Hi guys,

Please recommend me a laptop.

1. Any
2. Budget - less than RM2.5k
3. Usage - Graphical software such as autoCad, photoshop
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14"-15"
5. Preferred that include international warranty

Thank you.
*
You need to get as good a CPU you could get, and at least medium level GPU if you do 3D CAD.

Asus
PRO45VJ-V0047X, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT635M@RM2399[2.4kg], 4GB, 500GB, W7P
K46CB-WX060H, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 750GB, W8, 4-cell, OD

Dell (extend warranty to 3 years ~ RM300, turn the warranty to International)
Inspiron 14R, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM1849 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Linux, 6 cell; W8@RM2049
Vostro 5470, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2249, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

Asus seems like more pricey for that spec..
Dell and Acer seems like not bad.. Lenovo too..
Btw, for Acer I dont really need touch screen.  laugh.gif

Inspiron 15R, i5-4200U + AMD HD8670M @RM1999[2.32kg], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), Linux, 65WHr; W8SL@RM2199
Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Linux, 65WHr; W8SL@RM2699

And it is quite hard to decide to go for i5 or i7..  sweat.gif
Sigh, go for performance or cheaper price..  rolleyes.gif

RM 500 difference..  sweat.gif
*
Unfortunately that Acer V5 only come with touchscreen spec tongue.gif (and touchscreen normally cost RM200 more than non-touch screen spec tongue.gif )

The i7-xxxxU is only duo core though. The RM500 difference is also due to the better GPU.

Depends on what games you play, and see if you could enjoy it with GT740M / HD8670M, or do you really need GT750M / HD8850M? smile.gif
If you go with Dell, preferably put aside a bit of the budget to extend warranty to 3 years, better peace of mind smile.gif

Hey guys, I have seen a lot of recommendation of Acer V5 and Lenovo Z510 coming out together. I have a question, which display between the two of them is better? Who has a better screen quality?
*
Which V5? You have to be more specific, there are quite a few different spec.
Anyway, to judge screen display, one of the best tools is actually our own eyes smile.gif Go out and look at the display unit (make sure it is the exact V5 that you are looking for), and see which one you like best smile.gif

Ya, I just notice that i7-xxxxQM is quad core.. lolx But way way more expensive..

I see, I have no idea which Graphic cards is better though.
I usually will compressed some movie codec from others to rmvb and it usually took very long time to convert it (my old PC), so does graphic cards come in useful for this as well?

Actually what is the warranty for? Extend to 3 year RM 300?
*
Obviously the GPU carry higher number from the same brand is better smile.gif

The tools you use to convert movie codec to RMVB, do they support Nvidia CUDA or OpenCL (AMD)? If yes, then it help quite a lot. If it only support Nvidia CUDA, then you should only buy laptop spec with Nvidia GPU. If it support OpenCL, then either Nvidia or AMD GPU will be fine.

I meant if you buy Dell laptop, the standard warranty is only 1 year on site (if your laptop has hardware problem, give Dell a call, they will send technician to your place (home / office / school ... ) and fix it within couple of days, don't need to send to SC). It's a good idea to spend ~ RM300 to extend that warranty to 3 years.

This is not a sales thread (so we don't care how you pay biggrin.gif icon_rolleyes.gif ). Make sure you negotiate with re-sellers to get a good deal / discount from RSP.
BF3 / 4 could be rather GPU demanding. Get as good a GPU as you can afford.

Thanks for the recommendation bro. I checked a bit and found that according to http://shopap.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/ide...s-series/s410p/ , the S410p is 2.3kg? But some sites like lelong are listing it as 1.8kg? That's quite a huge difference, is it the same model? Also, we can ask the seller to swap the SSD for us? What about warranty extension, is it possible for Lenovo?
*
The info on Lenovo site is correct.
The older S400 / S400T don't have a ODD, and weight 1.8kg. S410P incorporate an ODD, and should weight around 2.3kg.
I think TJ sifu may have get the weight from the old S400T when he updated the price list.

As long as the re-seller is willing to do it for you smile.gif Just make sure they do it properly without tearing any of the "warranty void if broken" sticker.

Yes, you can buy warranty extension from Lenovo. Ask the re-sellers to assist you.

Hello guys
I have done some research about budget gaming laptop, and i am interested with y series lenovo, cheaper + high spec. but that slightly above my budget. my budget around 2.5k only.

any other suggestion ?
1. most preferred lenovo, asus also can.
2. 2.5k-2.6k
3. gaming-dota2, pes, fifa, cs, nfw. vegas, photoshop a bit, aftereffect abit
4. 14-15 also can
got a question, is it good to use touch screen laptop for gaming?

thanks smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
*
Best gaming input is still mouse + keyboard combo.
Since your budget is already tight, why spend money (~ RM200) on touch screen.
You should get as good a GPU as you can get.

Current Y series is spec with GT750M. With your budget, the Asus or Lenovo you can get is at best spec with GT740M, unless you can still find this (which I doubt)
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

If you are happy with GT740M, then:
Asus
K46CB-WX060H, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 750GB, W8, 4-cell, OD
S551LB-CJ120H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2699[2.4kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8, 3-cell

Lenovo
Z400 touch, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M + (1366x768, touch)@RM2199, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty
Z510, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2399[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs

If you want GT750M, consider this:
Dell
Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

2. Budget - 2k - 2.5k
3. Usage - run computer simulation(fluid dynamics) & autocad
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14inch

Thank you:)

You need both good CPU and at least medium level mobile GPU. Software that do fluid dynamic simulation should be able to take advantage of CUDA or OpenCL (you should check your software to confirm) for the simulation, so discrete GPU definitely help.

Yes, there are laptops that come FreeDOS or pre-installed with Linux. Of course you can install your own OS over it, just need to get the drivers (eg. from Dell website).
Unfortunately, other than Dell, most FreeDOS spec laptop from other brands are rather low spec variant.

Hi, i7-3630QM & i7-4500U, which one will be better? refer to http://ark.intel.com/, 4500u is more power consumption and 4th gen processor and they have different cache and oc ghz. Which one is good for performance or they are the same?
Thank you.

i7-3630QM - Ivy Bridge (3rd gen). Quad core. Obviously pack more CPU processing power. Drain battery fast.
i7-4500U - Haswell (4th gen). Duo core. Give much better battery runtime.

I think there is a cheaper spec with i5 CPU, which may fall within your budget. That is pretty much the cheapest model with FHD you can get.

The GPU is only GT740M, pushing FHD screen, I think for Dota 2, at medium level, you may see some lag in big battle hmm.gif
