Unfortunately the XV is using the FB engine and not the FA. Boxer fans would mod the FA Performance engine and not the economical FB engine.

I see, thanks for the info to know more about the engine. just googled around FB20 and FA20..

The engine in the 2.0i Impreza is a 2.0L DOHC, 16-valve, horizontally opposed, 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine producing 148 hp @ 6200 rpm. Using sequential multiport fuel injection.
The engine in the BRZ is 2.0L DOHC, 16-valve, horizontally opposed, 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine producing 200 hp @ 7000 rpm using direct and port fuel injection.
How can two cars with the exact same displacement can produce such different HP outputs. I understand the injection system and the ignition systems are different. Is this enough to contribute an additional 50hp?

They have the same displacement but do not share that many similarities. They both have different block, head, connecting rods, and pistons, so practically they are almost can be considered as different engines altogether.

Engine displacement alone does not determine the final power output. It all depends on the tuning and the internal parts. The FB engine is made to be economical and not performance.

The same goes with engines like the one used by Honda Civic FD2 and FD2-Type R where both have same displacement but one produces 155hp in normal Civic and the other is 222hp in the Civic Type R.

Talking about RV, the 2005-2006 impreza 2nd hand price still around RM130-150k. That shows subaru's RV is not really bad

That's because the 2005-2006 is the last of the 2nd Gen Impreza WRX/STi which is known as the V9 which was replaced by the V10 hatch 2007 that was not liked by many.

For the RM130-150K, you are most probably looking at the S203/S204 and Spec-C. Those were brought in recon at about RM220-240K. Those are also limited edition hence the better RV.

A standard Subaru Impreza WRX STi from 2005 (V8) can be bought for about RM100-110K. Some even selling under RM100k as they need to sell their cars before the 10 year limit on loans is reached. Subaru club guys are all beginning to sell their 2003/2004 V8 since last year. This year and next would be the start of the V9 guys selling if they are willing to let go.

Your XV is first generation. The resale value will all depend on whether Subaru makes a better XV in the next 3 years or whether they fail miserably like the Impreza hatch. If they fail to improve, then good for you guys. If they so happen to come out with a CRV/CX-5 killer by making a bigger XV then you are screwed. Getting bigger is a forte of Subaru as seen in the Forester growing from a station wagon into a full blown SUV.

At this moment there is really nothing to compare to as Subaru does not have any market here until the XV as they were only, and trying really hard, to sell the Impreza WRX and the old Forester for the last few years.

Yes, this article is old and some of the points no longer applies as that was before they developed the FA engine found in the BRZ and the new 2015 WRX/STi. At the time of the article, they didn't even know what was going into the FT86/BRZ which later got the performance version of the FB called the FA. That will also become the new turbocharged version to be found in the 2015 WRX/STi.

The normal road Impreza will still use the same FB engine as the XV.

Now this is what we are waiting for.... but no more Subaru burble.... cry.gif but that was expected since both the FA and FB engines in the BRZ/Forester/XV no longer has the burble. In an interview with Subaru bosses were saying that they had to decide whether to keep the burble or to have better performance... and performance won.

From what I see and what i read ... they using that FA on 86/BRZ and the latest WRX STI model, .. As what you said, FA and FB is totally different thing. FA definately is sexy (FA boxer article), but FB still have its own selling point, which designed more for fuel economy and able increased torque at low revs... (mention in that 2010 old articles, is quite similar to what we have in XV FB engine, i think that is their original idea when building the new FB engine) , of cause maintain horizontally-opposed layout while achieving greater mechanical efficiency....

For city car like XV, FC is still a main factor will affect the sales.

hi, bro, is the white colour metallic? It looks like solid paint (both the test drive unit and the showroom unit are white at JB MotorImage. But i check the pricelist, there is a RM300 metallic paint charge which does not exclude white colour. So meaning the white is metallic?

Will get the white colour too if ultimately choose XV over ASX 4WD. ASX white colour is Solid White, not metallic.

Thanks in advance. smile.gif

thanks for the info but sighed... i would rather pay RM300 for White Pearl Metallic. tongue.gif There is a blue colour but it looks quite dull to me, not as striking as BMW dark blue. All the colours are there when i visited the JB Showroom on Tuesday. About 8 units XV in front of the showroom and few has been registered. I think we will see more XV on the road soon. thumbup.gif
