Hello. Need a recommendation here. Budget around 1500.. Will use my laptop generally for typing only.

Meaning when typing, feel nice, that's all.. smile.gif
*
that's why I said it is subjective, since we have different fingers (bigger / smaller), and amount of force (stronger / softer) we exert while typing, the type of tactile feedback we like ...
It is important for you to try typing on display units to determine which one you like best.

Like me, I was spoilt on those old Thinkpad T keyboard, so my opinion on laptop keyboards could be rather harsh laugh.gif

Workstation is a very demanding niche market segment. Asus don't have foothold in it smile.gif

Lenovo - Thinkpad W540 (not sure if this is in Malaysia yet. You can try the slightly older model W530).
Sorry, don't have the pricelist on this, you need to ask Lenovo re-sellers (and a lot of them don't bother, so prepare to do some leg work).

QUOTE(ogiveyakuza @ Nov 9 2013, 08:14 PM)
Guys, help,

My wife need a new laptop which is ala ultrabook which is light n thin..good one..

1. Between asus, dell n acer
2. Budget 2-3k
3. For her phd, n she is a geologist, required good performance laptop
4. 13'' to 15'' size, and less than 2kg weight

Thnx
*
Geologist need to do 3D modelling. Discrete GPU will help.
13" ultrabook normally only spec with Intel HD4000 if Ivy Bridge or Intel HD4400 if Haswell, may not be powerful enough for her usage.
15" is typically heavier than 2kg.

Acer
V5-473PG-54204G50, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M +(1366x768;touch)@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB,W8 *no OD

Asus
K46CB-WX060H, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[2kg], 2GB, 750GB, W8, 4-cell, OD

Dell
Vostro 5470, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2249, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
Use remaining of budget to increase RAM (4G stick ~ RM100), extend warranty (Dell, to 3 years ~ RM300), buy SSD (128G ~ RM300, 256G ~ RM600) to replace the HDD (keep as external storage).

Can also consider these:
14"
MSI
GE40-2OC, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GTX760M + (1600x900; anti-glare)@RM3499[1.8kg], 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8
13"
Sony
Vaio SVS13135CV, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT640M LE@RM3199[1.72kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8
Apple
MacBookAir 13", i5-4250U + Intel HD5000 + 128GB SSD + (1440x900)@RM3299[1.35kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, Mac OSX (the HD5000 is ~ GT720M level, and if the software she use is in Win OS, need to do VM or use Bootcamp).

If you could increase budget to ~ RM4k, these will be ideal powerful and light machine:
www.illegear.com
Illegear RE-13 Pro, i5-4200M + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080 IPS)@RM3999[2kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster Cinema], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), Backlit Keyboard, FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ]
Illegear RU-14 Pro, i7-4750HQ + Intel Iris Pro 5200 + (1920x1080 IPS)@RM3999[1.9kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS

since you are a pro in printing, I think colour range and colour accuracy on screen is very important to you.

Opt for the 95% NTSC gamut screen, calibrated. That is probably the best screen for a professional dealing with colour hmm.gif
Check with Prince J right here at LYN.

If you are a Pro in colour, the screen in Y510P and GE60 is really bad. Both the V7 and 15 7000 (I'm quite sure about this even though Dell does not specifically state it is IPS) are spec with IPS, but the colour in V7 screen panel is slightly better in my opinion.

MSI GP60

GT740M could be a bit under-powered trying to push the pixels in FHD screen (really depends on the games you play).
And if you down-scale it to lower resolution, things just don't look as good if not in screen native resolution.
