Give your radiators a good rinse/wash and see the water that comes out of it. If it's got bits and pieces or any weird stuff, you have a corrosion issue on your hands. Anyway bro, better get your aquamax block changed out with something new. The aluminium is giving you problems.

Only issue with the XSPC Photon is that on the longer sized res, the light tube has fall off if you just use one LED so you'll need two LEDs.

Already change the CPU WB,but the new one is cooper/plexi. Should be no problem right if combine with GPU WB nickel plexi?
I flush my rad with tap water, and then rinse with distilled water. There is some flake come out,but only small quantity. Is it ok if i reuse back the rad?
I checked my GPU WB, there is some minor corrosion cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Try the vinegar or ketchup method better. You'll scratch it if you sand it.

Wash your radiator with a vinegar + water mixture. Then wash with a lot of tap water then distilled. Check for leaks, if no leaks then you're good.

NEVER sand paper your nickel block. You'll just ruin the nickel plating.

btw, your water block plating is damaged bro, still can use, but check it every time you do maintenance. Your new CPU waterblock will be okay, but you'll have to really clean out the stuff that was in the loop with the aluminium block. Clean everything.

If you're really afraid, use a corrosion blocker.

PC water cooling specific corrosion blockers are not common in Malaysia, so those who really want to use it end up resorting to buying car coolant and using a small amount of it in their loop.

EK Water Blocks, Ljubljana based premium water cooling gear manufacturer, is excited to give you first glimpse of the upcoming EK-Ascendancy water cooling system control board which has been in development for the past 12 months. The unit is design to work in conjuction with EK-Ascendacy software interface for Microsoft® Windows® but can also operate in standalone mode.

With three integrated presets and plethora of customized profiles this unit is capable of controlling your computer cooling system exactly as you want it. Powered by world renown CPUID monitoring library the EK-Ascendacy and it's Microsoft® Windows® based application is the ultimate solution for any avid computer water cooling enthusiast.

Hardware features:
- direct drain FET water cooled voltage regulation module (VRM)
- up to 150W sustained power capable VRM
- standard 6-pin PCI-Express power connector ensures
- control a 4-pin molex / 3-pin DC (up to 40W) or 4-pin PWM capable water pump
- control up to 8 4-pin PWM or 3-pin DC fans (15W each)
- connect any industry standard flow meter (pulse sensing)
- monitor up to 10 thermal probes (NTC thermistor)

Software features:
- Microsoft® Windows® based application
- Modern, easy and intuitive user interface
- Custom profile creation, editing and management - from fan hysteresis to flow meter pulse tuning
- CPUID SDK support allows monitoring of all vital parameters of your computer
- Logging function of all parameters

The unit is now in validation phase where all potential flaws will be ironed out. EK will offer both full- as well as light 5.25" drive bay version without the front facing LCD and interface.

The light version without the front facing LCD will be available by early March 2014, pricing is yet to be announced. It is worth noting this product is completely designed and - like nearly all EK Water Blocks products - manufactured in Slovenia, Europe!
But it sounds like a (possibly) cheaper version of the aquaero if you ask me. tongue.gif

The Level 10s I see are just simple loops with nothing extremely fancy or modified. The case itself is not very mod friendly, if you ask me.

If you bought from APES, hit them a PM and see if you can exchange it with something else. They were nice enough to let me swap with other stuff in their stock when I had the issue with mine.

Perhaps some simple theme like black + some shiny silver, or black chrome, very mild lighting =D mysterious, hence attractive. with some acrylic tubing for extremely clean setup XD tongue.gif color theme is something like Paultan Dark Knight project on COSMOS II ~

somebody say the VRM need some cooling too and the small chip at front

so, must use the full cover water block?
or a gpu water + some headsink for VRM and the small chip??

Minimum for your setup should be 360mm. If you're overclocking both, I recommend get 360mm & 240mm radiators.

If you get a full cover water block, the VRM and whatever that small chip in the front is, will be covered. If you go for a universal water block, then you'll need to find heatsinks or other methods of cooling, though will not be as effective as a full cover.

How cold do you want to go? With the OC-ed CPU, you should be hitting around 55 - 60 degrees on a 240 rad. Plugging in the 290 and OC-ing that, expect to see temperatures of possibly about 65-75 (guessing here) on both your CPU and GPU if running both on 240mm.

IMHO, throw in at the very least a 360 rad. If you already have the 240, get another 240/360. skip a 120mm.

Well, for any heat sink to be efficient in cooling anything, it needs to have air flow around it. So have fans in your case that moves air through your case if you're gonna get heat sinks.

In some cases, like mine, there's pretty much zero air flow for the case environment, except from the radiator fans which I feel isn't enough for any form of passive cooling of components so all my stuff either is water cooled or has some form of heat conduction to something else.

I don't think you'll be able to do extended gaming or OC your GPU with just passive heatsinks.

But bro, do this. Calculate the cost of buying heatsinks + thermal pad/thermal adhesieve and the universal block and compare it to buying a single full cover water block. If the price difference is not something you can afford or want to pay for, then in some way you already have your answer. laugh.gif

used to do that since older days... but now with the calculations of positive af case vs negative af case, i can see that negative af case benefits alot because you always get new air, while open air cause air turbulence/ spin in the same place thus receiving back same temp air instead of fresh air, my 2 cent though.

I use some of the modding car theories in pc since both are physics related brows.gif

Well, if you can get a good flow through your case, and balance out the flow, you'd actually be perfectly ok. Did it before and damped the intake with DIY air filters. Got pretty good temps, and that was on air. thumbup.gif

And car theories are not always relevant to water cooling here. haha. But hey, what theories you using? Interested to know. smile.gif

the way car engine block being cooled off is the same theory with our wc here. But cars have bigger advantage as they move around the air flow into bay through reservoir where speed is in their favor.

some people are crazy enough to get car radiator and better pump to cool off their comp system, there are bunch of people do that.

while the damped intake with DIY air filter you mention can be similar to car intake filter(where in car its necessary as if not carbon will build up).

in fan movement theory, front case is intake, while the back act as exhaust, top or back can be intake or output, where what i can say is floor air temp is always lower than top.

currently im running :

asus gtx770
4670k i5 oced to 4.6ghz synced core with turbo and speedstep enabled ( 35 Celsius on idle / 75 Celsius on full load)
* i dislike the 75 Celsius, so i hit it back down to 1.2v and see what i can do with that volt, ends up 4.3 ghz with (35 Celsius idle / 50+ ~ 60 Celsius on full load)
cosair dominator 4x8 quad channel kit

ekwb supremacy lc nickle + acetal
ekwb blood red coolant
cosair sp120 high performance twin fan for rads
ekwb 240 thick radiators
ekwb res with d5 pump
bitspower high compression fittings which cost me rm50 per piece * 6 rclxub.gif
cosair fan with 3.0mm /h20 static pressure ( the fan h100i using)

currently there is 3 fan pulling air into case, while 3 pushing out.

It's not perfect yet... but im still modding and tweaking along the way.

1 bottle makes 1 litre of coolant. When you flush/clean/rinse your loop, keep track of how much water you use. Or premix the concentrate in a bottle then pour the mix into your loop. smile.gif

I got RX360, RX240, 250z reservoir and my loop requires around 1.5L of coolant. Pristine said it makes 1L so should be enough I guess. It also depends on your tubing length, if you longer tubes then surely you will need a little bit more laugh.gif

Pretty much the same really. But use it in push. Some fans give out a hum when in pull, like my noiseblocker e loops.

i did research in that as i hav previous question, seems that pristine bro using push method and im also...

push : pulling air from a bigger environment allows pressure to build up from back and pushing air into rads fins seems better

pull: pulling air from rads fins into bigger environment will be less ideal, due to the theory that the air pressure is unable to build up in front of rads and less air volume to be gathered.

im looking for performance price balance here in setting up another rad and block for my 290. im fine with 50-60c @full lpad on my 290. but must be in overclock setting.

btw im using corsair 500r. afraid I cant fit in another 240 without modding. any idea on the type of 240 that I should get?
*
as i can see top and beside hdd cage of 500r can be mounted 2 120mm fan, aint it?

i did research in that as i hav previous question, seems that pristine bro using push method and im also...

push : pulling air from a bigger environment allows pressure to build up from back and pushing air into rads fins seems better

Only reason I'm using my fans in push is coz my setup is rather weird, and three of my fans make a hum when in pull. Might change my bottom fans to pull though. see how.

Also, even though on paper it allows for 2x 120mm fans, it does not mean it'll accommodate a 240mm radiator. Sometimes, the space just isn't there. Like unequalteck said, probably gotta remove the HDD cage, unless can find a short (in terms of length) radiator.

Not much difference, push or pull you probably see around few degrees difference. Its better to go with pull config to make your life easier when it comes to cleaning. Else you can go for both push + pull config like what I did with mine since space isnt an issue. Cleaning however will be a pain in the ass in the future.

Yeah, this is what people mostly base whether to push or pull on. laugh.gif But can't always have pull. Depends on the fan. I get stupid humming fans when pull.

someone locally did a review on that.
Push+pull vs push vs pull vs push with shroud.
not so much different.just minor drops only.

precisely, besides push+pull, unless you can sync both fans rpm, its pointless,

1)the 1st fan rpm high, but 2nd fan rpm low, 2nd fan cant push all air from 1st fan quick enough
2)the 2nd fan rpm high, but 1st fan rpm low, 1st fan is unable to pull more air compare to the air 2nd fan is going to pull

even if you sync both fan

1 * 1 amount of air, still = 1

anyway, minor improve everyday makes huge dif in tmr, aint that right? =]

Actually, it won't matter about the rpm sync. Both still will rotate at similar rated speeds and will catch up with each other all the same. And no, RPMs of SAME fans are NEVER the same. Rated on paper the same, but when you run them, the speeds you get can vary. It's doh.gif

My SGTs are fine. Only happens to E-Loops, I think. And maybe a few others.

Martin was the one who tested. Bundy doesn't really test alot of stuff. Mostly simple reviews/unboxings. Martin's more technical.

Yeap thats right, only reason why I run push + pull so that I can run at a much lower rpm but still able to push sufficient air through it for optimal silence. But then pump & psu makes more noise than the fan now doh.gif Need to get RM series psu & not sure about the pump haha. Didn't had noise previously, maybe there is air bubble stucked in it doh.gif

RM series. lol. Are they really the quietest in the market now?

Air bubbles in the pump are the worst.

You can always dual pump and put low rpm. brows.gif laugh.gif

Not sure about the noise but I believe it is since corsair hand pick the components to ensure there is no coil whining components in it. Hard to say la but should be better than my stupid silverstone tongue.gif Dont feel like changing too since made custom cables for it already. Oh well, just go with the flow...

Wont be able to do that, only have space for 1 pump. Pump is under the psu cover so super hard to squeeze another pump in there laugh.gif

As 500R have a shroud on top of it, fan can be screw under the shroud. But in front of the case I think he must remove the HDD cage OR he can try to mount it on the side of the HDD cage which I think not really possible cuz r9 290 is a long card

Those who like their Scythe GTs better grab them before they start disappearing off the shelves. There's a possibility the GT will be no longer produced and replaced by the grand flex fans.

Copper radiators + Colour based Coolants.

Mayhems have been looking into a reported issue about the Red based coolants changing colour (Red to Dark Red and Black to Brown). This is a very rare issue but has been narrowed down a certain type of radiator.

When testing we found that just adding water and leaving overnight will turn the water Acidic meaning that either the rads have not been flush or somehow there is still acid left in the system. When acid is left on copper and air is introduced (in particular oxygen) it will create Copper Oxide over time. Copper Oxide is Blue / Green and this has a negative effect on colour coolants and will also have a negative effect on all coolants over time. (in the picture you can see a rad that has been not been cleaned turning the red coolant a deeper colour)

So say a Red coolant exposed to Copper Oxide it will start turning Dark Red (Red + Blue / Green = Dark Red). If Black is exposed Copper oxide it will turn Brown (Purple + Yellow + Copper Oxide = Brown)

It is imperative that rads are flushed properly and before use. If air is somehow trapped in a rad and the liquid is somehow acidic then once again copper oxide is created and again it will affect any coolants in the system. Some coolants do not react well with copper oxide and could over a period of time have an issue.

If somehow air is trapped in your rad end tank and the liquid is acidic once again it will produce copper oxide and once again this will affect any coolants in your system. Always make sure you remove all air out of you system and bleed them correctly.

Always flush your system fully and correctly and sometimes water alone does not do it. If you are going to acid clean your system using vinegar then you must neutralize that acid afterwards. You can use bicarbonate of soda to help do this or head down to your local aquarium shop and ask for animal safe products to bring the PH level back into neutral.

Also on a side note never add Copper Sulfate Biocide to Pastel as again the above will happen and if you have used copper sulfate in your system before using red pastel make sure you flush it out correctly.

Oh. I know where your coolant came from. laugh.gif

Anyway, when the first time you saw it, was it fully bled out? Coz otherwise the colour looks thicker when there's air inside. Also, pastel tends to pale. It is a pastel colour, after all.

All mayhem coolants have biocide in the composition, so you won't have to worry about algae. However, pastel white WILL stain. My white delrin reservoir has stains from being used with pastel. It's like all other white stuff. Colour runs and yellows/dulls.

Well, they say the Grand Flex fans are meant to replace the Scythe GT, but the Grand Flex are not going to be cheap. Already they're charing RM60/pc for GT which is dual ball bearing, I doubt it'll be cheaper for a proper FDB fan (not like Arctic F12s). Also in their write up they compare to sleeve bearings. Of course la better! doh.gif

On paper, the 1600 RPM Grand Flex fans are comparable to the 1850 RPM GTs (the ones we normally get). Slightly less static pressure on paper (VERY VERY slightly less), but pushes more air at a small increase in dBA levels. The top end 2000 RPM Grand Flex beats the Grey 2150 GT in terms of air volume, static pressure and is louder. Let's not compare with the black GTs which no one really sees or hears about.

Some reading material if you guys are interested:

Scythe Grand Flex Fans
Scythe GT Data

Also, in case you guys think I'm bluffing. tongue.gif

Regretfully, both Nidec and Scythe have decided not to continue their business relationship.

We will not be able to fulfill your Gentle Typhoon order.
We will be promoting the new Grand Flex fans. These are supposedly better than the Gentle Typhoons.
We need to get the message out to the public. I should have some samples by early next month.
By the way, Scythe reserves the right to the name Gentle Typhoon.
That means Nidec can’t sell the product to anybody with our label, our package, our brand and etc. attached to it.

Thank you.

Best Regards,
Hank Peng
SCYTHE, Inc.

TLDR;

Grand Flex has potential to be better than Gentle Typhoon, but I don't expect it to perform as solidly as the Gentle Typhoon or work exceptionally well in certain conditions or come cheap.

Yeah, from me. haha! You shouldn't see plasticiser from using acrylic tubing. But algae is a possibility if the biocide effect runs off.

You CAN add dye into pastel. In fact, Mayhems dye is compatible with pretty much all their products. They use white base and dye to make all sorts of colours. Just not advisable to add biocide to your pastel coolant (or any Mayhems coolants for that matter).

BTW, UV reactive white, IINM has a slight yellow tinge compared to ice white, causing it to look not as bright as ice white.

Alex bought it from pristine via me laugh.gif There is nothing to worry about plasticizer, thats the advantages of using acrylic tubing biggrin.gif

You can add dye into it, shouldn't be a problem but I dont see why you would want to add dye to white pastel. If the colour combination didn't turn out to your liking then you are stucked with whatever colour you have laugh.gif Dye contains just dye, it should be safe. Just dont need to add biocide.

Usually we use dye for distilled water like in my loop smile.gif

haha no wonder~~ despite its little yellow on the morning it still is a beauty at night. Can't stop looking at it before going to bed haha.
Neways the lifespan should be roughly around 2-3 years right? But should change loop once in every 5-6months?

Good to know you like the colour.

2-3 years is actually kinda possibly overexpecting. Lifespan is about a year-ish. You don't NEED to flush/clean/rinse your loop unless you have a good reason to, but it's a good habit if you wanna just check to see if everything is fine. Or if you've got temperature issues and want to see the cause.

Some guys run maintenance on their loops once a year or once after 18 months. Depends.

Just keep an eye on your coolant, you'll need to top up after awhile due to evaporation.

ohhh so I guess I should wait and see. biggrin.gif When got enough fund to add on 2nd rad that time then need to flush ba. Btw those coolant once is removed from the system then can't be used already right? smile.gif
Also I read somewhere on Mayhem website state that the coolant is toxic hence not suitable to just flush into toilet or drain, how to dispose it then?

Yeah. When you add a 2nd rad, clean your loop.

If you want to reuse, can. But make sure it's clean and looks the same as day 1.

Locally I don't know any "safe" way to dispose of the coolant. Overseas they have their rules and stuff. Here, I'd just say dilute it with A LOT of water and just flush it in the drain/toilet. sweat.gif

SP vs GT, IMHO, about the same. Just different bearing technology and reliability. I'd pick the GT though for performance/reliability. SP for looks.

SGT > Corsair SP in terms of performance vs noise. Aesthetics wise Corsair SP > SGT no doubt.

Price wise, they both are about the same. So it depends on you.

* I have used SP performance edition, quiet edition & also SGT. SGT pushes a lot of air at lower noise (although still a bit noisy for me), Corsair SP Performance edition pushes as much air as SGT but with the sound of a jet and Corsair SP quiet edition pushes decent amount of air at a very silent noise. Run it at 10v and its like not running at all, you cant hear it at all.

Oh! Thanks sifuss biggrin.gif

another question. Do i need to clean my cpu and gpu block after I drain my loop?
I drain my loop 3 months ago and I only clean my radiator.
Then I put gpu,cpu block and radiator in sealed box.

Yeah I got the kit as well, kinda hard to use the paper. Not accurate and seems like no effect on the paper or at least quite hard to differentiate it against the chart. I didnt bother much either, got myself a ph meter instead.

Not many choices for GOOD high static pressure fans that don't lie on specs sheet. That's one of the reasons I opted for low density radiators. Less FPI, but more choices when it comes to fans. Then to make up for the loss of performance from being a low density rad, just get a thick one. icon_rolleyes.gif

How did you get your temperature readings? Before Windows boot or after? Also, idle temperatures can actually match room temps. I got mine 1-2 degrees lower than my room temperature before. But that's idle temps.

If GT can have the white coloured fans I'll go for it biggrin.gif Dono why I love the colour contrast of White and Black fans. :/ Personal preference I guess biggrin.gif
I was thinking of spraying the SP120 fans to white but I'd guess that'll spoil the performance ba doh.gif

You can spray a thin layer of white paint, it'll be fine. Just make sure the finish is smooth. irienaoki and unequalteck have painted their fans before.

Use plasti dip if you are afraid regarding performance. If you notice any major changes in temps you can always peel that layer off.

People usually either use T-blocks, valves, fillports, rotaries, or a combination of them.

Try niclasteoh. I don't think he's in kota kinabalu, but he's in EM.

I dont think it would be any problem... perhaps if u have some "seredak" (dont know what it is in English), then there would be some problem if u start ur system without cleaning it first.. i left my loop more than a month using EKs coolant, no problem

I think the word you're looking for is sediment, right? Like if there's like sandy or flakes of dust/etc in the coolant, right?

Niclasteoh: Koolance R9 water block. But it's about RM500.

OR

APES: EKWB water block. Not sure how much.

Two options.

Mayhems white coolant (pastel premix/concentrate)

OR

Ice Dragon white nano fluid.

Its fine according to ASUS but personally I wouldn't use it. If the layer/coating fails, got scratched or anything happened. Corrosion problems might rise, probably I am being paranoid? Just wouldn't take the risk since wc parts isn't cheap.

Anodizing is tough stuff. If ASUS used the hard anodizing, it'll take more than water flow to scratch it or anything. Plus, anodizing is not a coating or plating like nickel plated stuff. It's a chemically treated metal.

Yes if its done right, I do hope their QC is high. Remember when back in those days swiftech gtx was anodized? Remember how many stories we start to hear? There is a reason why other brands such as EK, xspc, etc all dont use aluminum anymore. Anyhow, just add anti-corrosion to be on the safe side.

I think there is a forumer called "fake sheep" selling it. if u want bright, get a 5050 led strip, where one large LED has 3 small leds in it. u could get it in auto accessories shops. or lighting shop, or sign board shop. just solder it with 2 wires (i used 18awg wires). FYI u can get this wires from infernoswan

Yes, the RM280 one is full reel. Just need minor mod to solder molex connector to it.

Heat gun is optional, but will be cheaper to buy heat gun locally. Plus the locally available heat gun would be better quality.

Yes, due to higher resistance.
But generally static pressure fans are for radiators.

i wonder.. if the tubing becomes like that, what will happen inside wb? is there some clog inside wb? or is it just because of the "plactic" use to built the tubing, so only the tubing becomes like that?

You can always open up your waterblock & clean it. Since you already drain the loop etc then might as well open up to clean it. Just make sure you fix it back properly e.g o-rings all in proper position...etc

Once again , specially thanks to Pristine for helping me all the way , from planning to setting up.

This is my first water-cooling rig , as well as my first attempt to install water-cooling. I learnt quite a lot of things while installing the water-cooling parts to my rig. A lot of patience is needed , i drained 3 times before my final settlement. sweat.gif From planning to installing , the excitement and fear is always there. Thanks to all for answering my question before. Sorry for being to talkative and troublesome.

Pic of my pc now. smile.gif

*
u have to push the pin out from the 4 pin molex, beside each of the metal molex pin consist 2 outward bending clip to prevent slipping out from the molex. pin it in, take it out, then change the header to 3 pin fan header..

and you can get the fan header from me laugh.gif

but you will need to cut the molex pins & replace it with the fan header pins and if the cable is too thick you might need to use a 22awg wire instead else it wouldn't crimp properly. Easy job la, can be done in 10mins smile.gif

Can check my thread, I got post guide for crimping the pins to the wire.

On the molex there is 2 wire, the middle 1 should be black (0v GND) and the one the the furthest end should be yellow (+12v). The 12v should replace the red wire on the fan header & the 0v should replace the black wire. You can ignore the yellow wire, no need yellow wire since this is not a fan.

u need to change the pin to smaller type one.
it s better to do it traditional way.
cut the led wires and any unused fans wires (3pin) and joint them together.
just make sure u know where are the 12v and ground located and insulate the connection with heatshrink or tape.

Yeap can do the manual way, hardwire it & use wire tape if you dont mind the looks of the cables.

If do wrongly also no problem, the led just wont light up. Just switch the cables if it doesn't light up.

Should use a plastic washer and a proper nut for better tightness. The spacer's good though. thumbup.gif

You can spray on direct, just use a primer before you spray the colour. Was the fittings wish soap water to get rid of any oils first.

Hey guys, I'm building my first water cooled gaming rig, and I would appreciate Any advise that you pros can give. I'm thinking of getting a XSPC D5 Photon AX360mm kit plus a Razor GPU waterblock for my 290X. But a Kraken X60 for CPU and Kraken X40/G10 combo for GPU also sounds good especially price wise. Or is there a better alternative?

Btw whoever who has WCed their GPUs especially 290/290X please let me know what kind of temps and performances you're getting. Would love to see how it performs.

Thanks.

To be honest, the order of your loop doesn't really matter at all. Just go for whichever simplifies your tubing management and make sure that your pump never runs dry.

Better set the pump after rad,so that the hot water will enter radiator first.

Actually pump should always be after reservoir to prevent the pump from ever running dry. Other than that, it's basically up to the ease of tubing routing.

As far as I know, backplates are purely for aesthetic purposes. But I think there are some that serve to dissipate heat as well. Not too sure about support though. PM me for more details regarding the WB.

Really universal? I thought for 660 only. Hm.

Backplates offer support and aesthetics. Some have passive cooling and if you buy the aquacomputer titan backplate, its got active cooling.

It's universal. The 660 part is actually the additional VRM waterblock that sucks massive balls. I disconnect it and threw it away. -.-
