I'm currently using the thin white speaker cables which I had for a long time (came with Yamaha package speakers). Any tips on where to get good speaker cables which are reasonably priced? 16 AWG should be good enough right? Maximum run will be 30 feet for rear surrounds. Not looking for fancy stuff but something that has a decent amount of copper.

If you can go Desa HT, they sell Monster cable EZstrip 16awg speaker cables. I think it's rm9 per meter iirc.

Other than that, maybe you can join bulk purchase of a 12awg Belden cable reel.

Try oxygen cable.

Is that a brand or a type of cable? Or you meant oxygen free cable?

Thanks for the recommendation. I will check it out at Desa HT. Where to find details on the bulk purchase for Belden?

For my Atmos speakers, I bought Oxygen from Acoustique Systems (Amcorp Mall) in 2016. Can't remember exactly... around RM 10 to 12 per metre.

I don't know if this post is suitable for this Home Theater Setup thread. Just sharing here because I see some relevance to Home Theater. Anyway, my apologies if out-of-topic in this thread.

Alan Parson was from the British progressive rock band "Alan Parson's Project" (1975 to 1990) who also engineered Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

Here's what Alan Parson spoke about audiophiles....

"Audiophiles don't use their equipment to listen to your music. Audiophiles use your music to listen to their equipment."

7 speakers (that are only average efficiency) running off a v681? Don't agree. Unless you have a small room or don't play loud, that receiver is going to stress itself a lot.

If you're going to only use one receiver for 7 speakers, you're better off getting high efficiency speakers. Look towards Klipsch RP series instead.

Thanks for ur advise guys. Is a 18x18x10 feet height room consider a small room right?

How many times have you seen people with $10,000 speakers, $15000 amps, $5000 speaker cables/power chords but have next to no room treatment? Plenty, I tell you. doh.gif

Yes I'm exaggerating the money point, but seriously... instead of all that thousands of dollars spent on pointless power cables, use 1% of that and go get some diffusers/foams/treatments instead. Instant difference instead of trying to psycho yourself to hear a difference.

There are sooo many materials to read regarding to "expensive vs cheapo" cables such as power cords, speakers cables, digital and analogue cables, etc, etc. My personal belief... Its a time immemorial ongoing debate ever since the word HiFi was invented.

Whichever is your camp, right or wrong... please try NOT to use profanity here. I want the kids to learn about the word "profanity" and how to avoid it but not on how to use them. I am sure people here don't use profanity, am I correct? sweat.gif I don't take any offense but its not necessary and needless in making any statement or opinion.

Here are 2 articles about speaker cables for people to "argue on" !! Oops.. sorry... "argue on" are the wrong words... "think about" would be more appropriate.

Yes, from the same A24i roll as shown in the previous picture which was taken in my place. The seller brought the cable roll when he came to install my Atmos Speakers.

I was told it is Gauge 14.

Size (including insulation) = around 4mm X 4mm for single polarity. +ve and -ve is 8mm X 4mm

Since my Atmos speakers (hung above in front) are not more than 20 feet (6.1 metres), AWG 20 would already be enough for my Atmos speaker (rated at nominal 6 ohms)... this Oxygen AWG 14 cable thickness is more than enough for me. Hehe... maybe too thick for me but no problem since its around RM10 per metre, not expensive loh.

More info about speaker (wire) gauges...
