Great... Thanks guys...
Am looking at the Sienna 1000... What are your opinions on this vs the Ryobi mini power which is lighter but a bit more expensive?
*
Based on what i've tested, Sienna 500 seems to be smoother than the size 1000. I would get a Tica Cetus if you can get a good price for it.

OK.. So a 500 then... The Tica has rave reviews but seem hard to get hold...I think the gv is within the same price range.... Any idea which shops have it in stock?

Yea it's a smooth solid reel with screaming drag sound. It's pretty hard to see it in shops, not sure why. Bought mine online years back.

Saw one online for rm 127 including postage...not sure if I should get one?
For braid ..is it it easy to spool onto reel ourselves without the machine you see in the tackle shops? Dulu2 with mono can just reel onto spool...

Which model is that? If the one with 2 spools then its a good deal. SS,SE,SB model comes with 6 ball bearings compared to other models.

Yea can spool yourself like mono no issue

The problem i have with using small sized reel is the gear ratio. I found out that sometimes its too slow to reel in line especially during times when you want it fast.
Btw im using braid for my 1000 series daiwa reel.

Go for gv is fine if you don't need the extra spool. SB, SS, SE difference is colour only I think. I opt for extra spool to put mono for bait fishing.

I rarely need a big enough lure for the small reel to need it to work that fast. UL setup mostly don't need that high speed retrieve presentation, but I do have a 1000 sized to work with as well.

The Ticas are really over-priced here...Even Indonesia also cheaper... may get my bro-in-law working in China to buy one when he comes back so will put my purchase on hold.
Anyone used the SS800...seems lighter at 149gm vs 175gm on the 500..

You are not allowed to fish at Batu Dam unless you get the approval from Syabas.

Yea but somehow noone is afraid of the law enforcer, till today i still see ppl fishing even there is fences surrounded along the mainroad.
Must be the homicide case back 2-3years ago that made them put up the fence

How do people still fish with the fence? Didn't notice any holes and the fence is not like your normal fencing.

Must remember not to bring wallet when visiting tackle shops....but the Sienna 500 on display seemed to be calling me. At RM 125, looked like a good deal so went and bought it against my better judgement....Impulse shopping ??
Bloody shop didn't have 6 lb braid so got it fixed with 8lb braid....couldn't wait to visit Jugra which I did last saturday...
All the reading and advice from you guys got me all excited to try this ultralight thing...
But then disaster, it's not that easy...
First thing .... I was casting too hard...used to my 15lb braid on the 2500 reel...so bird-nest...First hour wasted untangling...and casting...and untangling again
Then struck a baby GT...and struggled to manage the small drag...still managed to reel him in..
Second mistake, over tightened the drag hoping would be easier to reel the next one in. So you can guess what happened at the next strike, henjut too hard so my line broke...
This was starting to get frustrating....even worse, there was a big group of around 8 blokes hitting strike after strike at the same pond...and they were so noisy...really spoiled my fishing experience...
After that, a few bites here and there without hooking one...

Really good learning experience...and really respect you guys on the ultralight setups...

So, I think I got the casting part under control, should get better with more practice.
Have to get an ultralight rod as my ML maybe too stiff and won't cushion the stress on the light lines... Time to go shopping again..
And I respooled my line as there were some small kinks which I put on the inside..
Also, need to spend some time learning the drag on my reel..you really need to understand your gear properly
But it's the challenge that makes this so exciting...so will have to see how long I can keep this up..
Any other advice from all you experts is welcome...
Another thing, are fishing crowds nowadays so noisy...I always thought it was about getting away from it all, but if it is then will have to bear with it.
Now everyday dreaming of my next visit....
