Seems like u guys are pro in this ht setup. I might be asking in the wrong room, but help me if you can. Planning to move into a new house next year, so wanna buy a ht for the living room.

Budget: rm6k
TV: 55inch minimum, full hd, don't need smart/uhd/curved unless necessary - need recommendation (rm3k)
Sound system: 5.1 setup - need recommendation (rm3k)
Player: currently owns ps3, maybe get ps4 next year. 6k budget doesn't include ps4
Usage: astro hd, dl-ed series/movies in 720-1080p, ps3, music

Question,
1. how to make those integrated system ie; control everything ht, lights, air cond etc through iPhne/ipad?

2. How to setup speakers in diff rooms to play songs from single source eg. Turn on speakers in master bedroom/ study room/ kitchen , to play songs from laptop/PC/iPad/ iPhone. Preferably without wiring. Eg. What I do now is use remote app on my iPhone to control the iTunes on laptop connected to speakers. So I can turn on/off/change songs even when I'm in a diff room. What I want to be able to do is eg. Walk into master bedroom, turn on speaker and play songs from my iPhone. Then later maybe go study room, off the speakers in master and turn on the ones in study room. All controlled by my iPhone. Do-able?

Thank you very much for your kind advices.

maybe you can look into sonos

thats why wanted to ask can the speaker be use on other device?
*
basically it is possible.. need to cut off the connector as that connector is not common.. it will left u with red n black cable which u can connect to other device like ur old stereo amp or component. Investment on an avr for these speaker set not really worth.. in conclusion yes its possible but your option is limited.

hi, need sifu's opinion here. i am new in AV. i've been using a budget yamaha receiver rx-v377 pair with sony floorstander MF550H in 2.0 configuration, specs as below, normally i listen at 60% volume level. my concern is:-
1. Is this okayish pair?
2. will the speaker clipping the amp?

*
its pretty safe that i see.. if 60% vol is moderate level for your listening, it should be good.. if you need to run your avr>80% of the vol then its time to upgrade your avr or to consider power amp.

its amp sending clipping signal to speaker not speaker clipping the amp. In your case it should be fine. But listen to other expert in this thread too..

any other option available other than mouth the speaking on ceiling?  sad.gif

i heard if install speaker either on ceiling or wall, then have to configure the speaker as "Height speaker" instead of "Atmos speaker" (configure in receiver)...if this is the case, it still consider as Dolby Atmos? it become like 7.1...
*
u can try out some upfiring speaker for atmos.. its impossible but difficult. Go to CMY at sunway look for steve. Seek for his advice.. The last show room he had in 1U is using upfiring atmost speaker that reflect from ceiling.

it you plan to do it at home of cos you need to check hows ur ceiling being designed and if the reflection can be done easily without much distortion..same concept applies for sound bar.. complicated engineering..

the best is to do direct mount on ceiling.

atmos do not have height speaker (mount on wall not ceiling on top of your head) but dts x they have height speakers

sad thing is I stay in penang....currently i have 5.1 speaker (plan to upgrade but stick with 5.1 + 2 atmos enable speakers due to space limitation), if i want to enable Dolby Atmos (1 pair), where is the correct placement for the speaker ?

FYI, this is my current speaker placement: center, main L/R, subwoofer, surround back L/R

i have ceiling fan on top, will this consider distortion if using upfiring atmos speaker?

thanks again.
*
if you want to do upfiring then you need to place it on top of your front speaker (LR) for 5.1.2 setup.
user posted image
If you want to place it on the ceiling you can place it on ceiling of where your king seat is.
user posted image

could be an distortion if reflection point on the coverage of the ceiling fan blade.. need to do trial and error..

there's 1 more thing you can do if you r desperated.. get an extension up and hold ur ceiling speaker on the arm.. sort like a lamp extension..

btw which avr r u using? does it support for atmos? have u check on it?

1st of all, thanks alot for all the detail info  smile.gif , can you explain a little bit on "extension up and hold ur ceiling speaker on the arm.. sort like a lamp extension"  rclxms.gif ?

Im using the old receiver (Yamaha RX-V671) and plan to upgrade to Atmos support receiver soon  smile.gif  currently looking at below model:
Onkyo Tx-NR686, Denon X1600H, Yamaha RX-V685
*
something like this
user posted image

just some idea icon_idea.gif

i dont think x1600h is atmos compatible.. even x2600h would required external amp for this purpose.

you might wanna increase ur budget to get at least x3500h if you prefer denon.

Also consider you are increasing your setup from 5.1 to 5.1.2 extra amplication will be required from the avr. If you upgrade to something similar like your existing you wont be playing at the same volume. Performance will drop.

i m using x2000 myself and yet to upgrade considering the cost vs the performance of having 2 extra speaker on the ceiling

hm...according to the Denon, X1600H support Atmos, even with "Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology"  blink.gif (below link)

https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hometheate...ivers/avrx1600h
*
you can check the spec sheet. its marked as -/- for dobly atmos/dts:x

It says Height Virtualization.. its using height channel to virtualized.. better to double check and understand this. I got this from the review
The 7.2 channels can be appropriated in a 5.2.2 configuration for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats, but for those without the extra height speakers, there is DTS Virtual:X onboard for the up-mixing of DTS soundtracks – to give the sense of height. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, which essentially attempts to do the same with Dolby soundtracks, is promised via a future firmware update.

linkWhatHifi
Its like 4k resolution but upscale from FullHD. Its not true 4k.

QUOTE
by the way, i though receiver output power is equally for all channel (except the subwoofer) example 90 W per channel (8 ohms), so for the case if i upgrade similar like what im having now (from Yamaha 671 to 685), it shouldn't have any issue for the performance, right?

by right yes. but these avr doesnt work this way. Read the statement from the page.
Upgrade your home theater with the Denon AVR-X1600H. With 80W per channel (8 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, .08%, 2 ch driven), this performance-tuned Denon AV receiver provides a truly immersive 3D audio experience. Supports Dolby Atmos®, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, DTS:X™ and DTS Virtual:X. Watch your TV or projector video content with the best possible picture thanks to the latest 4K video technologies like Dolby Vision™, HDR10 and HLG.
80W per channel 2 ch driven (8 ohms). If you only have 2 channel u can get the throughput of 80w per channel. If you connect 5 channel then you will not get 80W maybe 60W... if you connect 7 channel maybe you get 40W only. But of course Denon work smarter by giving power to demanding channel as priority. But in short, your power is being divided out.

The best for Atmos is at least X3500 for denon. At least more headroom for your 5.1.2/7.1.

This is important if you r running your setup in a large area/room. If you have small room then you have no issue. If you already running 70db with your 5.1 setup you may need to run 80db when u setup for 7.1/5.1.2

The easiest way not to cut holes in your ceiling is to just do on-walls, high up. It's about as easy as it gets, drill 4 holes - put a bracket, install your speaker - pull your wire.

Example:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

It's leagues better than the silly upfiring method, doesn't cost too much to do and can be done in an hour or so. Clean up is also minimal.

i think there are some mistake on this "spec sheet", i read through the user manual for Denon 1600, it support Atmos, it even show the speaker configuration and placement strategy to enable the Dolby Atmos in the manual
*
Immerse yourself in multi-dimensional audio with Dolby Atmos. Set up Dolby Atmos with a 5.2.2 surround sound speaker system using Dolby Atmos elevation speakers, or dedicated overhead speakers, for the ultimate home theater experience. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization provides immersive audio without height channels, creating virtual height effects in a 7.2, 5.2 or 2.2 speaker arrangement.

yea i could be wrong.. it says 5.2.2. So should not be any prob.

Hi guys,

I am a total newbie at home entertainment, so advice is greatly appreciated!

What is the best value TV for RM800? Do digital TV need an antenna and/or internet? I.e. Can it run without antenna and/or internet?

Thanks!
*
dude u might to start a thread or view other existing thread for tv specific comparison. This thread is more to audio oriented.
digital tuner tv needs an antenna. Without antenna u cannot watch digital channel (8tv, Tv3, RTM1, RTM2)
smart tv needs internet with smart tv it allows u to access to apps like youtube/netflix/iflix etc etc

i will prefer cmy or style laser. They are more HT/Hifi focused.
Since u already narrowed down to X250BT, they to get some demo over Jamo vs Mission see which once you prefer more. Both brands are reputable. Good for a HT starter.

HI all,

Newbie here, Would like to ask your kind advise for sound system.

I am looking at Sony soundbar HT RT40 and Edifier S350db speaker.

I will use them in my living room ( 18ft x 16ft) for movie and music but  noticed that one is with 600watt and another one only 150watts.

which one will be better? sound quality , Edifier will be better? but loud enough to use in living room?

Thanks .
*
i am using S350db in my room.. it play loud and i havent push it to the limit... the downside with this system is i dont know how loud it will max... no indicator for the volume wattage percentage. SD350db give u tight bass considering i upgraded from Edifier C3. Depends on what you are looking S350DB will be nice if ur music oriented.. if u r heavy on movies... 5.1 will be a better choice.. but get something with hdmi input cool2.gif

Hi guys.. i bought a new lf 55c9 oled tv.. i am thinking of upgrading my current puny HT setup. I am using WAF-1 front speakers, X-CS encore centre then no sub as my PSB subseries 125 broke down. All is driven by yamah v475. However as my yamaha unit is an old model which is around for 5yrs, i would like to change to a new model to utilize the potential of my new TV. May i know what is the valuable setup for me? Or should i just go for soundbar for ease of use? I cant add the surround speaker as this setup is in a very small bedroom. and i cant hang my tv on the wall as it is a gypsum board type.

i am actually planning to declutter my space as the new tv will eat up alot of my front space.. so seems like soundbar is a more viable option.. but i am open to possibility.
*
considering the space issue you are facing.. downgrade to soundbar could be an option or slim 5.1 set. give and take you would no longer feeling the power and channel visibility that you have now. Even your 475 is an old model i believe powering only 3 speakers is more than enough. if u still like the sound of ur existing setup just buy a subwoofer and you can do 3.1 just fine.
