I'm using an android tv box, namely CS918. It is quite ok to me (consider cheap comparing to those Minix model) since I didn't plant to spend a lot on these tv box. The specs seems ok and using it been good (smooth and no issues installing apps from google play). It is preinstall with Kodi and have no problem streaming videos in Kodi (sometimes facing longer time to stream as mine only internet speed of 4mb)

My question is, when want to stream videos from chinese apps (e.g VST, Togic and etc), it is always lag very slow. Is this normal?

China sites are usually not smooth. That is also my experience.

There are a few factors to consider which can affect streaming speed. Poorly made apps or OS, hardware incompatibility, insufficient internet speed and home connection/bandwidth, etc. most importantly though is the source you are streaming from. For example, It's obviously much easier to stream HD online videos from YouTube servers than from a much smaller hosting site.

4mb is surely a problem for hd videos but shud be fine for sd.

vst and togic have geoblocks. they don't work well unless u r on vpn.

try pu-ding - this one works very well, incl hd if yr speed is good.

you should be able to find it in shafa:

Hi AV Fan

Have you tried installing NBC Live app on Himedia Q16? Can't seems to download it from playstore. Would I be able to download thru Kodi? I actually have the sub to NBC

Cheers

There are many brands of Android TV box. I wonder what happen after they come up with newer and newer model. Surely they will abandon the support of old model, thus OS cannot be upgraded. This is similar like smartphone but at least there are many unofficial mod OS like from Cynogen.

Maybe we just end up changing box every one or two years?

these boxes will keep getting upgraded over time in terms of android version and flash memory.

as broadband gets faster, tv resolution higher, need more flash memory.

firmwares... typically, they stop development after 2 yrs or 2 models later.

so, 2 yrs can do, maybe 3.

my 1st box is almost 2 yrs old now, still in good use. just that it can't handle some larger apps.

think octacore boxes about to hit the market. hope it is 32gb! thumbup.gif

I was thinking maybe I would go for HTPC. It is getting cheaper and it is more flexible than Android box. Asrock has just came up with new exiting BeeBox

htpc is a different device.

pc based, can do more "pc" functions", i suppose.

androidboxes are great for use with android apps which are plenty, easy to navigate on tv, usb playback, etc...

The new PC based now comes with remote control and as easy to navigate just like Android box except it is not right out of box ready. There is Kodi (formerly XBMC), a free and open-source media player software developed by the XBMC Foundation.

I just think it is more flexible to use for long run, I suppose and the price is also <1k I believe

i tried a couple.
tried a free european one - doesn't work with china sites.
tried another china one, free 1 month trial.
when connected, it works very well, but the connection isn't stable.
decide not to use anymore.

i actually dun need vpn since puding is good.
and himedia comes with hitv and mangotv too; hitv is good, incl hd; mango, only sd is good.

Apparently it is already included in the fusion repository. Just went to video add-on to add it.
However, you need to have a sub to watch it's premium contents (such as live football)
