find on ebay and get it shipped. I would suggest you to replace both the fans also replace thermal compound too after cleaning. This will solve your problem (y)

P.S. you can also check on taobao.com. If you find it thr.. you can get it shipped from china through taobao agents on LYN. Shipping from China is cheap.

Managed to get the fan up and running, after a whole afternoon of tearing apart and putting some WD-40. rclxms.gif

But still ,the fan is making some significant noise, gonna find a trusted seller to order the fan part. sweat.gif

Another thing is how come the difference in prices of the fans on Ebay and Taobao are so huge? shocking.gif

sorry i am not sure about this. you can check the seller's reputation (diamond, crown) crown is superior than diamond; the more diamonds or crowns the more reliable the seller is. i was lucky when i got my stuff there. they were genuine. (from diamond and crown sellers)

hey guys,

just a quick question, is the alienware aurora alx worth it? it seems too heavy/bulky to my liking.

I'm planning to sell off my AW17 with 780m gtx and use the money to buy a small high performance desktop. (mitx sized) but the aurora alx looks menacing.

Not stable... probably firmware issue. I am experimenting anyway biggrin.gif Also netgear nighthawk and asus AC68U are the top of the line AC routers for now.

aurora alx is much spacious imo. i have aurora standard. to me it's sufficient for now; and the size is not that bad. still in the process of adding stuff.

desktops should have plenty of space to house stuff. that's why it's bulky. don't even think about carrying it around. it's heavy biggrin.gif

Firstly its electronic so there will be definite limited shelf life. Secondly due to implementations of newer technologies (e.g. Change of cpu sockets, compatible chipsets; gpu socket types, etc.), this will limit upgradeability also. Thirdly i dont think you still wanna use it after a few years because the performance of newer models simply are better than old ones.

To me a better indicator is the limit of warranty by manufacturer (i think the max is 5 years for aw)

As for the details of scope of warranty that they can provide, its better to ask sales reps. They should know best.
*
yeap max 5 years warranty. But is that really indicating the limit of lifetime for aw system? I often wondering do they still able to repair or having spare parts for a >3 years old system?
for example m17x r1 / r2 ?

you see, 5 years is what dell can offer. after that it's a bonus, but you're on your own. >3yrs is <5yrs so they should have parts in their warehouse.

if a system is beyond 5 years, most probably it's beyond economical repairs (meaning if you wanna repair it you need to pay a huge sum to do that. with that sum of money you might as well get a new one)

as for the actual lifetime of aw system, no one can be sure about that because it depends on individual usage. if handled properly, it might last for more than 5 years. if you tell me you abuse the system like nobody's business, then is lifespan is much shorter. shorter by how much? don't know.

I want to use DDWRT. But somehow my internet does not work on DDWRT. Probably messed up some settings which is why I got back on stock ROM for nighthawk by netgear which doesn't perform THAT well.

oh that. i'm not familiar with ddwrt. however i think issues can happen between the two (i.e. wifi router and/or wifi card).

the simplest route: call dell to report the issues; go through the trouble shooting process with tech support via phone calls; if it's confirmed that it's hardware related, and parts are available, dell will send technical personnel to attend to your case.

of course you can try to solve it yourself with members' feedback here but at least give us more clues, such as what happened before your screen is flickering (e.g. driver updates? the laptop hit something?); how does it flicker? is gpu overheating, causing artifacts?

screen shots might also help.

edit: oh I just saw the shot after posting this.

Dont think it hit something since I never bring out.

If I lower the brightness, this shadow not really obvious. Now feel abit better after I close and open the lid few times.

Few days back updated the bios to latest version but no problem until now.

Tried update the graphic driver to latest just now but still same problem.
___

Solved this after shut down for an hour and turn it back on.
