No need regret. Elite's build is much better.

Er.. I will try to check the sound leak of ss.elite later haha! Previously I put the volume at middle only. If put too high my ears will bleed lol!
*
Yeah, Elite's build is definitely much better. 9H is mostly made of plastic so it should be lighter.

I also did the same as u and PC's volume max out. LOL!

Of cos I didn't pump the volume very high when I'm wearing it of cos. U can try by increasing the volume of the Elite and using ur hands to cover both ear cups. That way also can test for sound leaks.

correct ss.9h is mostly plastic smile.gif

i have tested both just now by following your method. you're right, ss.elite has sound leak. ss.9h has none.

As expected but Elite will not have sound leaks if u put the volume less than 70% I think. Obviously 50% won't have any leaks. U can try that. biggrin.gif

Well, another way to find out is to use a recorder to record near the headset when u r wearing it then u will know what's the max limit. Siberia Elite leaks because of the design of the ear cups. Noticed the small slit between the cushion and the actual ear cups? Most likely that's the place the sound is leaking. Can use some insulation tape and seal that slit then I think should be fine. laugh.gif

your previous method is much easier to test sound leaks smile.gif

to me, leaked or not, it's totally fine. this is just for the reference of comparison to those who wish to get a steelseries headset that wanna have no sound leaks. 9h is definitely much better than elite. (correct; it's about the design of ear cups)

HAHAHAHA!!! For me, sound leaks are annoying for other ppl. It doesn't affect me anyways but I still prefer some privacy in what I'm listening to.

Elite is better in terms of build quality but 9H is better in terms of the leaking issue. And of cos, don't like 9H bcos it is plastic only. If not, I will go for 9H also since I'm used to using to 7H.

So, how's the sound quality? Same? biggrin.gif

haha!

as for the sound quality, it's just like siberia v2 vs. 7h. elite has relatively richer bass than 9h.

at first glance (price difference) i suggest alienware. .. and no my answer is not because i am in alienware thread hehe.. for MYR 500.00 difference, i will choose aw17 because:

1. customizable. aw cpu is of mq series (pga socket; means changeable), not hq (bga socket; means soldered). gpu in aw17 can be replaced with higher-power ones (780m). then there are more. all in all, i like to customize my laptop to suit my needs. i think MYR 500.00 extra is cheap for all the convenience to DIY.

2. good warranty. dell in Malaysia offers a relatively better service experience to us customers.

3. build quality.

asus g750jx will be the opposite. however, i don't mean to say asus gaming laptops suck. they have good build quality, too. to be frank, asus laptops perform much better than aw. (because of a number of obvious reasons; based on my experience with asus g55 and aw r4).

now, the actual answers depend on your requirements. it's better for you to state them first.

Hi Horns, thanks a lot for your inputs.

1. How and where do you purchase notebooks GPUs and CPUs? Most of the shops I know are selling desktop ones.

2. Dell has this thing "NBD on-site service". Does this mean Dell's technician will come to customer's house to service?

I am not really into buying a gaming laptop and selling it one or two years after. I like to use it for at least 5 years. But of course, if new GPUs such as 880m or 980m are not too expensive (hopefully < 1K ?), and DIY is easy enough, I like to upgrade as well to extend it's life for 2 more years instead of forking out another 6K++ to get a brand new laptop.

1. cpu is not bought locally; as for gpu, yes you can get it here. i bought my cpu from ebay or taobao.

2. in general, i think so. they will drop by your house and help.

yeah.. asus gaming laptops are for faster upgrade paths: you get a new one; every year or two you sell it with half price so you top up another half to get a new one. technically it's not forking out the amount of the total value.

well.. the custom upgrade path sometimes might be not cheap to be frank. (by the way highend gpu's are more than 1k usually).

That one refers to technician come over to ur house/office and help u troubleshoot ur laptop or replace parts if covered within warranty period.

TYK, there are pro's and con's for both paths. i chose alienware because i need more juice for cpu right from the start. with that it can easily last for years. the gpu is an added bonus to let me play games some times.

laptop graphics card in the domestic market is quite rare. they only can be brought through online auctions or trading. i think you can PM putochip123 about it, or try ask Prince J; i think they do supply those GC.

Thanks for the opinion.

After some thinking, I probably will choose 1 package solution such as G750 as I don't have deft hands and knowledge for DIY laptop upgrades.

True, but there are times where a big step in evolution happens, and it will be the best time to upgrade. Take notebook nVidia GPUs for instance, from 40nm Fermi to 28nm Kepler die shrink, there was huge improvement. Same as now a lot of people is anticipating 20nm Maxwell.

whatever you think is good for you man smile.gif .. i suggest you look deeper about the problems and issues of g750. rog.asus.com/forum/ or notebookreview.com are good places.

the rules of thumb for new electronics purchase apply (lemons do exist among these well-built devices):
1. make sure the seller commit to one-to-one exchange/full refund for an agreed period (normally 7 days);
2. before that date expires, make sure each and every physical components that you will use commonly works out-of-box (dead pixels on screen; ports, headphone jacks, etc.). if anything is wrong, go for one-to-one.

good luck.

by the way, we only have g750JX with 770m currently. the 15.6" g56JR is on the way but i think the gpu in this range ages rather quickly.
