QUOTE(horns @ Dec 17 2013, 12:31 AM)
maybe it's the shortage of parts.

well you can put a matte screen protector on the glossy screen if you want haha!

compared to the MYR8699 option, i think the price is ok. the cpu, gpu, and screen are what i want. i already have ssd's and 32gb ram's ready.

aw18 is really huge and heavy. a 17" looks small beside it. (by the way aw18's screen is 60hz, not 120hz)
*
i've been looking a matte screen protector for my M14x R2 all these while. But no luck couldnt find any leh cry.gif
any idea where can get ?

just get a large piece of matte protector, then DIY the cutting. save your cost and hassle to find pre-cut ones.

doesnt Alienware 14 comes with an anti-glare screen? hmm.gif
*
Where to get a large piece of matte protector bro?

Btw i think he want a matte screen protector just to protect his matte screen

QUOTE(horns @ Jan 11 2014, 04:08 PM)
yes, i guess it's much better to get extended warranty at the point of purchase at Dell Malaysia, because from what i've read, that's the only way to get a complete cover. they only offer part-only and nbd in the warranty extension after that point.

(i believe previously complete cover was offered on top of those options; wonder why it was taken down)
*
yeap last time they did have option to extend complete cover. I guess they removed it because I believe people purchase complete cover only after they broke their laptop.

But I did still extended mine just few days before my warranty ended. At first I was waiting to upgrade to the new 14, but then it was quite disappointing compare to what i expect them to improve.

recently having problem with running out of memory when playing BF4.
Didn't have that with Win8, only happened in Win8.1 sweat.gif
*
same here but i was playing NFS rival and Batman Origin. At first I do thought that all the 8 gigs of ram are fully consumed by those game, but then when check with task manager, still have about 4gb available.
the message pops out is just so annoying mad.gif

QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Feb 5 2014, 09:46 AM)
have you tried setting the virtual memory?
*
i believe virtual memory was the problem causing, but i didnt bother fixing it laugh.gif laugh.gif

QUOTE(Superman7 @ Feb 5 2014, 09:59 AM)
so far I only experience memory leak on BF4. No other games with such problem.
How's NFS rival anyway? worth the price?
*
its not memory leak but as raymond mentioned, something related with the virtual memory. Here the log I digged.
btw my NFS is *ahem* copy, not worth for the price for me, thats why didnt I buy it. I prefer Shift 2 over all the others NFS series. Much much more realistic

QUOTE(Aura @ Feb 5 2014, 04:37 PM)
Jayi's situation is virtual memory problem. Not the same as ur situation. Just need to tweak the settings on that in Windows.

NFS Rivals definitely stay away from it. The FPS is locked to 30 only. That alone is enough to stay away from it. The reason why we buy PC games instead of consoles because of high graphic fidelity.
*
tweak settings blink.gif ?

Based on the attachment below, by default it was set auto for size of virtual memory. but then it was way below the recommended value, so how much value i should actually set ?

QUOTE(chtan @ Feb 5 2014, 05:23 PM)
Don't worry so much about the VM as long as you leave it auto, OS will expand and reduce the VM automatically according to need. Just make sure that you have enough space for it to grow over is needed. Auto is not the best setting of course. This is due to the OS has to monitor the needed usage and calculate accordingly. This can take up some time. If you have enough space, just set it to 2~3GB fixed space should be more than enough.
By the way, your Batman Arkham Origin is it ahem one or original one? Mine don't have this problem at all, my is steam version. If it is ahem version then should be the crack is not perfect yet.
*
the free space u meant is space on the hard disc right? but then isnt the OS itself should increase the size of VM whenever it detect low on VM ?

yeap ahem one as well, no point spending on single player game. but i dont really think crack was the issue. previously on windows 8 there was no such thing.

QUOTE(horns @ Feb 26 2014, 08:29 AM)
Firstly its electronic so there will be definite limited shelf life. Secondly due to implementations of newer technologies (e.g. Change of cpu sockets, compatible chipsets; gpu socket types, etc.), this will limit upgradeability also. Thirdly i dont think you still wanna use it after a few years because the performance of newer models simply are better than old ones.

To me a better indicator is the limit of warranty by manufacturer (i think the max is 5 years for aw)

As for the details of scope of warranty that they can provide, its better to ask sales reps. They should know best.
*
yeap max 5 years warranty. But is that really indicating the limit of lifetime for aw system? I often wondering do they still able to repair or having spare parts for a >3 years old system?
for example m17x r1 / r2 ?

I found something weird, my GTX 260M is set at 1V by default as it supposed to be 0.9V for M15x. No wonder the temps reaching 90+C when gaming. Dropping to 0.9V makes it drop to 75C
*
hmm.gif hmm.gif how do you actually able control the voltage of gpu?

hmm.gif but then i see all the skins are covering touchpad area as well. It would be so weird if leaving the touchpad area uncovered.
