i personally felt 20mm F/2.8 optics not good for the large-megapixels
it works fine with the d700 but not for the D800
*
Then I guess I'm glad mine is a D700 instead of a D800 then laugh.gif
I was expecting the lens to be soft, but after some testing, the lens seems to be the sharpest of the three in the center. Might not be the same case in the corners, but there's still pleny of detail to keep me happy, more importantly the size & weight of these retro lenses compared to their modern counterparts. nod.gif

20mm is nice for FX body. Tried before with D700 during events last year, not the best choice i'd say. Too much hassle to change lens between wide and zoom so i pretty much stuck 80200 on the D700 through the night laugh.gif

On what body? It helps to remember to use the cross sensors. In terms of speed, not all AF-S motors are created equal. The ones on the 24mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 are one of the slowest.  sad.gif

Small motor to move big glass, can't compare against those telephoto with big motor to move big glass (well relative to the size la tongue.gif).

Didn't have the 20mm f/2.8 before. I still have the AF-D 20-35mm f/2.8 zoom though. Obsolete and Nikon replaced it with AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8 and now the AF-S 16-35mm f/4 VR.

Anyway, nice lens and spend most of it's time on my D700 as my walkabout lens. Now on the D800, I use the 14-24mm f/2.8 and interchange it with the 24-70mm f/2.8.

Don't know if it's correct or not but I guess there are different grades / sizes of AF-S motors. I guess the 24mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 are using same motor?

I do know however that the AF-S motor in the 17-35mm f/2.8 and the AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8 are the same. I know the AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8 has blinding speed on AF but I guess the same also for the 17-35mm f/2.8? No chance to test that.

This one need to ask shinchan since he has the 17-35 f/2.8, me only using the tiny 16-35 f/4 LOL and its pretty slow compared to 70-200 VR2.

As far for the AF, 24-70 and 70200 have blazing speed minus the telephoto primes. The rest i've used are big aperture lens... and pretty slow.

I read about the softness too, but then I checked DXOmark, and strangely enough, 20mm scored higher on D610 than on D700, somehow the higher resolution makes the lens sharper or something =.=''

Not sure how DXOmark calculates stuff, makes this old lens pretty promising though

The 200mm f/2.0 VR is a different league of sharpness and speed altogether. Perhaps the same too with the other tele primes.

Yeah, somehow the sensor makes for a better DXOMark score. That is why even though Canon has better lenses generally but when a Nikon lens is coupled with a Nikon sensor, the results tend to swing in Nikon's favour.

both slightly diff but i was copy the the basic idea from [PF] T.J. detail u can see from the flickr

Lens - tamron sp90
Aperture - f/16
Shutter Speed - 1/200 secs
ISO - depend to the place

Flash fired at 1/32

this time not really go for magnification liao, just crop the photo if want higher magnification.
*
although it is cropped, but i can say it is absolutely flawless man. awesome! thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Thanks man! notworthy.gif
Inside forest even more mosquitoes x100 oh! laugh.gif Definitely need long sleeves, shirt and cap; and if possible, gloves too laugh.gif
But do be careful of snakes if you are not walking along paths. Better avoid mangroves unless if there's platforms like in Matang, since most of Malaysia's most venomous snakes are there laugh.gif

Well, its understandable la haha, even I am slacking after taking so damn much macro shots over the pass few weeks haha XD Looking forward to shooting portraits again even though I'm not very good tongue.gif

Keep it up! Looking forward to more photos from you~

Did some more testing today after I came back from work, turns out the lens has quite severe field curvature.

What this means is if the center is focused at 0.7m, the edges require pulling back the focus to 0.4m to get the sharpest result, which is actually quite comparable to the center sharpness. (Testing is done with a wall btw)

This amount varies for different distances, guess I'll just have to work around this quirk to fully utilize it.
