Anyone knows where to get spare fan for the discontinued Alienware M15x laptop? Might I add that the warranty is dead for a few years too. icon_question.gif

The fan just died like yesterday, hardly spinning as no air can be felt at the end of the vents, exactly opposite for the right side, which is constantly spinning at 4k - 4.7k RPM. And by looking at HWiNFO, sometimes the fan for CPU isn't displaying any monitoring data, even if it is, it is only less than 1k RPM. cry.gif

And the overheating is causing they system to auto shutdown once it reaches 100 degrees, even without any major game play, it's pretty much stuck at a reading of 90 degrees. shakehead.gif

Still waiting for Dell to send me a quotation price for the fan, but for the time being, I'm also looking for alternatives. blink.gif

"Reviving" the warranty is gonna cost me RM990 sweat.gif

Thanks biggrin.gif

find on ebay and get it shipped. I would suggest you to replace both the fans also replace thermal compound too after cleaning. This will solve your problem (y)

P.S. you can also check on taobao.com. If you find it thr.. you can get it shipped from china through taobao agents on LYN. Shipping from China is cheap.

Managed to get the fan up and running, after a whole afternoon of tearing apart and putting some WD-40. rclxms.gif

But still ,the fan is making some significant noise, gonna find a trusted seller to order the fan part. sweat.gif

Another thing is how come the difference in prices of the fans on Ebay and Taobao are so huge? shocking.gif

sorry i am not sure about this. you can check the seller's reputation (diamond, crown) crown is superior than diamond; the more diamonds or crowns the more reliable the seller is. i was lucky when i got my stuff there. they were genuine. (from diamond and crown sellers)

I see, thanks for the advice on that matter! Will keep an eye on it! rclxms.gif

Guys, any ideas? I'm totally screwed! cry.gif

Long story short, was cleaning up the vents as usual on my M15x, as it was starting to overheat. So in order to do that there are tons of stuff to remove, so after cleaning it, I'd noticed that non of the screws on the heatsink for the CPU side are able to get back into the holes, then only I'd noticed that the holes are just holes, nothing to hold the screws in anymore. My guess it due to the heat and everything, the holes that were ok before were too hot and dry till they crumbled, so now I can't seem to fit the screws in and the heatsink is having problems contacting, so the heat does not disperse properly.

What do I need to change? The whole motherboard? icon_question.gif

The four holes that seems different from this picture is that this has like metal parts, mine totally black, just holes. cry.gif

oh when you took the cpu heatsink out you didn't notice anything weird? perhaps the screw holders were still attached to the screws?
*
Nope, not there at all. It was loose to start with, so I didn't had any difficulty like the first time removing it.

Sorry to hear that  cry.gif

Just change the motherboard...or we can find the similar retention bracket from others brand for that m15x! Let me know if you find suitable bracket for m15x

Or more crazy idea, we go 3D print for it? Hahahaha!

So far, to hold the screws in, I had to used those white colored tape called "thread seal tape" where people tend to wrap it around pipes for leakage and so.

And that advice came from one of the repairmen from a repair shop. Another shop told me that they could just glue it, which I find too risky and what if I had to remove it the next time right?.

So I guess getting that part itself is quite impossible, unless changing the whole piece. Parts are just kinda hard to find down here at JB. Maybe there's a possibility in KL? hmm.gif

damn my m15x hard disk broke. that laptop getting old
*
So meaning you can boot it up at all? Try replacing it with a new HDD yet? And just run the recovery DVD that Alienware provided.
I'm also thinking of changing mine, since bad sectors / clusters are starting to increase, signs of a failing HDD sad.gif

Question, is it possible to swap like a 1TB HDD in? Compatible? hmm.gif

Maybe he did a mod or something? hmm.gif

I know you can add a extra HDD in by removing the ODD, swapping it with a caddy.
But as for the extra USBs, I have no idea how, 3.0 some more! shocking.gif

I almost forgot this...

To all M15x user out there, if you are trying to install/format/reinstall windows, don't ever ever use the resource CD/DVD to install Alienware Command Center if you had updated your bios. You will lost all your light effect!!!

Download the Alienware Command Center in Dell's website

Many user already kena. Refer notebookreview link below.
