Only benefit I can see here is
i) you don't have to carry a sh*t load of cash along if you want to get some expensive stuff
ii) it is a great alternative for other online transaction methods (western union, money order...etc)
I do agree about the not owing part though, being able to pay by installments(even better if interest free), even if you have the cash at hand, is a choice I will take everytime, cause we never know when we might need that money suddenly.
The way I look at credit card is, it is a great tool during emergencies.

would be for ordering stuff from stewmac, topping up paypal so its easier to get stuff off ebay etc.
