QUOTE(onemilimeter @ Jul 23 2008, 11:29 AM) My family in Malaysia did a FedEx shipment to UK, which cost them around RM592. I received the parcel two weeks ago. Today, I received a letter from FedEx saying that I still owed them GBP56.20 (duty/taxes charges) as follows: [Value Build Up Details] Freight Charges - GBP197.25 (but in fact it's only RM592) VAT Value Adjustment - GBP6.69 Invoice Total - RM500 (exchange rate: 6.3803) Administration Fee - GBP6.80 Do you think I can ask FedEx to waive this payment because all the stuffs in the shipment are OLD or USED stuffs? Kindly advise. yes u can. u need a letter from the university that certifies u're a current student. u can get this from the student help desk. then u write a letter to the customs requesting to waive the tax/duty charges. state that all the items are used items belonging to u, and the reason u brought them into the UK is to assist in ur studies etc. detail out every bit of item in the parcel. mention that u just started studying, using the letter as a proof (the letter has a start date). they'll waive the fees. dont worry about it.

QUOTE(sense_less143 @ Jul 24 2008, 04:49 PM) Is 96 pounds for halls fees per week expensive? Is it en-suite? If yes, then its a normal rate. But if not, that's quite expensive. I don't know what the current student hall rates are but I'm speaking fom the point of view of a person who left university 2 years ago.

Since there's a topic "Studying in the UK", so it's not necessary for me to post a new topic.
I would like to ask, besides Sheffield, which other cities have a lot of Malaysian students?
Another question. Can an undergraduate/postgraduate student have a credit transfer to any UK universities from any local universities (private or gov) for 2nd or 3rd year?

Cardiff and Birmingham as well but is decreasing. In Cardiff, if you met a malay from malaysia, majority study either medic or engineer, if chinese usually study law or pharmacy. that was the distributions years back. Birmingham used to be a place with most sabahan 4 years ago. Not now anymore. azarimy missed Nottingham Uni.
