it is quite a hassle to change the ssd I believe.

but I heard that Samsung ssd does work with MacBook pro retina (to be verified), but I am not sure which exact model. As personally I would prefer to have the right size of ssd at the point of purchase.

MacBook pro 15-inch mid 2015 only updated in 6 months time till now. it won't be updated so soon.

How is the your 15-inch MBP? I just sold away mine.

Am really loving it. Was on a long hiatus from Mac OS, but now everything feels just like home. biggrin.gif

VMware Fusion or Parallel is the better choice now? I purchased Parallels about 3 years ago, but that version is outdated.

Would love to hear your opinions.

frankly speaking, parallels is the first to update its compatibility with windows10 and el capitan. currently im using version 7 and its still working fine. performance is smooth, even when not in coherence mode.

the only problem is it drains the battery quite fast.

yes, the SSD is the main concern i changed to latest MacBook Pro, but i had 1 question here, i used Excel quite a lot, i'm currently using Office 2016, even with the this MacBook Pro, it will take some time for me to generate a chart from 10K rows data. actually what's the real factor that can improve the performance of Excel? sometimes it might like not responding (Cursor turning) when i scroll thru the sheet.
*
I was hoping Excel on Mac would be as good as Excel on Windows but it's just not happening. Your best bet is to use Excel on Windows on Parallels or Fusion.

A possible alternative is Google Sheets. Even with 10k rows it can be very fast, depending on what you do with it and which functions you use.

Even if you don't use ur laptop, it will still degrade over time since it is electronic based. So in this case better you use it. And you shouldn't be worried as apple comes with its warranty.

Are you looking for mobility or power? Cant get both though. But real world testing also not so far off for the macbook.

If the ram and the ssd the same capacity, dark grey and comes with local warranty then i would choose the 12'.

every hardware comes with lifespan, the more you use the remaining lifespan will definitely be shorten especially for SSD/battery that come with pretty fixed amount of lifespan.

but generally apple product is very durable, so it think it is not a big issue. I would think that if u are doing read/write intensive activity on the macbook such as running BT etc, video rendering etc, it will cause more harm to the macbook than playing games.

So you are getting more SSD capacity minus processor power for the 12"macbook. Indeed for me look tempting. Its going to depends also with your applications. As for me majority of my works is emails, word processing, photos, surfing, spreadsheets, presentation (just previewing not creation), games (i have iPad for that) and video in that order, so I would take the offer to swap. rclxms.gif

I would imagine, the upgrade to 256gb SSD is a bonus + get the mobility to boot.

actually very good deal. 256GB 12-inch macbook is more expensive than 13-inch 128GB rMBP.

It seems on same cases, the reflective coating can damage easily leaving behind streaks on the monitor which can be viewed when off at an angle.

On mine there is 2 small spots which I deduced was due to rubbing wth keyboard keys. However when in operation no issues. So I decided to let it slide....

They also mentioned that if use certain monitor cleaners, the reflective coating can be affected, thus leaving behind very ugly streaks on the surface. Now if that happens to mine, definite I will pursue the warranty.
