Kerb weight, Myvi is 950kg, and Alza Advanced is 1120kg. It is indeed a 160kg or 18% more.
However, Myvi has 117Nm torque and Alza 136Nm torque, that's 16% more torque, so it seems sufficient to handle its weight.

Unfortunately I've not been in an Alza before, but I've admired few of them while walking around P2 service center bays.
For the engine noise, what does it sound like? Does it correspond to 2.8k RPM?
One of the things I can think of, could it be the intake hose with the resonating chamber?
*
Torque is mostly to address pickup or acceleration, not to sustain high speed... If you wanna know how it sounds like, get an Alza and rev it to around 2.8k to 3.3k rpm...

It's a common issue of engine noise on pre-facelift Alza, lots of ppl complain about it between 110-130 kph... Beyond that the noise alleviates slightly, so sometimes I rather drive at 140kph... It could be some resonance somewhere, but it's hard to tell, me no expert...

Without torque, there is no hp. If the engine does not have enough torque to bring the car to that speed, then, the power is not produced.

I googled a bit, and most of the comments are from wind and tyre noise when driving at high speed, and as for engine noise, it's the 'hard to reproduce tapping sound'... nothing about engine noise during high speed though.

I don't know anyone driving an Alza willing enough to drive at that speed.
I'm just trying to understand better, and hopefully be able to help. Sorry I asked.

Eithaniusacknowledged. Perhaps someday an Alza lands in front on me and I can give it a try.

Alza would be good car for normal use / family use.. not for racing or high speed.

I have just travelled about 2000km for 5 days last week. From KL > Alor Setar > Ipoh > Cameron > Gua Musang > Kuala Terengganu > Kuantan > KL.

I travelled following the legal speed due to many speed traps now operating. Tyre noise definately better as not stock tyres. Engine noise is noticeable though but for me considered better compared to other local cars.
Wind noise is a on going troubleshooting for me as the rubbers are shrinking due to heat and I park under sun daily.

can't expect much for a RM50k-60k car. but my friend said that it is much better than proton as he sits in both before.

I have tried my alza for 150kph before, but only for few minutes only. Drive safe comes first.

agree to your statement bro. I tried my alza up to 140kph, though noisy (not as much as the roaring of Saga BLM) but the noise level is bearable for me. the car is design for normal use, the design and it's shape already told us.

yep, torque is meant for pickup (to bring the mass up to speed), i drove my alza into the region of 2.8 and 3.3k rpm, yep, it feels comparatively noisy when the rpm venture into this range, but it's still bearable. A bit OOT, If you do some reference to myvi 1.5 torque curve, i bet you will not go into any rpm between 3k-4k region, the torque is relatively flat during this region, i.e rpm goes up, torque doesn't go up. the tuning for p2 engine are quite emphasis on low - mid torque, as the expense of high speed output. Proton goes different way (compare to P2).

I think with current Alzas there's been some improvement in terms of noise insulation... But for the 2010 models, engine noise is terrible, and coupled with wind and tyre noises, it's actually hazardous... Few times the noise wore out my ears and felt fatigue driving long distance fighting to stay awake... There was once I dozed off for a few seconds driving on a highway... Long distance not taking about from Kedah to JB, it's just from Melaka to KL, less than 2 hours drive...

It was after I did some sound proofing that things improved somewhat, but the engine noise was still apparent...

Suffice to say, it's the worst Perodua car I've driven out of 5... I may not have the experience of current Proton cars, but my previous experiences with Wira 1.6 and Perdana V6, those are more comfy to drive...

Bridgestone Ecopia, as good as PS3 but cheaper. My experience bunga tahan lama since I drive about 120km a day. PS3 is like princess tyre, bunga cepat habis.

Noticed that Alza spec is 185/55/R15, Bridge stone ECOPIA is 195/55/R15.

Could I fit 195/55/R15 onto 185/55/R15 RIM? (Sorry, my general knowledge on car is basically....extremely elementary level)

EithaniusDid you do firewall soundproof? That's the most important one, IMO, for engine noise reduction.

Go straight to betamek factory in rawang..i got mine changed to a brand new there..but im using a myvi..

I did that on the advice of Perodua Service centre. My hands free would not download the contact list from my phone. After trying several phones of differend brands! So i took one day leave. When I got there, was treated like an idiot by very unhelpful and to my mind unknowledgeable staff.

They said software got problem. Would take one or two weeks to fix; that was 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting. It seems like the media unit is a lousy product as others having different problems. Anyone else got problems with hands-free?

BTW my Alza Advanced is just 6 weeks old, n already need to go back for replacement parts to stop load knocking noise :-( Another 1 day leave used up, although they did fix immediately n now running well. rclxms.gif

I am now at perodua sc segambut, awaiting them to reset / rectify my alza alarm, it kept trigger the alarm once I lock the car.
Regarding screen, my GPS this morning frozen on me, I had to do a hard reset on it this morning. Bluetooth hands free same as you, does not download contact. Guess have to wait for newer update to fix this software issue. Perodua sc segambut said the screen was done by another vendor, for faster servicing its better I drive to subang to look for vendor as if I let perodua sc settle for me need to wait longer.

As for body works, 3rd party bodyworks contractor look into my alza damaged and charged rm600-800. Am still waiting to see how much perodua sc will charge me.

Be careful as I got same advice from pj sc about my hands free. Took day leave and travel all d way to Rawang, paying all d tolls, only to be told they cannot do. Perodua should have known about this problem and not sent me on a wild goose chase. I am currently persuing via their customer relations, but barely satisfactory.

I suggest you phone first n make sure they can help you before you waste your time and money!

icon_question.gif Also can you make a fuss about hands free - I think Betamac are not taking the matter seriously hmm.gif

Good luck with all your repairs. I hope your car soon looks like new again!

Thx mate, so far i rarely use the hands free contact to dail numbers but just phone calls. My only issue is the gps kept lagging the system too much, and User Interface lagging.

But I can bare with all this at the moment, worst come to worst I'll just discard the original screen and install a good brand in.
