If you're being pragmatic, dun care apa-apa cerita kroni ke handouts ke, Proton is still cheap to buy and cheap to run....as a bonus they are also safe (The Preve and Suprima la).
Having owned an affordable ford, driven several Perodua cars extensively as well as a Toyota Vios P42, I have no problem buying another Proton.
This is not because Protons are good, but because it makes financial sense.

Yup.
Proton can be a good car, just the quality is just not there. If only they take QC seriously for Malaysia's Market. Then proton is worth buying for those who wants to at least have a car to drive since is affordable even though the price is actually high for a local car.
That's why I only mentioned, if people have a choice, they won't go for proton.
If Financial is great, and if people could afford a Jaguar, Audi, BMW, Range Rover and etcs, they won't get a proton.
The only fact that, there are lots of proton and perodua on the road is because is the cheapest brand to own.
Thanks to the sky high tax on imported cars like Honda, Toyota and etcs.
Remove the tax on imported cars and compete fairly. I think Proton would already be long gone. P2 might survive since is still a Daihatsu/Toyota and their cars quality is better.
No matter what, the only proton that I love so far. Is the Proton Satria Neo R3.
