by a certain amount (no s**t Sherlock) and that notification crashes the Quasar addon, forcing me to buffer all over again (addon set not to save files). Couldn't find a way to disable that particular notification and it happened frequently enough, forcing its uninstall.

Hmm, perhaps they issued an update to that effect or it was not available on the free version, cuz at the time of uninstalling, I don't recollect ever seeing such an option.

make sure to get atleast 4gb ram android tv box..else will lag
*
Err.. What talk you? I had a 1GB RAM box once and used properly, no "lag"... This isn't Windows on a PC we are talking about. I will let you know that some boxes with 2GB RAM can play certain media files (smoothly) that would crash or freeze on even most PCs with 4GB RAM and above.

Is there any 4GB RAM box? If there's, it will be very limited choices. I only see 2GB most of the time and even my 3GB RAM box is pretty rare too.
*
Probably still bloated.. Like me a lean performer.. smile.gif

There have been a few... For today's purposes, its generally overkill especially with the way the Android OS and media boxes are designed to run. IMO, other priorities such as extensive firmware support and good hardware+software combo rank way higher.
Exhibit A
Exhibit B

P.S. Until we have proper use for it, 4GB RAM makes more sense on a Tablet or Smartphone than on an Android media box.

No need to beg.. How about you take a look at Frutie's box? I recently had to quote one of her posts, which contains a link to the box on Lazada (If not mistaken). You are a senior member and should know how to isolate/show only posts from a particular user (Very helpful forum feature).. Do that to either mine or Frutie's..
