Hi, I just re-connected my hifi system after 4 years collecting dust heheheh.
Actually i was going to start a new thread but seen this topic quite related to my question.

I have been reading lots of articles saying Apple Music Lostless is playing really good quality sound.

my question how to have the best set-up for connecting iphone/ ipad/ macbook air to my hifi system in order to re-produce good sound quality?[SIZE=7]

I've been reading and seen following suggestion from website:
1) AirPlay, need Apple TV
2) To connect using apple "Lightning digital AV adaptor"
3) some other 3rd party accessories.

So far, I got the info from website that connecting with Airplay via Apple TV is the best solution.

I just wondering do all of you playing using Apple Music? Watching Netflix? or still remain to Blu-ray player and CD player for musics and movies?

my set-up as following:

TV Model : Toshiba 32" (from 5 years ago)
Amplifier : Harman Kardon AVR160
Front Speaker : JBL
Center Speaker : JBL
Surround Speaker : JBL
Subwoofer : JBL
Interconnect/Cable : recommendation from hifi shop. about RM800 for 4 speakers wire

Thanks. I bought Apple TV 4K

Now I have another question about connectivity.
My Harman Kardon AVR160 is HDMI 1.3a.
I’ve read that not support 4K.
That’s mean if I connect Apple TV 4K to AVR160, then video signal 4K will not pass through to my 4K TV. Right?

How should I connect?

If your avr cannot pass through 4k. Than just connect Apple TV directly to TV

Hi Sonerin,
I’ve checked that most TV ARC HDMI do not support 5.1 surround. Only Stereo.
With your recommendation mean I lost the high quality sound, right?
Any other solution to this?
Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with ARC, can’t really tell you on that. If
is true that ARC can’t carry multi channel than is best you buy a new AVR

Tv with ARC can pass through 5.1 lossy format like DTS and AC3

Anything more than that you need eARC which will be able to pass through even Atmos.

Most newer TVs support eARC I believe.

I need to check which TV do have eARC.

As I read from internet, eARC need both device eARC compatible.

I have to be honest. What I’ve posted is the theory. Whether it works is another story. The new C9 by LG for example supports eARC but it seems like it isn’t without its own share of issues.

If I were you rather than trying to make ARC work I would retire the almost a decade old AVR160 and get a new receiver.

I’m using the Denon x1500 for a month now and an Super happy with it. It’s a 2.5k investment and will save you from the eARC headache.

And then once you’re ready you can get whatever 4K tv out there as you would already have a proper receiver with Atmos support.

What’s your view on both Klipsch, do you like it and enjoy the movie with them?

How’s the Atmos, is it really a game changer?

Yup, i like the Klipsch speakers! they are great, but not every one like Klipsch because they are using "Horn tweeter" (suggest to try it before purchase). Whereby for the effect of Atmos, i would say ceiling mounted is the best way to go (if possible), i tried that in the showroom (demo set), it was damn nice!. For my case, i still enjoy them (front height, but still cannot compare with ceiling mounted dry.gif )

I'm using a sony x85e and ARC multichannel works but with lossy compression. It's a bit finicky with the order in which devices are turned on and off and you'll need an adaptor / bend certain pins in case you have several HDMI devices connected or the ARC won't activate correctly. When it works, I'm satisfied with it.

Both devices need to be eARC capable to enjoy the benefits but it is backward compatible on paper. How well it works I don't know but if it's anything like ARC, it can be pretty frustrating.

Great, will definitely audition Klipsch vs Elac. Unfortunately i dont have in ceiling option, only top of tower/bookshelf option.
