Since you are not using romance car, you can buy Hakone Pass at Odawara Station. Cheaper.

I emailed the odakyu visitor center. They said I am able to buy the 3900 yen ticket at shinjuku too ^-^ (hopefully no miscommunication here.)

Oh that would be good if it's true, do update us when you return.

If your intention to go to Shinjuku is only to buy the ticket, then you could skip it and but at Odawara. Just an alternative.

You can buy 3900 pass at Shinjuku.
Even you buy 5000 yen pass . You still need top up 800yen for Romance Car each way.

But without that 5000 yen pass. Romance Car each way will cost you 3000 yen per way.

Hi,
anyone tried the sleeper train from Hokkaido to Tokyo? or from Hokkaido to Osaka?
I'm undecided if it's worth it to top up the extra to take the sleeper train

Currently, starting to build my plan and itinerary for the trip

I been try all.
Same as night bus.
Travel at night to save hotel money.

If you a train fans...you will like it.
If not then take Willer Express Bus. More comfortable.

I am not pro, but then in Tokyo you have so many places other than just Shibuya, Asakusa etc.

(Harajuku, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Odaiba)

Bro RegentCid, do you mind if I ask you a little help in reserving tickets for Fujiko Museum?

I tried to reserve online, registered here and there, and in the end they need a Lawson card which they only deliver to Japan address.
