More like buying any notebook also a gamble haha laugh.gif
That's why have to be thorough when you first purchase the notebook. Most shops/brands offer a 1-to-1 exchange within 7 days, so do make good use of it laugh.gif

Not exactly very powerful CPUs (you can't have the best of everything laugh.gif), but maybe can consider these:
14"
Asus
BU400VC-C3086G, i5-3337U + Nvidia NVS5200 Optimus + 128GB SSD + 500GB HDD@RM3599[1.64kg], 4GB, W8P

Dell
XPS 14, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT630M + 32GB mSATA+ 500GB(5400rpm) HDD + (1600x900)@RM3849[2.1kg], 4GB, backlit, spill resistant keyboard, W8

HP
Envy (Spectre) 14-3111TU, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1600x900 Radiance) + 128GB SSD@RM3999[1.8kg], 4GB

Samsung
NP700Z3C, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M + (1600x900)@RM3599[2.07kg], 6GB, 1TB, W7HP

Sony
SVF14A15SGB, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT735M + (1600x900; touch)@RM3299, 4GB, 750GB, W8SL; colors: black/silver
SVF14A16SGS, i7-3537U + Nvidia GT735M + (1600x900; touch)@RM3999, 4GB, 750GB, W8SL; colors: black/silver

Toshiba
Satellite P840t-1007X, i7-3517U + Nvidia GT630M + (1366x768;touch)@RM3999[harman/kardon], 4GB, 750GB, W8; backlit keyboard; 3 years local warranty
Satellite P840t-1010X, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT630M + (1366x768;touch)@RM3499[harman/kardon], 4GB, 750GB, W8; backlit keyboard; 3 years local warranty

*certain models don't have info on the weights and might be >2kg

My vote still goes to the MSI GE40, its the best in terms of price/performance/portability laugh.gif
*
What do you think about the Portege series? I was talking to my friend and he asked me to consider that as well.

Thanks.

according to the illegear topic, it seems like you are unhappy with your illegear laptop. anyway, dont go for MSI GE-40, the thinness is trapping the heat and likely to damage the internal components. the Y510P is good enough, especially SLI version ones. or top up a little for this :

MSI GE60-2OE, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4299,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, backlit keyboard

after negotiate will be around RM4100. try your best to negotiate hard with sellers. icon_rolleyes.gif

1. same stuff. both screen resolution are 1366x768.
2. 6 cells have longer battery life, and can hold more charges but depends on the size of the cell too.

yeah, with all the hoo hah, cos of this speaker problem.. sometimes i can say i stomach the problem, but u know, when i hear the static noise, same like ur radio lost signal sound, even at normal listening level, i felt very frustrated.. this msi ge60 looks good.. any other brand like asus or acer can offer such specs at such price?

y510p looks good also, cheaper and powerful. Is y510p using haswell proc? or still old one?

ASUS have the G55 but the specs arent pretty enough. 3rd gen i7 and GTX660M.

the Y510P uses haswell processor. smile.gif

Asus Taichi might be a bit overkilled with its dual screens haha, unless if mutt does alot of presentations to clients hmm.gif
Anyway, apart from the ones XeactorZ recommended, can consider these as well:
10"
Microsoft Surface Pro, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1920x1080;touch) + 64GB SSD@RM2749[680g], 4GB, W8P
Surface Pro, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1920x1080;touch) + 128GB SSD@RM3049[680g], 4GB, W8P

11.6/12.5"
Lenovo
Yoga 11s, i3-3229Y + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1366x768, IPS touch)@RM2599, 4GB, W8, 2 years; colors: grey/orange
Yoga 11s, i5-3339Y + Intel HD4000 + 256GB SSD + (1366x768; IPS touch)@RM3299, 8GB, W8, 2 years; colors: grey/orange

Samsung
ATIV Smart Pro, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080; touch)@RM3699[884g w/o keyboard], 4GB, stylus, W8; color: black

Sony
Vaio SVD11215CVB, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1920x1080; touch) + 128GB SSD@RM3699[1.31kg], 4GB, W8, stylus

Toshiba
Satellite U920t-1004, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + (1366x768;touch) + 128GB SSD@RM3999, 4GB, W8, 3 years warranty (1st year onsite)

*prices in RRP, negotiable

Although which one to choose from really depends on your personal preferences. But If its up to me, I'd opt for the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro or the Toshiba U920t, the reasons being they are "true" convertibles to tablets (the screen can be detached to become a tablet- which is way lighter). The others, although convertable to tablets, they are still attached to the base of the device, and thus very heavy, especially when you are holding the "tablet" up nod.gif

The Microsoft Surface Pro is a pretty good choice as well since its small and very light. But personally I think as a blogger, you will type a lot, and a flat keyboard and a small screen is not that feasible and productive icon_rolleyes.gif

what about the new vaio duo?

i like the new vaio duo. its astonishingly beautiful but the convertible hinge looks pretty cheap and may break at anytime. blink.gif

the sales associate says that to convert, pull or push the top center of the screen.

Already recommended the Vaio Duo 11 right? laugh.gif
The design is sort of like Asus Eee Pad Slider, although u just need to push the screen up to become "notebook" mode, and pull the screen down to become "tablet" mode. The tablet is still inclusive of the entire base (the keyboard), so its still heavy, especially when you are holding it. The weight (and size) is especially obvious if you are lying down and holding the tablet reading (bloggers probably do that alot) laugh.gif

That's why I think the those with detachable screens are a better pick hmm.gif

I think all notebooks at that price will get hot. Just have to provide proper ventilation and maintenance I suppose nod.gif
And can upgrade to SSD too, that will reduce the heat by a bit icon_rolleyes.gif
