once awhile..local oil companies will get products from oversea if their refineries unable to meet the local demand but not always.. if a local O&G company get their product direct for singapore...for sure it will subject for import tax , not to mention paying more (exchange rate), extra cost such as off coast oil tankers to send the shipment, storage area and etc yet they sell it at Euro2M price? u think bhp is doing national service or charity ? tongue.gif O&G companies can sell higher grade products but our gomen not going to pay extra subsidy for it and the retail prices still the same..

From what I learn by my previous working experience in O&G, all of our petrols are purchased from other countries.. We do not not use our own petroleum as car petrols...

Reason? It's because our petroleum is of higher grade and quality, so it is suitable for those usage such as jet fuel and etc... Car petrol do not need such high grade, so it will be a waste to use it as car petrols...

u got it half right....last time our crude oil can fetch higher price because due to low sulfur content and we import cheapo crude oils from somewhere else... but now not the case anymore...

how many of u out there know that the world's most cleanest fossil fuel with almost zero sulfur was born in malaysia.... smile.gif

Hi all, just sharing my 2 cents on issue of patrols in Malaysia, though I won't proclaim I'm coming from o&g industry smile.gif

1. Retail fuels are still imported, as has been the case since many years ago. Most are the sour crude from middle east/African countries. The oil extracted off Kerteh/Miri are the sweet crude type and fetches a premium over sour crude. Though sour crude can be processed to Tier4 levels but the process is expensive.

2. There are 3 refiners in Malaysia - Petronas, Shell and Petron (inherited from Mobil). The base stock is imported, no doubt. They also help other brands such as caltex and bhp to blend with their own preferred additives. Ultimately, the fuel leaving these refineries are same and only the additives are different.

3. Some people say certain fuel better, others terrible, but most are attributed to the placebo effect aided by marketing gimmicks. However, I have to say that the cleanliness of the tanks and age of the fuel are the 2 most important attributes - probably more important than additive packages and other gimmicks!

4. BHP boldly claims that their retail petrols are EU3 compliant but I suspect that this claim is based on certain batches of "best case" fuel and not the "everyday" fuel that you and I pump. The point is how consistent is this EU3 quality - is every litre of petrol that consumer pumps into his/her tank is EU3 standard?

5. BHP's diesel is still EU2 like any others

6. By now, most of the diesel in Pen Malaysia are B5 biodiesel blend, and most are _guaranteed_ EU2 quality fuel. Sabah & Sarawak have yet to implement this. Thailand and recently, Indonesia are all B5 now. Rumour in the mill is that there is intention to increase our B5 to B10 to ease our palm old inventory but I doubt many diesel vehicles can accept this with most at B7 level.

Hi all,

I was previously with Caltex. Basically, all the base product (Petrol & Diesel) in Malaysia was purchased from Singapore. Shell, BHP and Petron do purchased a lot of base product from Caltex and there only different is only on the additive injected. For Caltex Petrol additive, it is indeed more corrosive than others as I am having additive from different brands in my previous workplace. I believed it can better clean engine.

Proton satria 96 1.3 cc using techron 95 no jerking and powerful. use other fuel jerking and less power.

Proton preve using techron 95 higher FC and not feel any power improvement. but using shell 95 better FC and similar power also..

I also wondering why...
