WTF? The so-called ships from Aussie are destined for MMEA? In time where RMN sorely needed ships to patrol our long coasts, in which many of its assets donated to MMEA no less, MMEA snagged the procurement deal?
*
RMN get Armidale class patrol boat should be OK. small but low operation cost, can patrol for 21 days and 5000KM. suitable patrol in sabah.

I watch Australia drama "Sea Patrol season2" it base on Armidale class patrol boat story. look quite good the ship.

Singapore raises concerns as Indonesia names ship after two convicted marines

QUOTE
In response to media queries on Indonesian press reports on the naming of the frigate, the KRI Usman Harun, after the two Indonesian marines, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman said: “The two Indonesian marines were found guilty of the bombing which killed three people and injured 33 others. Singapore had considered this difficult chapter in the bilateral relationship closed in May 1973 when then-PM Lee Kuan Yew visited and scattered flowers on the graves of the two marines.

The Indonesian marines, Usman Hj Mohd Ali and Harun Said, were convicted and executed in Singapore for the bombing of MacDonald House on March 10, 1965.

According to a report in Kompas, published in Bahasa Indonesia and dated Feb 4, three Nakhoda Ragam class light frigates, fitted with the latest British-made weapons, will be delivered to the Indonesian Navy this year.

Historic Navy ship to be decommissioned in Pearl Harbor

The amphibious ship USS Denver, which has supported U.S. expeditionary forces in the Asia-Pacific region for more than 40 years, will be decommissioned in Pearl Harbor on Sept. 30, U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz's office said.

"The Denver has performed dutifully in its mission to safeguard America's interests in the Asia-Pacific and it is only fitting that she be decommissioned at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, ensuring a steady tempo of work for our civilian and military naval engineers," Schatz said in a release. "Hawaii will continue to play a key role in the Asia-Pacific rebalancing, which will be good for our workforce and local economy."

Schatz's office said the ship will be moved from Okinawa, Japan, to Hawaii. The decommissioning process involves civilian and military engineers, workers, and local contractors coordinating breakdown efforts, ensuring a steady stream of work for those employed at Pearl Harbor shipyard, his office said.

The Navy said in an internal message in July that it would decommission 12 ships in fiscal 2014, including seven frigates, the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Dallas, a combat support ship, a missile range instrumentation ship, a mine countermeasure ship, and the Denver.

The Denver is expected to be retained for potential future Navy use.

The 569-foot ship, commissioned in 1968, served in the Vietnam War and was a control ship for other amphibious ships in Operation Desert Storm.

The Navy said the Denver is the second oldest deployable ship in the Navy behind the USS Constitution, and is referred to as the "oldest gator in the swamp" for its amphibious role supporting Marine expeditionary forces.

Butterworth air base to transform into leisure-oriented project

by nadya ngui

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Air Force base in Butterworth will be transformed into a leisure-oriented development under a proposed joint venture (JV).

Leading the project would be TSR Capital Bhd, Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera and Pembinaan Bukit Timah Sdn Bhd to transform the 1,007-acre site via a land swap deal.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia on Wednesday, it said the air base will be relocated and reconstructed at a site soon to be identified.

It said the JV company will be the master developer of the leisure-oriented project.

“The proposal which is presently being negotiated between the parties was mooted by the JV company to the Government along the lines of the Public Private Partnership concept,” it said.

TSR will hold 51% equity share in the JV, followed by Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera at 30% and Pembinaan Bukit Timah at 19%.

macam buy second hand car, buy cheap, but engine problem etc etc. In long run, not worth it.

Immediate solution but definitely not permanent solution

if for the purpose for training and establishment, why not
but deep inside me still thinks that we wanted the Royal Marine doctrine rather then US Marine
a specialize force rather infantry unit.

because once we take the US item, we need to mold our style with theirs.

i couldn't agree more..imo, it's better to create a medium-sized specialize marine force like what we did to our elite airborne 10 Briged Para instead of large divisional-size marines like USMC..better just train the army with amphibious training rather than creating a whole new military branch.. hmm.gif

if we do really wanna established our own marine Force, dun think it will more than 2 regiments strength..so maybe Royal Marines model is the way to go..

USS Denver is way too old, even as training vessel, maybe its maintenance cost will be high

You have to remember,
Minister of Defense do not have the same power like the Minister of Home Affair
he can say something, but the end say does not come from him

To lighten the workload of the Navy,
for instance the MAB operation in the Sabah is almost the same of having a specialize marine forces
maybe need a little more tweak

Well given his clout anyway, I tend to put Marhalim atleast below Dzirhan in terms of defense procurement news. However at the end of the day, MINDEF still has the last say.

Both Dzirhan and Marhalim are credible sources, but both have also been proven wrong too by way of predicting military acquisition before.
