Yesterday side by side compare with my friend 15inch Mid-2014 RDMBP with the spec of:
1) 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache
2) 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory

Comparing with mine 12 inch Retina MacBook (i boosted to the highest spec):
1) 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor (Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz) with 4MB shared L3 cache.
2) 8GB of 1600MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory

Of course Macbook Losing...
We tested on normal apps like safari, opening video, website, loading images and etc...
The difference is 1% to 10% different ONLY ...
Some do not have significant slow but yet some is slow for 1 or 2 seconds.

after that we tried on those heavy apps like exporting Keynote with HD video inside, exporting adobe premiere PRO...
Then the different is 30 to 50% different.

Overal i am satisfy with it since MacBook is not a BEAST laptop with that size rclxms.gif
The speed is not so disappointed yet its not like x3/4 slow so tongue.gif
By comparing the price tag, design, weight i think its still quite balance icon_idea.gif

This is just my test so it might be different with you guys, i am just sharing icon_rolleyes.gif

I having another 15inch early-2011 MBP will test it when i am free tongue.gif

Yes, correct. I owned the mid 2015 highest end rMBP 15-inch with dedicated card before.

It has totally no significant improvement on the performance at all if doing normal day to do tasks.

So it is a over killed if one is to get that for day to day tasks.
It is expensive and not for everyone unless one is really professional who requires it for video rendering etc.

This MacBook 12-inch is definitely a capable machine unlike what most will perceive by just looking at the spec on paper alone.

I am thinking of upgrading my internal SSD for my rMBP 13" Mid 2014 (A1502) model. After scouring through the internet so far the only way to upgrade them is to look for SSD taken out of the larger models or OEM ones.

Found a couple of them on eBay and was wondering if I should bite the bullet.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/512GB-SSD-for-2013...SoAAOSw~gRVtCVF

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SSD-Solid-State-Dr...pIAAOSwPcVVxS~2

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-512GB-SM95...lIAAOSwnipWYH71

The reason I have to use the OEM route is because no 3rd party makers have made them yet. My only regret is that if I do upgrade and some 3rd party maker introduces a faster version then I would be very sad hahaha.

Hoping to get a 512Gb SSD and if there are 3rd party makers that would be the best.

Thanks for your headsup.

Indeed, I do agree that the macbook when compared to rmbp will somewhat loose out to performance but one must appreciate is the portability of the macbook. It is design for maximum portability. Its light, battery performance and physical size alone would want me to buy one if I do a lot of travelling for work. It may be slow for some power hungry apps, but it still can manage. Another advantage is that a mac can do away with a moue too. The trackpad is useable thus minimising any need for accessories cluttering the bag.

The 12" screen is also ideal IMHO. I have used a fujitsu 11.3" before and during those days it was manageable. Retina display and full keyboard layout is a bonus too and full mac os x means you have a total package in your hands. I for one if I have the funds would get one rclxm9.gif

12" is actually small indeed. if it is on a low res screen, it is totally terrible especially the screen real estate. but since it is with retina display. it is not that bad.

Personally I would just back it all up into the cloud. Microsoft now allows for 1TB in their storage

128gb is too little. It will be super lack of space over time and it will make the machine unusable and a lot less resellable in future. Even an iPhone is 128gb now not to say a full fresh MacBook.

that's why. minimally 256GB is needed for mac i would say especially if u want to run bootcamp.

128GB maybe cheap but it is actually waste of money in long run as the size of ssd is too little for future proof or even current to be usable.

yes, that's why i am saying it is the bare minimum.

it is good to have 512GB. but if one wants to save money, minimally he/she must go for the 256GB model else it is really waste of time.

It really depends on what you do with the machine and how you manage your data. I've used 128GB models for about 2 years now. Still alright.

Hi guys. Just got my MacBook Pro 15-inch Retina mid-2015 model.

My previous Macs were the MacBook Pro 13" Retina 2014 model, and the first-gen of MacBook Pro 15" Retina back in 2012.

What I can say is the main key differentiator now in the latest model is the blazing fast SSD (speeds very much improved from the already-fast SSDs used in previous MacBook Pro Retina models). I just installed Microsoft Office 2016 and it took about much less than 60 seconds to install. Very snappy!

And the Force Touch trackpad is just sublime. The haptic feedback of the normal 'click' and 'force click' makes it feel just like the mechanical click-switches in the previous MacBook Pro trackpads. Thus, I would reckon that the durability of the Force Touch Trackpad is much better than the previous ones too (I remember back in 2010 I read about mechanical click-switch failures in the previous MacBook Pro trackpads due to heavy / rough usage).

Anyway, still looking forward to the MacBook Pro 2016 models which are due to launch early next year. If they offer colour options (Space Grey, Gold, etc.) similar to the MacBook 12" Retina 2015, finally we may see a completely 'new' MacBook Pro. biggrin.gif
