QUOTE Grounding order for Apache helicopters to be lifted next week 2014/02/05 16:20:20 Taipei, Feb. 5 (CNA) Taiwan will begin putting its 12 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters back into service next week, nearly two months after it grounded the aircraft when notified by the United States of a failure in the same model. "The grounding of the Apaches is set to be lifted Feb. 11," said a Taiwanese military source on Wednesday. Army Aviation Special Forces pilots will be able to fly the helicopters once the choppers are fitted with new main transmission boxes, according to the source, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue. The Army will finish replacing the transmission boxes on the 12 helicopters by the end of this month, the source said, but those choppers whose transmission boxes have already been replaced and tested will go into service on Feb. 11. The 12 aircraft are part of a 30-helicopter package ordered from the United States in June 2011 at a cost of more than US$2 billion. The model E is the latest in the Apache attack helicopter series. Taiwan received its first delivery of six Apache helicopters last November followed by a second batch in early January. The 12 helicopters Taiwan has received so far were grounded after it received word from the U.S. in mid-December of a main transmission failure in one of the Apache AH-64Es in service in the U.S. Army. No problems have been found so far in the helicopters received in Taiwan, but the transmissions are still being replaced as a precaution, the source said. Even as the helicopters were kept out of service, ground and simulation training has continued, army officers have said. The final three batches of six choppers will be delivered to Taiwan with the new transmission boxes later this year and are scheduled to arrive in March, May and July, respectively, the source said. The U.S. and Taiwan are the only two countries that have used the latest Apache helicopter model so far. (By Elaine Hou) source |

QUOTE(Dharma123 @ Feb 5 2014, 02:05 PM) bad idea. if china want to reclaim james shoal then our country will be in conflict with them. In that event, China will refuse to sell further missles, conduct maintenance, sell spare parts and upgrade our military equipment bought from them. we only get, like, what? 24? of FN-6 launchers. and it was bought 10 years ago. in comparison, we got like 700 iglas and anzas in our disposalQUOTE(Dharma123 @ Feb 5 2014, 02:09 PM) aiya so what? T-84 is a derivation copycat of the russian T-82 right? you need to read more about the 2nd chechen wari maybe wrong but was this the same tanks that russia used during the grozny incursion? In which hundreds of russian soldiers was killed and tanks destroyed by mere RPGs? Any tank other than those that use the british chobham armor are useless. Tanks need to withstand shape charges. Russia or ukraine are not so advance in this area, relying on expensive reactive armors. Thats why in syria so many tanks were destroyed by mere RPG used by the FSA. I not sure if these tanks use the new russian composite armor but like i said the best armor is the british chobham armor use by Challenger, Leopard, M1 tanks. and there's no such thing as T-82 QUOTE(Dharma123 @ Feb 5 2014, 02:52 PM) i think you refering to ww2 is it? the t-10 with its slant armor. it's called inherent weakness. and despite the mudah meletup thing, a lot of tanks that was destroyed during gulf war are older T-55s and chinses Type 59s. but what to press knew. for them every soviet tank is T-72son another note, do t-90 have the same problem as the t-72? last time in iraq war....the t-72 mudah letup because the ammo not well protected. some more they stuff 3 men into the turret (to give it small and low profile) making it dangerous, they say the auto loader can easily chop off the operators hands if not careful. |

QUOTE Drones to be used to fight crime, smuggling and intrusion at sea ganaih... pakai UAV![]() by Farik Zolkepli AND Austin Camoens (http://www.thestar.com.my) PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will use drones as eyes in the sky to fight crime, smuggling and intrusion at sea. The agency’s director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish said the agency expected to rely on fixed-wing and rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as part of its strategy. “We are still in the planning stages, but the UAV is the way forward for MMEA to ensure better surveillance of local waters.” MMEA had five regions of jurisdiction nationwide, involving 4,492km of coast line where sea surveillance using ships was no longer sufficient, he said. “We want to improve our operational efforts by using drones. “We can further secure our borders, especially sea routes, with the drones,” he said, adding that MMEA hoped to acquire the aircraft by 2020. Adm Mohd Amdan said criminals, especially cigarette smugglers, were becoming increasingly crafty and the agency needed to be ready to face such challenges. “Cigarette smugglers will use a particular boat filled with contraband cigarettes as a decoy to lure authorities, allowing a group of boats with much more cargo to slip through.” Adm Mohd Amdan said with Malaysia being used as a transit point for human smuggling, the smugglers were known to avoid arousing suspicion by using smaller fishing boats with fewer passengers to slip past the authorities. “These smaller boats will then rendezvous with a larger ship that will then take a big ‘load’ of people to neighbouring countries. “Each illegal immigrant is charged about US$200 (RM669) for their trip,” he said. Despite being low in logistical capabilities, Adm Mohd Amdan vowed that the agency would give its all to improve the security of Malaysian waters as well as mount successful search and rescue operations. |

Iraqi's T-72 cannot be compare to Russian T-72..Iraqi T-72 is called Lion of Babylon/Assad Babil and it was outdated by 10-15 years when fighting US's M1 Abrams..their T-72 also lack modern components like night vision, etc..and the tank gunner lacks marksmanship..some military analyst reject the saying that M1 > T-72 if they only take Iraqi Assad Babil as reference..on another note, do t-90 have the same problem as the t-72? last time in iraq war....the t-72 mudah letup because the ammo not well protected. some more they stuff 3 men into the turret (to give it small and low profile) making it dangerous, they say the auto loader can easily chop off the operators hands if not careful. still, idk if the same can be said to syria though as idk if they use Assad Babil too or T-72 from Russia/Poland/Ukraine/China...many videos showed FSA insurgents able to blow the T-72's turret away (i dun think they use rpg7, probably RPG-29/31 or Kornet or Metis-M) |

At the time, it would be better for Iraqis to sell their tanks and purchase huge quantity of ATGMs. A network of ATGM infantry teams like the one employed by Egypt in 1973 war will kill more than a few Abrams and Bradley. When hiding in camouflaged trenches these ATGM teams would also be less vulnerable to air attack from Apache and A-10.you need to read more about the 2nd chechen war and there's no such thing as T-82 it's called inherent weakness. and despite the mudah meletup thing, a lot of tanks that was destroyed during gulf war are older T-55s and chinses Type 59s. but what to press knew. for them every soviet tank is T-72s |

Yes, I'm aware about monkey models, exported T-72 and MiG-29 during cold war were notorious for their downgraded quality.they are so in bad shape that weeks before 2003 operation iraqi freedom, they have to buy ammos for their AKs from syria I know, it would be hard for Iraqis to sell their used tanks after the 1991 Gulf War. But, I'm sure they could smuggle some ATGM's through Syrian border. If Hizbullah could do this, why Iraq couldn't. |
