Hi All.
I plan buy light weight basic laptop for my secretary.Any laptop with at least i3 or i5 can be recommend?
Mostly one time will open software like office, skype,UBS system.Budget below RM 1200 if has.(pay cash)
Any seller also can pm me..i need buy it before friday.

This is not a sale thread smile.gif
You can look for re-sellers at LYN garage sales section.

Your secretary probably can make do with a Haswell Celeron / Pentium, don't need i3 or i5 smile.gif If she open all the software at the same time, need more RAM (4 - 8GB). Upgrade RAM aftermarket (4GB stick ~ RM100).

The tricky part is the "light weight" - it actually cost money to go light weight smile.gif or are you looking at 11"?

1. Any brand
2. less than RM3000 (the cheaper the better)
3. Illustrator,photoshop,3d works.
4. 14"/15.6" , backlit keyboard , touch function, GT 7xx series GPU, upgradeable RAM.

I have been browsing around the garage sales for few days now. Perhaps i missed out many infos but the closest to my requirements is actually Acer V5-573PG-74504G50 BUT i do not like the red colour. Prefer white/silver colour. Portability is important as this laptop will be used on business trips for staffs.

Can any masters here help me out with recommendation?

Thank you in advance smile.gif

don't see why you or your colleague need touchscreen on conventional form factor hmm.gif wobbly screen result from prolong poking could become very annoying.
unless you are looking for FHD (1920x1080) screen, there is no compelling factor to go 15" (the V5 that you mentioned is spec with HD (1366x768) screen). And 15" is normally > 2kg.

If you like that particular Acer V5 (except the colour), then consider this. Good screen.

Yeah but my current laptop have bad heating problem, it's starts to lag as the processor use more power and bring up the heat. So I'm looking for one with good cooling system as well.
*
processing FHD video is not a demanding job on CPU or GPU.
Your existing laptop probably is clogged with dust (fan, air inlet / outlet, ...). Clean it up and re-apply thermal paste and it should be fine.

And with your budget, don't expect "good cooling system". If heat is a concern, just avoid buying thin laptop.

QUOTE(Silvershen @ Nov 12 2013, 10:32 PM)
Preffered Brand : Any brand (But based on research Sony or Samsung)

Budget : 2k - 3.5k

Usage : Main -> Programming/Software Development, Sec -> Drawing/Graphic/Doodling, Oth -> Web surfing, Watching Video, Music, Casual Gaming

Preffered laptop screen size : 11 - 14 inches
Not in a hurry to buy a laptop, but I just wan 2 get people's opinion and recommendation based on my needs and requirements.  I would prefer to get a hybrid laptop/tablet device,  like those ultrabooks and convertible esp. those that has attachable/detachable keyboard.

Main purpose is for programming, so looking Intel i series processor but not sure wat screen size is optimal.  For the tablet part I can use for some drawing/doodling so I will need a built in stylus, so far only Sony and Samsung has devices that provide stylus.  Btw, do u think a convertible is useful or should I get a tablet like Microsoft Surface or Sony Vaio Tap 11???
*
More brands are launching tablets that come with stylus. If you can wait, wait.
1. You want tablets that run W8.1, not W8.1RT. Surface (or any tablets) with W8.1RT is probably not suitable for you (unless your software development tools can run in W8.1RT, which I doubt). You need to look for Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2 (probably in Malaysia in 2014).

2. Depends on what type of software development you do, you have to consider if you can survive with Intel Atom Bay Trail, or need to move up to Intel i3/i5 (all running full W8.1). New tablets with Atom Bay Trail are also typically spec with 2GB RAM (since they are running 32-bit W8.1), user need to taper down on multi-tasking a bit.

3. Stick with 11", anything bigger is too heavy / unwieldy to hold as a tablet form factor (personal opinion).

Current, within your budget, and tick all the boxes:
MS
Surface Pro, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1920x1080;touch) + 64GB SSD@RM2749[680g], 4GB, W8P
Surface Pro, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1920x1080;touch) + 128GB SSD@RM3049[680g], 4GB, W8P
Samsung
ATIV Smart Pro, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080; touch)@RM3699[884g w/o keyboard], 4GB, stylus, W8; color: black

I suggest you wait for Haswell refresh for the models above (better battery run time).
Also look out for Dell Venue Pro 11 (should be in Malaysia in 2014).

Budget lower is better just don't like lag or delay when using ps ,illustration and painter.dota2
Not over 6k? Better below 2k if possible
*
A lot of so called "lag" or "delay" in Photoshop, Illustrator, (for amateur usage) is not due to CPU (i5 ULT is enough) or GPU (medium level discrete GPU is enough), it is due to the slow HDD (Adobe use scratch disc, especially when system is low in RAM).
To address this, you need SSD. 128G ~ RM300, 256G ~ RM600. Replace the HDD with SSD, and you will notice very significant increase in responsiveness.

For your budget of RM2k:
K46CB-WX060H, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 750GB, W8, 4-cell, OD

Price is RSP, negotiable.
Increase the RAM (4GB stick ~ RM100, 8GB ~ RM200), put in the SSD, and you should have a satisfying experience.

What "on9" games she play? Guild War 2 is online game, Facebook games are online games, but require vastly different GPU power. Be more specific.

She need discrete GPU.
Models spec with GT720M is within her budget, but could be a bit under-powered for certain 3D games.
Can look for models spec with GT740M and try to negotiate for good deals.

Thanks for the reply.  U can suggest any brand u wan, I tot very few manufacturers release laptop hybrid/tablet with stylus.

Have a few questions.

1) For my usage, ultrabook or tablet better?

2) Can suggest any Haswell device (It's Intel 4th gen core rite?) with Windows 8 in the Malaysian market.

3) If I get Windows 8/8.1 can upgrade to Windows 8/8.1 pro rite?

4) Best screen size??

Hopefully more people can recommend.
*
1. if you want to doodle with stylus, tablet / hybrid form factor is better. Traditional form factor ultrabook is not really ergonomic for stylus usage.

2. As I mentioned, wait. Currently, the models we know are Surface Pro 2, Dell Venue 11 Pro, and they are not in Malaysia yet. We are seeing more launches by brands, currently mostly concentrate on Atom Bay Trail segment, but more Haswell spec tablet is on the pipeline. Whether / When they will come to Malaysia is another story smile.gif

3. You pay, you can.

4. As I said, if you go with tablet / hybrid, stay with 11" max.

is it so difficult to follow the suggested format? doh.gif
Asus.
< RM2k,
"don't like lag or delay when using ps ,illustration and painter.dota2",
15"

The best you can get:
A550CC-XX307/308/309, i3-3217U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1699[2.3kg], 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS; colors: red/white/grey
A550CC-XX530H, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT720M@RM2099[2kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8; colors: black/red/white

iinm, there is no mSATA port in A550CC (but please confirm with re-sellers). If you want SSD, just swap out the HDD.

if you customise the illegear RS15/17 up to the standard spec in the GT70 (RAM, HDD, OS, Bigfoot), the RS15/17 is going to be > RM8k, but with longer warranty and slightly better but smaller screen.
So, on price criteria, the GT70 is probably a better deal.

on RS15:
May want to consider the matte screen instead of glossy (but that is purely personal taste).
Should opt for screen calibration (unless you have own calibration tool) to fully enjoy the screen.
You can opt for some paint colour at no extra cost.

Hi guys,

Need some advice on my future laptop.

1. Preferred Brand - Any
2. Budget - Preferably RM3k or less (can be slightly more if needed)
3. Usage - MS Office/net surfing/YouTube/FB/movie watching (no games)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14" or lesser

p.s. I prefer a laptop running full SSD if possible with good battery life and lightweight.

Thanks for maintaining this thread!

Samsung
