Hello!

Has anyone updated to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 on an Alienware 14?

Did you lose any files in the process?
Did you create a factory backup on AlienRespawn before updating?
Any issues with the process of updating and with Windows 8.1 in general?

Well, for me, it's mainly for daily work. I only bring the essentials such as mouse and cables. The U3 stays at home. I'll be bringing my headset along later when I get it.

I didn't update on an AW14 but I did for my AW17.

1. No, I didn't lose any files since all my data is on another drive.
2. No, factory image SHOULD BE DONE when u receive ur system for the first time and not before updating to Windows 8.1.
3. For me, no issues at all aside from the long installation time.

My advice is backup all ur data to another drive and make a factory image IF u haven't make it yet. Always remember that during the update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, there's a chance/possibility that it might go sour unless u wanna try ur luck like me. LOL!

No problem found after updating to Win 8.1

as for the "desktop battery charge" option that I mentioned earlier, today I found out the actual usage.
My battery level is now at 75% even with the power connected as always.
It does not go lower than 75% and it does not charge to full 100% either.

recently having problem with running out of memory when playing BF4.
Didn't have that with Win8, only happened in Win8.1

I experience the same issue playing Resident Evil 6 as well , running out of memory. One time i continued played much longer than usual and the whole game crashed.

I think this is also a known issue. Have u tried updating the game to the latest version?

I don't know why, but my games are stuttering whilst just at default settings/optimized settings via NVIDIA Experience. I'm afraid the Alienware 14 has been using the Intel Graphics card instead of the NVIDIA card whilst gaming. How do I force the system to always use NVIDIA?

There's a setting under NVIDIA control panel for this.

Wow i didnt know there was a memleak bug for bf4. Games after games, no issue. (Played it last night. Damn addicted to it, although i get killed more than i kill people lol!)

not only memory leak, there's a lot of crashes as well..
currently having crashes in one of the campaign..

Yeah, I had a crash in one of the campaigns and I need to replay it but darn lazy to do so.

I can't even replay the same scene that I got kicked out. Always got kicked out at the same scene

The crashes are random. Most likely u need to restart the level.

teruknya.. i don't experience such things :/ just now layan bf4 again (multiplayer maps only). everything is still fine. (still, i feel like i am a feeder in the games lol! bo skill!)

Finally I had restart the mission..
Now I have finally completed the entire campaign..

Thanks for the feedback guys! Guess I won't be installing 8.1 for the time being.
